Halo: CE Ambience - Halo

Here, have some more Halo: Combat Evolved Ambience. This is probably one of the best levels in the series for me, as I'm sure it is for many people. In case you're curious, the huge chasm with the light bridge is my favorite area in the whole mission. The atmosphere is so tangible. Anyway, enjoy a peaceful hour on Alpha Halo.

Still remember the feeling the first time that cutscene hit and you crash land. Everyones dead, you step out into this... the single chord que's in with the ships approaching. It was right there you realize this was bout to be the best game you ever played lmao

I went from N64 to this game and got blown away by the graphics. I remember looking at the blinking stars in the sky haha.

Honestly, played at standard definition on a CRT (or with a decent CRT shader), I think the game still looks beautiful now. Sure the assets weren't made to hold up to high res scrutiny, but at lower res, it paints a beautiful picture. The bump mapping with the flashlight, specular metal effects, detail texture maps .etc is still pretty convincing. Not even PC games had anything close to this (in shaders, audio, and visual design) for another couple of years. The surround sound mix too, it was pretty incredible.

@@InnuendoXP agreed. This game’s art style has withstood the test of time. Something about the colors, lighting, and textures will never stop looking good because the personality just explodes out of every polygon in the game

@@thea-ronator57 Yeah the colour scheme & materials play a big part of it. As far as I know Bungie hasn't said anything about it but something about its visual direction seems to just scream 'Mac' of the late 90s & early 00s. It was being created for the Mac ecosystem and it really shows. The focus on the deep cool colours, the cold toned white & grey stone & brushed steel, deeply saturated & vivid cold colours of grass & water, muted & darker colours of earth, sand & wood. The environments reflect a fair bit of both Starseige Tribes & pulp 70s sci-fi, with regular vistas of a huge and open sky. A feeling of the mystery of frontier, and a world much bigger than you.

Hell yeah man. You should definitely do the rest of the levels. halo 1 ambience is so slept on man, its soooo damn incredible on how it makes you feel immersed in the world. the later halo games lost this groundedness not just in story but also this feeling of just chilling and existing on these maps.

Yeah the later Halos needed to learn the value of quiet time, the negative space of pacing & giving you room to just aimlessly wander around. Half-Life 2 is my next favourite FPS to just exist in for this exact reason.

This is probably one of my favorite places on installation 04 next to the silent cartographer island and one of my favorite missions from CE. The scenery is amazing. I’d live here if the halo ring weren’t a weapon of destruction lol it looks so peaceful

You should included the Flood as well, Halo Installation 04 would be quite something indeed if weren’t for the whole being a Superweapon and a storehouse of Flood specimens.

It's one of my favorite missions as well! Very excited for Infinite's Campaign, as the devs had said multiple times that they are drawing on it for inspiration.

Halo CE will always be the best of all the games to me. The absolute. mystery. of the Forerunners. Their structures. While also being thrown into the unknown, battling aliens and trying to survive. Truly, to me, I genuinely like the graphics, gameplay, and atmosphere it conveyed. Having beaten Halo CE on Legendary and LASO makes me low-key think that this game was designed to be played on those difficulties. The spacing of encounters between enemies combined with the layout of items/weapons/ and vehicles are almost to well placed to have been done coincidentally. Looking back, and currently, I still find the graphics perfect for how this game was (in my mind, in just my opinion)to be viewed in all of lore and gameplay. I personally would love to somehow replay the old campaign or a new modded campaign created with the original Halo CE. graphics and difficulty rankings, including LASO..
