[Verse 1] Are you insane like me? Been in pain like me? Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me? Just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me? Would you use your water bill to dry the stain like me? Are you high enough without the Mary Jane like me? Do you tear yourself apart to entertain like me? Do the people whisper ‘bout you on the train like me? Saying that "you shouldn't waste your pretty face" like me? [Chorus] And all the people say "You can't wake up, this is not a dream You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline" [Post-Chorus] (Oh, ooh oh, ooh oh, oh) I think there’s a flaw in my code (Oh, ooh oh, ooh oh, oh) These voices won’t leave me alone Well my heart is gold and my hands are cold [Verse 2] Are you deranged like me? Are you strange like me? Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me? Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me? Pointing fingers cause you'll never take the blame like me? [Chorus] And all the people say "You can't wake up, this is not a dream You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline" [Post-Chorus] (Oh, ooh oh, ooh oh, oh) I think there’s a flaw in my code (Oh, ooh oh, ooh oh, oh) These voices won’t leave me alone Well my heart is gold and my hands are cold

Does it "hit different". You all don't sound serious especially when you say hit different. This is all modern days conjuring into your livelihood, and I've been telling people since day one, it's the digital devices fucking up everything, ignoring real life, just living on a recommendation of options, and never solving the problem of making the real world better. And now all this virtual shit, it's just an escapism. Same as Mars, this is the end of our planet, we're just pretending like it's the start. And no I'm not going to say Jesus is coming repent your sins, I'm angry, not basing my life on a story book.

Such a banger! Halsey goes hard and I like how most of her music is geared towards mental health and substance abuse, as an addict in recovery with almost a year clean I can relate to a lot of her stuff and how you can have everything you want handed to you and still feel cometely empty.
@BlackSeranna Жыл бұрын
My daughter had a friend in college like that - she was pretty, petite, and her poison of choice was alcohol. She could drink an entire bottle during a night of partying, no one knew how. Sometimes, in order to dry herself out, she would go home. Her parents would feel bad for her, and they took her shopping hoping that would solve her issues. She ended up dropping out of college. Recently I asked my daughter about this former friend; I found out she had dried herself out and she went back to school and got a degree in education. She now teaches elementary kids and loves it. Sometimes one must find the love for one's self before one can fix the problems. She was a great example, at least to me, what works. My daughter's other friend never figured it out. I loved that kid - his dad owned factories over in China, and he was super sweet to me (even though to the naked eye, I don't look like I have any money; and certainly, I never belonged in a financial class with this kid's parents). That kid, he didn't make it past the age of 26. It grieves my heart that somehow, he fell into the cracks. It just hurts because I see a kid with such potential and kindness, but he couldn't face his demons down.

I love this song. From someone who suffers from mental illness it's amazing to hear that no matter how successful or rich you are, it won't make you happier. The way society views success is not the same for people like me. Not matter who you are, we've all been to a low point. Some people are just able to get out of it sooner than others. Thank you Halsey. You made me realize I'm just me, flaws and all and that's OK.

Are you strange like me? Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me? Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me? Pointing fingers 'cause you'll never take the blame like me? And all the people say You can't wake up, this is not a dream You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline I think there's a flaw in my code (Oh, ooh-oh, ooh-oh, oh) These voices won't leave me alone Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold

Halsey has bipolar disorder, which "Gasoline" plays at all times. "Crazy" isn't the most clinical term, but it identifies his mental state well enough. In a manic episode that he couldn't fully control, he wasted expensive alcohol. Halsey asks if people are willing to put up with her "insanity" while her life goes down the drain, leaving marks (stains) on those who get close to her. After all, people find it crazy to act on "wasteful spending," a common symptom. In fact, Halsey stayed in a castle in Wales where she took a bath in red wine, and she wrote several songs for Badlands and noted in an interview that she was "having a mental breakdown". She tweeted a photo in the middle of the act. , the bottle in the photo is a vintage Jacob's Creek Classic Shiraz Rose. She said: "She was only 19 years old, I was in another country for the first time alone and I had to write the album that was going to make my career. There was a claw foot tub in my room so I called to ask if they would bring me any wine. They knew I was a musician because my label had called before, so they put out 10 bottles. What else do you do with 10 bottles and a clawfoot tub? " One of the side effects of bipolar disorder is hypomania, the state of having higher than normal energy levels, often creating a kind of "height." Halsey asks if people feel this same kind of euphoria as her without the influence of Mary Jane, which is a slang term for marijuana. Mary Jane and gas (oline) are slang terms for marijuana. In "New Americana," Halsey talks about a new, diversified generation taking advantage of the growing legalization of marijuana. "We are the New American" "Stop legal marijuana" According to Halsey, this letter best describes who she is. From her.He thirsts for attention, fame and glamor, even when it hurts her and the people around her. When she is manic, she puts everything into entertaining her fans, to the point of self-harm. It doesn't help that artists in the industry are expected to work hard. Figuratively, tearing apart could allude to the use of self-destructive humor, typically associated with seeking validation from others. During concerts, Halsey is injured by accident. For "Hold Me Down," she has a signature move in which she drops to the ground and grinds down once the beat drops, causing damage and bruising to her knees. Halsey suffered a miscarriage in 2015 the night of her Vevo Lift hers show. Despite suffering the physical and emotional pain of losing a child, she played her career show. She said in an interview with Rolling Stone: "I'm like, 'I have to cancel this show!' And everyone says, 'Well, it's Vevo LIFT, and it's 3 million impressions, so ...' Nobody knew what to do. " Eventually, Halsey sent her a pharmacy assistant to buy adult diapers. She put one in, grabbed two Percocets and went to the spot to do her work. Halsey's unconventional sense of style makes her stand out, which has led to a negative judgment against her. Similar to how she was told to "keep her cute mouth shut" in "Castle", Halsey gets a reprimand for trying to express herself and staying true to who she really is. This also connects with the media's perception and interpretation of her brutal honesty. She does not censor herself, even if the public may perceive the raw truth of her as vulgar. Halsey dreams that she can be accepted by the general public for who she is. However, she hints that this dream will never come true, because she is under the restrictions of society and its cultural limits of what is "acceptable" and what is not. In her mind, the world is full of "robots" - people who don't show their true colors and choose to be different from the rest of the world. These robots try to force Halsey to conform to the standards of society, either by changing her appearance or even her profession. She implies that those who conform to what society defines as good are those who have little self-confidence like forcing themselves to follow popular trends to fit in. Self-esteem is replaced by gasoline in robots, giving the feeling that self-esteem is what helps people get through the day, as gasoline helps maintain the power of a robot. The second line also refers to the "machine" of the music industry. The people who facilitate and benefit from her work, as well as the public, tell her that her feelings don't matter because she is part of the entertainment business, which has a terrible tendency to result in the dehumanization of the artists who join it. . A person in business no longer seems to live for himself, but simply to entertain others. This also connects with the song's line about parting ways to entertain. As an individual living in a "robotic" society, an error in your "code" refers to both the technological code in machines and the human genetic code. A glitch in the genetic code is likely referring to his bipolar disorder, which is known to be related to genetic factors. His inner demons are a constant theme in his lyrics and they have a strong presence throughout the Badlands: My demons beg me to open my mouth I need them, they mechanically make the words come out - "Hold Me Down" I'm colder than this house I'm badder than my demons - "Control" The badlands represent your state of mind, and their cold and inhospitable nature is a reflection of your inner demons. A robot would have a cold "heart" and body. A "heart of gold" refers to someone who is generous and kind. As Halsey describes herself as such, she notices the disconnect between her golden intentions and her cold actions. Edit: OMG, how much likes?!?! Thx so much 😎💪 Edit 2: Thanks all for your supports

Smol Space Dorito Is it funny that I think all of those singers are awful except for Marina? I don't mean offense but Melanie has a tooth gap wider than my doorway. But, that doesn't mean I'm right. I respect that you like those people.

+dayarts No it's fine! I totally respect your opinion. I can see why people wouldn't like Melanie or Halsey.

@DayArts Wait her tooth gap is a reason you're giving for why you don't like her? That doesn't matter. Why do you think it does?

"I think there's a flaw in my code" always resonates with me so much. Back in the ice age of high school I had to write a letter of complaint as an assignment. I wrote mine to god or what ever creative power there might be because I always felt like I wasn't put together the way other people were. The teacher had us read the letters out loud. My classmates were shocked at my descriptions of my emotions.

Those with are mindset are the ones with the thoughts that can actually change the world from our eyes. BUT we will always be overwritten by a more well-spoken person. Celebrities will continue there rere brainwashing to influence the new generation of morons and we'll be to old by then to have a voice dying in the shadows. This world as I see it is fuqed with no way out, death is ez if you have the balls to go through with (that). We waste 12 years learning about 95% of crap we won't use in what ever are future leads us to do.(job-wise). Sigh To another year of reality cause I don't blind myself through drugs or alcoholic shit. I see the world as it's meant to be scene. Not hiding like rest smoking up and drinking them selves to death. Sure I feel the pain we casually push aside but I'm not done yet 🫡✌️

Good on you for possessing the cajones to read it aloud. I would've looked my English teacher right in the eye and refused, had I written a paper like yours. But that would've been the least of my worries, had I detailed my home life, so I probably wouldn't have had the fortitude to write it like you did at all.
