I have found the crystal microphone element from an old rotary dial telephone to work fantastic. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards, Eric Dee.

I did not know that. Thanks. Some very expensive microphones have a built in tube preamp. 73, Jim

@@ham-radio : Your Welcome. My Brother retired from GTE (General Telephone) here on the west coast some years back, he brought that to my attention when I was fiddling with microphones. While watching your video and thought an old Mic element from a rotary phone would fit in that Mic head/D-104 very nicely. I have noticed lately that microphone/headset vacuum tube pre amp-amp kits have been flooding the market in either complete built units and in kit form, never personally fiddled with one, heard good and bad, guess it wouldn't hurt buying one for grins. Great channel by the way, well thought out and informative videos. Thanks for sharing! Kind regards, Eric Dee.

Thanks Jim! I have a D-104 from 1973 or 74 that I bought new. It has been out of service for 30 years or so. Should I bypass the Astatic preamp to use it with my FT-991A?

Thanks to you again for watching. Nice to hear from you my friend. I will see what I can do about another video on audio. I am thinking about showing what happens when clipping takes places. Thanks for the idea. 73, Jim W6LG Hope to hear you on 20 meters!

I'm defiantly going to try this also Jim. I'm like you I'm all about audio. "BROADCAST"audio. I'll let you know. I'm a d104 fanatic just cracked open. Runs great with the Yeasu 757 gx2. Especially on A. M. Sounds like tube rig with processor on.. 73's

I would love to see a video actually building the microphone from scratch, then using it and showing us how to adjust for our liking. I personally would like to build a microhone that picks up mor low than high. How can I acheive that? Thanks again! I love what you do with the hobby!

Hi Jim, how do you record your qso's audio? I've seen in your videos small box that goes to mic. Thanks! 73
