Halo Reach: Long Night of Solace

Noble Team comes up with a daring plan to hit back at the Covenant. They head to a top secret SABRE launch facility and Six and Jorge head into space in the first stage of the plan. They then defend the Anchor 9 space station until the UNSC Savannah's slipspace drive can be mounted to a Pelican. The Frigate, Sabre's and the Pelican head to capture a Covenant Corvette, where they will land the Pelican and slipspace drive inside, fly it to the Super Carrier and create an unstable slipspace rupture to destroy the ship. But the mission comes at a terrible cost to Noble Team...

This was my favorite mission in the entire game. Fighting with the full team again, and feeling invincible with that guitar! But watching the others wreck the covenant on their own made me feel like I was part of a team and not just having NPCs following me. I felt like I was following them, or maybe Carter. I also have to say that I wasn't really a Halo fan, no hate, I just didn't get into it until this game, and I didn't get the story until this mission, and I didn't get the story of Reach until the end. I basically played this game blind to Halo in general. Despite all that had happened, all of the previous missions, I thought that this was when we turned things around and saved the day... but... I've never played a game where the hero to the entire narrative was someone else. I've never seen a planetary siege before. And I've never had a game where the thrill of the game and the building dread and hopeless was separated by next to nothing. I've never played a game where our battle was lost, with nothing but hope that the war could be won by another. Hope. After George died, after talking to Halsey again, hope was all we had. We didn't even have a chance of survival in the end. Okay, I'm done.

the UNSC never quite grasped quite how advanced Covenant cloaking technology was during the war. As well due to the Covenants superior slip space technology, a single ship exiting slip space far from the planet, likely wouldn't be detected, as opposed to UNSC technology which tended to have noticeable entries and exits from slip space due to far less precise nature of their tech, as Cortana put it "no one could have missed the hole we tore in sub space."

​@@MaxwellAerialPhotography In New Mombasa, a Covenant CAS vessel, (standard carrier) managed to slip-by Earth's defenses, WITHOUT cloaking, and they didn't notice until it was spotted above New Mombasa. And replying to Evan, The UNSC simply couldn't notice. Not only we're they trying to figure out how to evacuate the ENTIRE PLANET, but they also had to make sure they didn't discover Earth if Reach fell. They weren't paying attention. And Reach, wasn't one of the most heavily guarded planets in the UNSC, it was protected, but mostly from ground troops. Only 20 ODPs protected Reach. During the Mission Tip of the Spear, in the intro cutscene, Auntie Dot says, "Large Covenant deployments have occured undetected, and we are now under attack, across the Viery Territory, including Orbital Defenses. -As per the Winter Contingency, we are countering on EVERY FRONT-." This shows that the UNSC had a large amount of Marine ground troops, but space combat was somewhat weak in orbit.

Something very similar was designed in the 50s. The X-20 Dynasoar (yeah, I didn't name it that). Now this thing used conventional fuel and was suborbital so no dogfighting... But it launched just like Sabres are shown to. With modern tech, who knows it might be more like this beast

Nonna YoBeesWax I don’t need to I already completed the reach and CE speed runs on PC. It’s difficult, harder then xbox for sure. But the point is that it’s a far cry from being as difficult as something like dark souls. Several guides exist for the tricky bits of any mission. I’d recommend Eli the mostly naked gamer or Vodred. I might be an asshole but in this particular case that doesn’t make me wrong.
