The whole "Mantle/Living Time" belief system is honestly really cool and compelling. I can totally see people developing a similar religio-philosophy along those lines if the current more "archaic" religious institutions begin to fade.

Unfortunately Forerunners were unworthy to take the Mantle of Responsibility. Precursors thus tried to get rid of them and chose other race: humanity. They came in form of Flood for two reasons: 1. To get their revenge on Forerunners 2. To test humans to see if they are worthy. By winning the Himan-Flood War the Mantle is now ours.

Except that Didact didn't actually 100% changed his mind. Yes, he was less merciful towards humans after all his sons were killed then at that speech at the start of the war, but he never abandoned his adamant belief in the Mantle and that the Halo Array is a crime against It. I mean, both are kinds hypocrites, and found loopholes in their own beliefs. Didact found a way to externalize his resentment and to hold his mercy on humans while saying It is still merciful by using the Composer, high arguably is also a Crime against the Mantle, at least when used like that, instead of its initial purpose

@@Ripa-Moramee After being Composed himself in the comics, the Didact is sent to the Domain. Being Composed cleansed the insanity and corruption from the Gravemind and he finally found peace. He helped a bunch of Forerunners and Composed humans, including the Lord of Admirals, get into the Domain which the Warden Eternal had been blocking them from for over a hundred thousand years. The Didact destroyed the Warden Eternal, aside from any iterations left trapped in the physical world. Those would be left cut off the Domain and with their main consciousness destroyed, they would eventually go mad. He made peace with his former enemies and they evicted the Created from the Domain with the Didact and the Lord of Admirals even engaging in some friendly competition as they hunted down the few who managed to avoid eviction. The Forerunners then planned to seal off the Domain for good so that no one could use it like Cortana did. He also had a conversation with Cortana just before her final confrontation with Atriox where the Didact got her to see what she had become and presumably contributed to her decision to sacrifice herself to make things right. At the end of the book, having finally found peace, the Didact is finally reunited with the Librarian in the Domain.

Decided to replay Halo 4 via MCC. I hated this game when it came out, I thought the story was garbage. I don’t know what I was thinking. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and gameplay, although I still have a few issues with parts. Finding and watching this side story in game was fantastic. Glad it was posted in full as I definitely missed a few. Makes me want to give 5 another shot; too bad it’s not coming to MCC.

I enjoyed 5, thought it had a great premise but the story is badly structured. I look at Halo 4 and 5 as Avengers movies, where you would need to have prior knowledge from prior movies to understand the full story. In halo 4/5s case, you would need to watch a couple movies and anime as well as to read a few books.

The Librarian and The Ur Didact weren't established characters in the halo games prior to halo 4 with the exception of halo 3 but that was a run too fast and you'll miss it kind of thing. Halo 4&5 only added to mystery of the forerunners. Besides we always knew how the forerunners died from the original Trilogy, these terminals are more of a visual representation of those events. There are more questions than ever about the forerunners, the precursors, and ancient humanity since 343 expanded the lore

12:08 in the books this actually happened on the greater arc just before the flood attacked it. The second to last battle of the war. It seemed a bit of a lost cause by then, there weren't really enough forerunners left to be reasonably expected to defeat the flood, weren't enough of any species left powerful enough to defeat the flood the war was all but lost. It really was a dire situation at the end. Star roads cutting apart the petals of the greater arc, ships filled with refugees being smashed and blown up by subverted fleets. Only a few thousand humans remained, and only Chakas left to protect them.

I’ve had a while to sit on this and the way I see it the Didact was a good person at one point in his life with a horrendous end. For thousands of years he lead the forerunner military and he is presented as forgiving at first. Then we see that he is an elitist. He will not allow anyone else to take the Mantle even though it’s clear that he is not up to the task. Could have been a team effort if both sides came to talk but that’s another story. I know politics were involved. Not only is he insane to keep trying the same things with the Prometheans but he is unable to understand why the humans did what they did let alone respect it. He has been in charge for too long and it shows. The harshest lesson is that we all expire one day. His response was to dumb the humans down and keep them there despite having the reason why they cleansed the planets. Then he genocides the humans for an army that will fail like the rest. He gets put in an orb and when he comes out he is a stone cold psychopath. Who hasn’t learned a darn thing. The lesson he could not get was that if you aren’t capable of doing your job someone will step up to the plate with most likely a different approach. The last thing on their minds will be the rules.

Well its not that simple. Even without Kabr abandoning him to a floodburn to be driven mad by the primordial and the logic plague he was still clearly very resentful of humanity due to the war with them. Even after finding out the truth about the humanitys reasons for attacking, he still blamed humanity for it. So the logic plague merely made worse what was already there. Only way for didact to stans with mankind would be for him to be able to let go of his hubris.

Despite what many people of the community had said about 343's work. Halo 4 has its own kind of beauty that not many could see. If 343 had made this story proper at the time, then perhaps things would've turned differently and the story of halo 5 could've been something more as well. Personally I do miss the Prometheans as an enemy and their weaponry, holds something unique to the table that not many didn't want to understand, but here we are now, and someday I personally hope something like that would come back, but it's just hopeful thinking.
