some people in the comments ask why they always shout ''police''. the point is 1. it's obligatory to clearly inform the fleeing party/criminal/suspect that it's the police, that's the rule, even if it's obvious. Fact - criminal can lie later, that he didn't hear, but the cops still have to shout it out 2. for public safety; such chases often end with shooting or fighting, so it's better that people move away from the place where it happens .

That's all fine if there is pursuit in progress, but almost always it's them getting the drop on some violently ruthless p.o.s. ,and all they needed to do was roll up on the guy and grab him by surprise, no running, no gunning, no body hurt, but they get w/in100 feet and just broadcast who they are to some scumbag wanted for impaling babies on tent poles or some such heinous crap, and that's stupid. But I guess it would be a boring show if they just grabbed up all the bad guys with out incident huh?

Xp3r you miss my point, there wouldn't be any shooting, or running, or fighting, if they just kept quiet and walked right up to the wanted serial rapist that was busy doing an inventory on his kidnapping and rape supplies to notice, but they get within 50ft them yell the guys name, followed by" police " and then it's off to the races while raping robber sprays bullets everywhere, they do it in every episode, but like I already conceded, it wouldn't be much of a crime" drama" if they just quietly apprehended all the gutter slop with out incident would it now?

It would be more of a misunderstanding. I can see your point of cops sneaking up on someone suspicious, and that's alright, as long as the cops didn't blow their own cover yet, like one cop got his cover blown, but the others kept a low profile. For instance, the bus episode near the park had an undercover cop inside the bus with the suspect in question with civilians around, but then he got a little suspicious because another cop entered the bus staring at him, and subtly brandished his pistol on his lap, so then the UC cop drawn hers in response and then captured the person without calling out "Police". But if the smart ones found out and did all that "drama" as you called in quote, then the cops in chase shout police, as you mentioned. So I partly agree with you, but the other party had a point so, so it's a win win.
