Hello , my name is Tyriq canfield and would like to start some stop motion projects as well but need equipment do you have any recommendations in anything? please and thank you btw youre stop motionsare great keep it up !
@AxiologyStudios8 жыл бұрын
Hello Tyriq! *~General Information~* - The equipment you buy is largely determined by a few key factors. First, what's your budget? Second, what level of proficiency do you want to reach with your stop motions? If you plan to _truly_ dedicate yourself to learning stop motion, then save for professional level equipment. In the long run, buying the best (but affordable) gear now will save you money. If you buy something mediocre, then you'll presumably have to upgrade once the time comes. However, if you have high grade equipment, you'll have room to grow and expand your skills over time. *Important:* Having the most expensive gear will not help your stop motions. In fact, it may limit you. I use a Canon EOS Rebel T3i camera. The reason for this is because it was the camera I used for photography many years ago. Even so, understanding the device takes time. For example, what does ISO do? What effects can I make from changing my aperture size? How do I orient my image aspect ratio? What are RAW images? Of course, I know all of this information now, but it took months and months to learn through trial and error. *The actual equipment:* *A.)* A capture device (i.e. a camera). a.) As I had mentioned previously, I use a Canon EOS Rebel T3i. Please realize that these cameras are quite expensive. You could possibly find a used camera or a less advanced one for a fairly decent price. *B.)* Some program to edit your stop motion into a sequence of images. b.) None of my stop motions are edited other than setting each image to 0.07 seconds (approximately equating to 14 FPS). For this reason, I see no requirement in buying any software, hence, I use Windows Live Movie Maker. If you want to edit your images, then search the Internet for programs that seem fitting for you. *C.)* A sturdy table and tape! c.) All too often I see stop motions were the area that the figures are at isn't secured, or the camera is unstable and changes position each image. How do you fix these problems...? Yep, that's right. Make your stop motion on a sturdy table / counter top, and always tape down the area that your characters will be on. *D.)* Lamp(s). d.) Then the stop motion animator said... ""Let there be light!!!!". Well, maybe that's just me that says that every time I turn a lamp on... Regardless, lighting is extremely important to the "atmosphere" of a stop motion! Here are the reasons why: 1.) Have you ever watched a stop motion and there seemed to be a "light flicker"? As in, an occasional image would be darker or lighter, and create a small flash? Well, there's a few reasons this happens. The main reason is probably due to the stop motion animator's shadow or reflection effecting the area where he/she is making the stop motion. Another plausible cause is that natural light is illuminating the room where he/she is working. Natural light is bad because it frequently changes (such as a cloud covering the sun). To help reduce this "light flicker", place a strong lamp over your stop motion area (the place you're taking pictures of). Keep your lamp stable and in the same position for every image, as in, don't move it unless you're cutting between scenes. Also, work in a dark room where no natural light gets in, and wear dark clothes so you don't cast a bright reflection onto the figures. That's a ton of words, but I hope this information is helpful for you! If you need any clarification then send me another question! :) -Dawson

Amazing, simply amazing. Im curious as to how you pulled off the blood effects. Dyed Q-tip fluff
@AxiologyStudios7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Edison! To make the blood effects I used a cotton ball and a red marker. I believe the Q-tip fluff is also cotton, so that would work too. As you can likely guess, I took the marker and colored around on the cotton, then took small parts of it for using on the figures. Also, I used the colored marker on the figures themselves... Though, it tends to leave a pink tint if left on for too long, so I made sure to quickly wipe it off when I was finished. Take care! -Dawson

I like the older shoulder pieces better for the honor guard. Nice job on the custom elite, the honor guard is my favorite design. Ever since I've gotten the new mega construx heroes honor guard, I've replaced the head and hands with the black colored head and hands from an elite zealot I have. I wish they made it that way in the first place because lighter skin tones on an honor guard are just very innacurate to the game. I want more figures in the future to see their capabilities.

Can you do one with like Arbiter vs An Army of Elites as Arbiter dashes into to combat with his dual energy swords completely destroying everything in his path it would be sick then at the end he's suddenly joined by other elites and then they dash into combat to reclaim sanghelios but it cuts off right there.
@AxiologyStudios8 жыл бұрын
Hello Rain Kehl, thanks for the suggestion! That sounds like a great idea, but unfortunately I'm too busy to work on stop motions (my college classes are starting in a few days). Furthermore, I have other stop motions that are currently waiting to be finished, so I'd like to complete them before I move on to different ideas. Thanks again, I'll certainly make more stop motions with the Arbiter in the future! -Dawson

Hey Axiology Studios, I've been trying to animate my guys running and I can't seem to get it right,soooooo, then I remembered that you are pretty good with animating run cycles so I was wondering if you can help me out, I'd really appreciate it.
@AxiologyStudios8 жыл бұрын
Greetings Atelier! I noticed you put my advice with the flash effects to great use! First of all, I find there to be no such thing as a run "cycle". In traditional animation, this may be the case, but when I create a stop motion, I generally have a variation between how I make the figure walk with every individual step. That is to say, each step is different depending on the environment. Therefore, unless you have a completely flat surface, there is no perfect cycle. Anyways, that's not vary important, but I thought I'd share the information. Now, on how to actually make a figure walk! :) 1. Try to learn from traditional animation sources. A simple search for "run cycle" or "walk cycle" will presumably give you a plethora of images that you can use for reference. 2. Understand the differences of walking a running. For instance, walking requires small and precise movements, while running uses larger movements. A figure that is truly running would actually have a moment when neither foot is touching the ground. If the character is running, their body should be tilted forward. When a figure walks, the body is tilted only slightly forward. Try to pay attention to these details and it will definitely help with walking and running. Hopefully this was helpful for you! :) -Dawson
@jobordeaux54588 жыл бұрын
Thank you so vary much that helped out,but what i wanted to know it the distance of studs you usually do for each step,and I'm asking that because,well,you've never shown the feet when the object runs.

Thanks Boak! The pieces I use come from all sorts of various Mega Bloks sets that I have bought over the years. I suggest searching Ebay for used sets that people usually sell broken apart with missing pieces. Sometimes you can find a good deal on something here and there. Also, check your stores frequently for sales. Occasionally I'll find a set that is on clearance, especially right now when stores are trying to replace the old Mega Bloks (2015) sets with the latest (2016) sets.
