The screaming “I don’t need anyone” is really beautiful. It’s like she’s screaming it to herself over and over to convince herself that she’s not vulnerable and very strong. I do the same thing in my head when I feel like I’m about to break down, I love it so much, it makes me feel like I’m not the only one who’s trying so hard to not need anyone, because people just let you down.

As a young woman suffering from bipolar 1 and BPD... MANIC has spoken all the words for me that I have not yet verbalized myself. Listening to this album has helped me cope with my mental illnesses and in turn help me understand a lot about myself as person. And though we may never meet, you may never read this... Thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul for the this art Halsey. It’s beautiful and poetic and though millions of people will interpret it to fit their own narratives I understand it. I see the true meaning. And what a sigh of relief to know I’m not alone. Thank you for helping me understand myself. Thank you for everything.

Hey, I hate doing this spamming the comments thing but so far, for a poor indie artists just starting out, this has been the best form of promotion for me. My name's Huddie, I make mostly dark electronic pop. I know my voice isn't the greatest, believe me, I've been told in all the most hurtful ways that my music is horrible but I'm still trying. Taking the criticism to heart. The fans who subscribe and leave comments telling me they're listening to me or that they'd like to download my music definitely encourage me to continue. If you could take the time out of your life to check me out that would be great, give me some feedback, I'd love it. If my music just isn't your thing and you absolutely hate it, that's cool just go on about your day but if you kinda like it, check out some of old stuff, see if any of that catches your attention. Btw, "I just need everyone and then some" is an absolutely beautiful line.

Though the whole album gives me the vibe, this song in particular to me feels like such a vivid picture of a manic episode. The "constantly, constantly having a breakthrough. or a breakdown, or a blackout" remind me so much of my late bipolar uncle. He always some had a new "amazing idea" when he was manic, many of which failed and he'd eventually fall back into alcoholism. It was never pretty to watch. The song just so perfectly captures that feeling of feeling so powerful you can take over the world but also gets that vulnerability and tragedy of having a mental illness. Idk it just reminds me a lot of my uncle, which I know isn't a good thing but it's nice to think about him. This album was very aptly named. Thanks for giving it to us, Halsey :)

Thank you for sharing this. I'm sorry your uncle had to deal with that. I also have bipolar disorder and I feel this soo strongly. I dont have an issue with alcoholism but I could definitely imagine going to it to help with some semblance of levelty. I should probably take my mood stabilizers but I dont because they make me feel nothing. I really only take them and more than in supposed to when I'm having a really dysphoric manic episode or a mixed bc i dont want to feel.

Contemporary dance is so under-rated. I love that Halsey incorporates so much of it in the music she does. Not to knock any of the more popular dance styles, but with rheumatoid arthritis, I can't even hope to get close to a lot of current artists' dances. But Halsey's are so free flowing and more about the emotion that it's nice to have something I can try to recreate.

dear Halsey, I just lost my son's father. when i first starting to listen to you, we'd listen to your music together. We weren't together but both big fans. He passed away on July 22nd this year. this song is honest to god such a "nail on the head" song for me right now. I'm in college. I'm worried about the well being of me and my 6-year-old son... you help me to know I'm not alone. You're a beautiful poet. thank you for your contribution to this generation's music. you're going to be classic for future generations.

I love Halsey but I did not connect to this song when it first came out but it's funny how its one of my favorite song now. Sometimes when we revisit music at a different point of our lives it connects to us in a different and profound way. Anyways, in every song Halsey puts out there is always this poetry. I love that we have her in this world and she chose to make music.

The screaming in the back of the chorus is what got me. You can hear the pain and internal suffering in her voice. This woman never ceases to amaze me

the last year was tough for me... id been rejected by my first true love. i was going through manic and depressive episodes, every day we new, a challenge. my physical and mental health was getting worse and worse. but i listened to this song every day, i didn't understand what the lyrics where about but they spoke to me and where somehow about me. im much better now, that phase of my life is pretty much over, hopefully, but now this song grounds me and reminds me of where i came from. thank you ashley :) xx
