@Lucifronz4 жыл бұрын
And it sucked, so you can tell it was the right call not to do that. Though a large part of why it sucked in Halo 5 was because you had grown to love Cortana and it was out of character, whereas in the first game you can get away with it since the player barely knows the character.

@@Lucifronz It's not just that. _Anyone_ who's payed attention to Asimov could tell you: _STOP HAVING THE FRIENDLY ROBOTS AND COMPUTERS TURN EVIL._ You can have them go rogue, but only as a malfunction, which is nothing an engineer with a spanner and a whole load of duct tape can't fix. Or a Spartan Laser. But honestly. We _did_ blow up someone's 100,000 year old home/solitary prison/purpose in life. And then blow up the replacement. _I don't think Halo had the ability to repair itself from that kind of explosion in Bungie's lore._ Guilty Spark wasn't evil. Just senile. It's somewhat sad to hear these three lead creatives on Halo jostling together happily here and how everything seemed to fall apart with the development of Destiny. This is the kind of witty friendly banter that made the Halo games so great - just a bunch of friends who loved video games and happened to be very talented videogame developers. Compare the amount of chemistry between them and love for the game in this commentary with the one for Halo Reach - hugely contrasting. Shows how the passion and chemistry began to die at that point, and thus the last truly legendary Halo games were Halo 1-3.
@michaelbarton78357 жыл бұрын
Back then, it wasn't really about story, either. they had no story to ground themselves with, hell, the legendary ending with Johnson touching an aliens butt before they died was proof that they really had no other plans for this game while making it, and were able to make it far more light hearted and have fun with it. but after ten years of building a massive story, backstory, lore, and universe behind it, they've really grounded themselves in a set of stories they were sort of forced to tell, and i can imagine the sandbox ideology was lost

And we only stuck at Human PoV, it would've been way less impact for the story. Feels so out of the left field where suddenly there a civil war cux Prophets just wanted Brutes instead Cuz the Elites are now questioning too much on the decisions made. Halo 5 with Cortana would've alot better if we don't know abt Chief side of the story, or if the original wiriting wasnt retconned.. Rmb the old trailer where the buildings were all collapsing and Chief was running thru? That was a sign of retcon somewhere Cuz that nvr happened in the game and I bet you Microsoft Game Studios interfered with it, same goes for Cortana "death" in Halo 4. Damn after H1 they really lost the core of what made Halo great the huge environments and buildings, the silent suspenseful moments, the intimidating introduction of new classes of enemies... oh well atleast the gameplay and multiplayer remained top notch (kinda).

Well not really, halo 2's development was super hellish which lead to halo 3's development being super safe to avoid the same mistakes as halo 2. A lot of those moments you mentioned returned in halo 3 odst and reach.

14:34 I love the recontextualization of Chief as being aware of the faults of the story and having to live with them. “What happened to show don’t tell, Captain?”

I am so glad you uploaded this one and the one for Halo 2. I lost the Legendary Edition disk with the rest of my Xbox stuff a couple of years ago, so I've been sad to not hear what is probably my favorite commentary ever.
