i've read some comments about how this shows the Ashley/Halsey parallel but I personally noticed another metaphor: showing contrast between being in a manic state where the world looks much brighter and everyone seems to come to your show and you look your best vs when you feel shit and the world seems dark and you feel that no one is there for you. And even though your state of mind is so different, essentially you're in the same space, singing the same song.

love the parallels of the visuals; i remember when she released her vertical video for without me she said that it was very raw and vulnerable. it was just her, in a white tank top, no makeup on just pouring her heart out- as she said. in this video it demonstrates the two parts of her life- the version of her when its just her, alone and vulnerable, pouring her heart out on a dark stage with no audience, but doesn't care.. showing her "ashley side". then theres the other side, where she is all glammed up, like a true celebrity, on stage performing for dozens of people and putting on a show, showing her "halsey side". in her road to manic video, she said that this is one of the first love songs she ever wrote. so i think its very melodic and beautiful for her choose this song to release after she released her tracklist, where she says its finally safe for her to fall; she finally feels comfortable showing the ashley side of her that she has kept in the dark for the past few years of her stardom. she finally feels comfortable showing the world who she really is.

i love how there's two versions of her, one that all the people see, the happy one with all the glam, and the other one singing in the dark, alone, in ordinary clothes and makeup. the first one's halsey, the second is ashley. and i think that's the reason why the song has two names too. just hear me out. she says "i think it's finally safe for me to fall", which sounds positive, right? that's halsey's title, because she looks happy too. but then we have "beautiful strangers only come along to do me wrong", and that's what ashley, who looks so dark and sad, sings. there's also a connection to clementine that i've noticed, which looks like the most ridiculous thing ever. you'll see that "Finally" is capitalised, while "beautiful stranger" isn't, and that's what it has in common with clementine. clementine is a very special song to ashley, and she did the music video with her brother too. there, she was true ashley, so maybe beautiful stranger is the title that real ashley chose. but i think there could also be another way to look at all of this. halsey talks openly about her being bipolar, so maybe this is representation of her manic episodes (happy halsey) and depressive episodes (dark halsey). and seeing a little bit of what this album looks like and how close to her it is, this could also be the right way to see it. 🌻

This song hit so home for me. I grew up with a lot of issues that I thought would make it impossible to be in a relationship. I felt unlovable. But the person who is now my fiancé let me feel safe. And a lot of the descriptions fit my fiancé too- hips like Jagger and two left feet for sure. And the dichotomy in the video of her feeling free when no one is around vs being appreciated for a fiscade plays into the lyrics so well because someone who truly loves you will love you for both sides. I saw an interview where she said this album is just, her. Just Ashley. And this song really speaks that to me. As much as I love the dramatics of BL and HFK, this is just simple and amazing. It reminds me of the girl singing and playing guitar on her bedroom floor who’s voice and music I fell in love with before she was signed. The pre-chorus section of this song (the dancing in my living room part) is as close to musical magic as is ever accomplished IMHO. You can't capture a feeling like what she's singing about any better than that. The melody, the passion, the subtle cracking in her voice ... it's freaking perfection. The rest is really, really good too. But that part particularly ... DAMN GIRL! This old 80's hipster gives this song two really really big thumbs up. Also, the steel guitar is very key.

It was so special, we were high and the fireplace was on and we were just dancing in the living room getting lost in each other. Cole C. Yeah! I remember she said that for this album she didn’t worry about if people would like it or not, just made what she liked. I’m really looking forward to it. Even if I don’t like them all, I feel like part of me still will because I love to support people who just do them. I tend to love all of her songs though, New Americana didn’t do it for me though, neither did closer. I don’t really connect with her radio hits vs her songs like Hurricane, Gasoline, Is there somewhere, etc.

This song of hers makes me so emotional it’s not just the fact that she is singing about her past relationship with Dom, who I’m a big fan of it’s also because I can relate to it. Although the fact it is about Dom makes me emotional too. What I think this song is about and I think she had said somewhere in an article is about finally meeting the love of your life someone who is going to treat you right and never hurt you but your mind won’t allow you to be with them or trust them so she describes this in words as metaphors. Beautiful meaning the love of her life stranger meaning we can’t meet we don’t know each other. It’s a dynamic that yes we are meant to be together but we haven’t met yet “I hope one day you’d like to meet.” It’s about not being able to allow yourself to love that person even tho you really want to and know it’s finally safe to fall you can’t at this point you are too broken you feel you would sabotage this person if you gave in. “Beautiful strangers only come along to do me wrong and I hold on.” She knows every time she has ever actually fallen for someone it ended in disaster. Her heart wants to fall for this person but she can’t. The imagery in this video shows her at the beginning singing in a dark room and nobody’s listening which to me represents the sorrow and pain and heartbreak of past relationships she’s experienced when the imagery gets bright and she’s in a room of people that’s her imaging what it would be like to fall for this lovely beautiful stranger but once again back to the dark scene her heart won’t let her fall even tho she really really wants to. It goes back and forth but did you notice something? It ends on the dark at it started with the dark. This is a hauntingly sad song with amazing poetry. It’s good because it’s filled with pain and real experiences. Doesn’t help when you are a fan of the person she’s singing about and feel their pain as well as hers. I can relate to Ashley I have felt this way and wrote something similar to this. I can’t describe what it feels like in writing it’s just how she made it seem you know if you know.

I love how this song so beautifully expresses the dichotomy experienced while dating these days. So many strangers out there and every time you meet someone new, you dress up all good and put your best foot forward, but deep down you're all doubtful, hoping if this will finally be it while still dealing with the damage "strangers" from the past have put you through.
