You should make more of these. This helped out so much. I think we live close to one another by the sounds of mount hood.

Great video, this is something I want to get into and this is the first video I have found that is easy to understand and straight to the point 10/10, out of curiosity if you wanted to do simplex with a small group of people how do you know which frequency to use (how do you know it’s not being used by someone else who might not appreciate the chatter)
@Jayman28003 жыл бұрын
The standard two meter simplex frequency is 146.520
@Jayman28003 жыл бұрын
And if you're using simplex, unless a random person is within 4 miles of you or your on top of a mountain, even if they're on the same frequency they probably won't hear you

Cool video! I hope you decide to do some follow up videos on the practical reasons to be licensed and how the licensing works....what's involved. 👍

Micah Watson that’s a good idea, I could do a video on that process!

Not sure what your hobbies are, but if you are into camping, hiking, offroading/4x4s, or basically anything that takes you out of typical cell phone range, it's a great way to stay in communication with your party.

Thanks. Some good info. A little critique. Hopefully it's of some value to you. Like soooo many KZbin vids it takes too long to get to the content. Almost 3 minutes of... (what was all that?) content the video poster thinks is really cool, but that viewers don't find releveant or beneficial. I understand it was supposed to be a demo, but it was a painful slog through 3 minutes of... I'm not sure what to call it Most times I'll either skip through past people's long elaborate "cool" intros, but I kept watching, waiting for you to get to the point. I was just about to give it a thumbs down & skip to the next video when you finally got to some valuable content. Again, thanks for the useful info. Hope I haven't come across too harsh. There are lots of videos here about how to make good KZbin videos. Justin Brown from Primal Video has a channel here dedicated to helping folks make quality, attention grabbing videos, avoiding the common things that kill an otherwise good video. Good luck!

In the first sentence it has a hyperlink to the actual rule by the fcc. I have called, personally, Scot Stone (legal) at 2024180638 and clarified the stated rule. It was issued and passed in 2017 to come into effect this month/year. Basically only bans these handheld that have frs and other emergency frequencies in COMBINATION. It does not ban people from getting two handhelds to cover both spectrums. It's more of a dummy proof for uneducated people to not buy these and use the wrong unlicensed band widths. It's more of an inconvenience kinda thing.

@@photojnt Yes..The combo radios were always a weird thing. Even these so called "5watt" gmrs radios like the midlands shown, are only putting out minimal power. They are basically kids toys. The Baofengs and other chinese radios haven't ever followed FCC rules, and I don't think there is any way to actually stop them from coming in. Even my yaesu vx8 can be modified to transmit on frs frequencies. I think they should have simply made the non licensed limit to 5 watts if it has a non removable antenna. That weeds out the kids toys..
