As a maladative daydreamer with an uncontrollable imagination, i relate a LOT to the "i've grown familiar with villains that live in my head", "i can't help this awful energy" and "who is in control?". Like, legit- and when I snap myself out of it its so disturbing because here I am, in a real world, hugging my pillow. Its just so bizarre to me, yknow? They fully recognize how hypocritical they're being, but their stubbornness won't let them change for the better, so instead they're trapped in a cycle of feeling self-righteous, which leads them to commit some kind of atrocity they later come to feel guilty for, which they then excuse because "the ends justify the means". what I picture for this song: there's a young little girl, who is forced to be the top of the school, it refers to the part where Halsey said "they send me away to find them a fortune; a chest filled with diamonds and golds,". Which means if this little girl keeps studying and aim for the top, her parents might get something special? (Tell me what you have in mind.) And, the second verse is about her demons. Her depression: what I think of this young little girl's depression is about her parents who gives no love to this young little girl, and her parents only want money. She stuck to depression and never told anyone about it. In her home, she doesn't talk at all, she's only forced to do things at her home. Her demons control her. Now, the pre-chorus is about her alter ego. In school, she has a big personality: Hate, Arrogance and Anger. All of the three comes to "I'm bigger than my body," the second line is about her real self, which has a big personality too: Sadness, Envy, Ignorance, and a hidden one. Which comes to "I'm colder than this home," (which mean she doesn't care at all.). Now the next line, back to her alter ego, she's a tough one in the school. Apparently she's the bully, she does whatever she wants. The teachers EVEN fear her, her aura is very scary. And this goes to the line "I'm meaner than my demons," and the next line is about her dominating the school, like said, she's the bully and everyone fears her. The bones refers to the school which goes to the line "I'm bigger than this bones." Since I said the little girl is a bully, the other students she bullied killed themselves, now the current ones she's bullying says "Please stop, you're scaring me.". And the little girl is satisfied with the fact that she's hurting someone, which comes to the line "I can't help this awful energy," and her awful energy is about her insanity. Next line is about her demons responding to the kid who's getting bullied by the main character. "God damn, right, you should be scared of me!" And now the last line, which is the billion dollar question. "Who is in control?" Is it the little girl who controls herself to dominate everyone? Or is it her demons? Now the second verse is about the little girl talking to her demons, she knew it was getting annoying, she doesn't give a single fuck about her demons at all. Which this goes to the line "And I couldn't stand the person inside me, so I turned all the mirrors around." Now the bridge where it all comes down, the little girl slowly realizes that her demons are taking over. But she knew it all, she's acquainted to what's going on, she's familiar to what's going on. Because she was being forced by her parents, right? So her demons force her soul to die out and let her demons take over, so that when her soul dies, her body won't die out, her demons gets to take her body and forms themselves into a new soul. Her demons aren't normal. Now that we've come to this conclusion, her hidden personality is unlocked: The Abnormal one. Everything about her is abnormal, no one sees it. Outside, she acts like she's normal, but inside, she's abnormal and insane. And the abnormal and insane refers to her demons. Now she realizes that, the question is finally answered. Her demons controls herself.
