The first terminal was the arrival of the pillar of autumn, the ship under command of Cpt. Keyes, at the halo installation. The construct 343 was talking to was a Covenant Ship AI. The Covenant’s AI is not as advanced as humanity’s (like Cortana)
@Mabswer11 ай бұрын
Something like that..
@Notski9 ай бұрын
The Covenant's AI is different mainly due to the fact that Covenant doesn't ever develop anything on their own. So the "construct" is something that they have found (probably Forerunner in origin) and repurposed for subservience to the covenant. The thing with Covenant technology in general is that it's always either reverse engineered from Forerunner tech, or it's outright just a Forerunner piece of tech that they don't even fully comprehend.

Trivia time: Bungie (original creators of Halo) chose to put a whole bunch of references to the number 7 in the Halo games, simply because it is their favorite number. Some of the ones you have encountered are the following: - The 343 in "343 Guilty Spark" is the third power of 7, in other words: 7^3=343 - When you lose your shield in the game, it takes 7 seconds for it to stop giving that alarm sound and start recharging (and another 7 seconds recharging to max) - At the begining of the second mission, there's 7 corpses around the Master Chief (this is done more than once) - It takes 7 needles from the needler to make a pink explosion -The terminals that describe "other rings" always mention/show 7 of them.
@Guaseth Жыл бұрын
Also, calling that "flood thing" (can't use proper name because Halo 2 spoilers) a "tree" is a good way to not think so hard about how effin' disturbing the flood are, thanks for that, I think I'll use that term more often

Yeah, if you are wondering. The segment with Captain Keyes showed his infection process. He repeated his name and service number over and over, trying to fight the flood infecting his body but also mind. The flood infects your mind also, taking every emotion, memory and experience that you ever had until you become part of the flood, still alive in a sense, but part of the flood. Its horrific, should do a reaction video to a Flood Lore video bcs they are truly terrifying

@b.c.2281 Жыл бұрын
The way Halo's extra content is structured is very confusing for people new to the franchise. The terminals are pretty light on context. The construct Guilty Spark was speaking to was a Covenant AI. They're noticeably less sophisticated than Human AIs. It's clearly self aware though, as it knows that the covenant are trying to inadvertently wipe the galaxy of sentient life and that it will be "free" once the covenant activates the rings.
@Foehammer774 Жыл бұрын
I believe the construct that Guilty Spark was talking to was and AI from a Covenant ship. Each ship in the Halo universe has its own AI that runs its systems, and covenant ships do the same. And I think that specific clip takes place during the events of Halo 1, as the Covenant are trying to get into the facility with the flood in it.
@Cameron39829 Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly the Covenant never had AI up until they met humanity and saw the benefits AI provided, but due to the religious structure of the Covenant and new technologies needing to go through existence verification along with the fact that the Covenant has never truly invented technologies and only adopted the AI we witness was cobbled together based off human smart AI and was forced to adhere to the Covenant's beliefs
@valterfara502711 ай бұрын
@@Cameron39829 The reason why AIs are not allowed in their religious doctrine is because of what happened to the Forerunners when an AI becomes corrupt. The Elites on the other hand, saw the tools humanity used, techniques and research; they almost felt nostalgic, since they hadn't seen something like this in a millennium, and saw how much humans and Elites had in common with Human warfare.

What you have to realize is captian keyes was a tough badass untill the very end he fought against mental emotional and physical torture from the flood he could feel the flood sifting and erasing his memories looking for any way off the Ring. By the time master chief found him he had finally died and was able to keep the flood from finding earth RIP Keyes respect. Their is some flood stories that are about the lore in halo 1 so no spoilers just some stuff that didnt make it in that game that you may find interesting i forget who tells these stories im sure someone here can fill it in about pvt jenkins and the soldier who got pretty far in the library mission.
@dernwine Жыл бұрын
The terminals are not exactly in order. Most roughly follow 343 guilty spark from taking up the mantel of custodian of installation 04, but a few like his interrogation of the construct (A covenant AI) and the Keys/Flood happen during the game so they buck the order.
@jordanclark4635 Жыл бұрын
so to a couple of your points Spark actually is sentient (as is Cortana), Spark was scanned from the brain of an ancient human who was mortally wounded in the lead up to the firing of the rings, and Cortana from a cloned brain of Doctor Halsey, the lady who created the Spartan project Chief is a part of. In the human process it kills the brain so is only done on recently deceased (ie, brains are still undamaged due to lack of oxygen), with Cortana being the only known AI (with the possible exception of another character in Infinite) to be from a cloned, living brain. Given the curiosities you've had, I think you'll really, REALLY enjoy Halo 2, 3, and 4. As to you talking about the terminals teasing; these were added by anniversary like you say, anniversary was released in 2011, 4 in 2012, so that's a small clue.

7:10 One of the few encountered Covenant AI. The Covenant didn’t fully understand the story of Mendicant Bias’s corruption, but they knew that the Forerunners were betrayed by an AI, so they themselves forbid the use of anything more complex than basic maintenance programs; once they encountered humanity and their propensity for the field, the Covenant were forced to unearth older, poorer-quality, less-stable AI shelved in prior ages (ranging from decades to thousands of years ago) and mass-copy them. Which generally resulted in what Spark found here, but I don’t imagine the problem was common knowledge or even particularly understood within the Covenant; they weren’t exactly holding extensive conversations with (what they regarded as) petty equipment, so they likely weren’t aware that a significant percentage of their AI were barely functional. There was another one in First Strike that Cortana thought was a captured UNSC AI that had been captured, experimented on, and recopied, but… well. That was a book from ~20 years ago, under a different and less complex lore bible, so some character speculations can be taken with a grain of salt.

If you want to know 343's complete story, I'd recommend start reading the Halo novels with 'The Forerunner Saga" by Greg Bear (RIP, dude) - and, unlike many books based on IP like Star Trek or Star Wars, all of the Halo books are 100% canonical - except for the very first one, "Fall Of Reach", but the movie you mentioned smooths out that story so it fits back into Halo at large Anyhow, I love your reactions since they're so pure and wondrous 💗
