I mean this rod is perfect for what we u wanna do.. u can straighten your eyes. The ones they sale at all the deer expos where u can buy like 5 for 1 of the Halo's n some the guides are twisted like that. They'll fixm on spot. But you're gonna be surprised how great this rod feels in your hand! It's a great rod for $70, then out a budget reel like the lew's classic pro makes the perfect budget combo!!!!!!

My favorite, and longest-owned reel, is an Abu Garcia Silvermax spinning reel. They cost $30 around me. I owned one for 4 years before it finally took a dump on me. I have a lake like 3 miles from me and I fish as often as I can, in 2020 I went nearly every day while I waited for a job to call me. It is super smooth, and the smoothness doesn't immediately fade like with some cheap reels. It also handles large fish well. I caught a 7lb catfish on it, along with several large walleye. It wasn't until I started keeping an eye out for the costlier stuff to go on sale that I stopped using this reel. I think you should check it out for sure. I used mono and braid of various sizes without issues, too.

For the money, the Berkeley Lightning Rod is best in class, IMHO. It’s the first rod (in that price class people!) that I could feel the jig tick bottom on slack line (mono!). A little soft for the listed powers, but I’m not giving mine up anytime soon. Paired with a Piscifun Phantom Carbon, the whole rig is ridiculously light. Love it.

Facts about graphite vs aluminium. I've had some graphite reels that don't last one season of fishing. That being said I think it also may depend on what type of water you fish (heavy salad vs wooded vs no cover) and what type of fishing you do. Also I learned the hard way that using the rod more to play the fish while helps more. I like to crank them on in. Not good with a 7lber in the salad. Good review!

I love that CC80 reel. I was very sad when it blew out the back of my truck on the turnpike while it was attached to a Dobyns rod. I looked in the mirror and saw it explode as a truck ran it over. 😢 From that day forward I made sure that when I travel I transport all the rods in rod socks and securely locked in the rod locker of the boat. Being lazy and just tossing the rods in the truck bed definitely cost me over $150 that day.

DEBO... I'd like you review those rods behind your feeshing throne that have seen time on the water. Preferably the rods that are still on the market. Shimano's Sellus priced $50 has a much thinner trigger which might feel better between the fingers. The first 2 guides on the Sellus are double feet wrapped guides. I think you've hinted at a full review of the Sellus for a while now. I'd like to know what lures you would fish on the Sellus and what reel you'd pair with it. I think you've got a Shimano SLX rod too. IMO feeshin friends with time on the water would benefit more from rod review for specific techniques.

Since then I have purchased several more rods, fury and Lew's TPX1, and they have as small or smaller guides as the speed stick. They all seem to get smaller and smaller. The guides on the TPX1 measure about 3 mm. All of these rods are between 3 and 4 mm. This seems to be the trend.

I believe you can pick a rod just looking and feeling the rod. Someone who doesn’t have the experience you have doesn’t yet know what a rod should look like or act like. Knowing this; it is not a bad idea to look at some signature series rods and reels promoted by Pro Anglers. If a new angler buys a combo setup that is recommended by Jimmy Houston for spinnerbait fishing; likely they will not be to far off the mark. Hank Parker, Mike Iaconelli or whoever you like as Pro Angler have lines of rods and reels they promote. Most have a budget line of combos to choose from. Most are less than a $100 dollars too. If you can afford better combo they have them too. New anglers are not going to know the difference until they get some fishing and casting time in anyway.

I honestly think the number 1 over looked budget rods are the Ugly Stik Carbon series of rods. People can't seem to get past the Ugly Stik name and just scoff at them. The carbon series is NOTHING like the Gx2 or Elite series. I have a 6'6" medium/fast Ugly Stik Carbon spinning rod paired with a Daiwa Fuego and I find myself reaching for that over my other spinning combos sometimes. I have a 6' medium/fast St Croix premier rod paired with an older model Daiwa Revros and a 6'6" medium-lite/fast triumph paired with a Daiwa Legalis. Also "and this is my favorite spinning combo" have a 7'3" medium/fast Doomsday 47 rod paired with a Shimano Vanford. If you're curious don't hesitate to pick up an Ugly Stik Carbon. They also have a TON of rods in the Carbon line to cover just about every situation.
