I started using HRD a few months ago and you are right: there is a lot there and it will take some time before I get it all talking to GridTracker and WSJTX. I have contacted them for support questions and I usually just get referred to their manual, which is frustrating, since I have nearly memorized the manual sections already trying to figure it out. Rig control is pretty consistent and I hope they get full native support for the Xiegu G90 someday (hopefully before my subscription expires, hahaha). Good program, fair price (if you get the various discounts offered), and huge functionality if you are patient enough and have the time to keep learning how to implement the features. Haven't tried using it in the field with a laptop, but I will work with it in the future. Overall, a nice program even if all you used it for was logging, but it does soooo much more than that.

Awesome stream. Looking forward to the HRD redesign. Hoping it gets a small screen mode… as in an ordinary laptop for when portable. As it is, multiple huge monitors are a must for HRD. HRD demands being immersed in it so the three to five clicks to achieve what should be a common sense default is not a problem… but for the portable ham or not fully immersed in one tool, HRD is a hindrance needlessly. Watched a video on printing labels… and the click count was intense for something that could have been implemented more simply. I LOVE that the CEO is involved and driving the software forward. It needs it. That windows XP look has gotta go.

Aaah, so THAT’s why as a newer ham, and just having installed HRD, I find igt simply overwhelming. From install, to use. Like a tsunami coming at me.

I just purchased HRD and set it up with my ic-7300. I notice there is no waterfall display available. Also the audio still emanates from the radio and not the computer speakers. When I ran HRD in full scree mode there was no easy way to close the app. I used task manager-shutdown to close HDR. I am so far unimpressed with this product.

Hi All, I just yesterday installed HRD on my ‘puter. I am overwhelmed! I am a relatively new ham. What I want is to simply have the screen of my G90, blown up in size and showin/g as-is, on the ‘puter. My eyes have trouble with all that is packed into a 1.8” screen. So, putting it on my laptop would be ideal. But, HRD has me overwhelmed with a massive setup project that is beyond my know-how. Thoughts?

You mentioned it worked great with the IC705 to track satellites….I have a 705. What antenna were you using to control and access the satellite?

This was interesting I just upgraded so I could try it again. I tried the Trial version to use PSK31 and it was very difficult to figure out. But if it will show Pota and all the FT8 stuff looks like its worth the effort to get it working. It knew I was a customer, last time I purchased it was in 2015 wow its been awhile.

Sat tracker portion - I have been unable to set my HOME location correctly. It shows up over by Africa. It shows my home location as an observer.

You need to be a licensed Ham to use HRD now . Even for the trial version. I am a radio dxer and not a Ham . Today I still use the last released free version of HRD for rig control, logging and band scanning with the HRD scope. I guess I saved $80 for a upgrade since HRD now can only be used for licensed hams with their call registered on QRZ. I guess they forgot about other segments of the market. Their loss.

I know it's far into the future when I'm posting this, but your description of a dirt road that a Honda Civic can't traverse as "not an offroad trail" simply shows how weak modern vehicles have become(or how unwilling people are to test the limits of their cars). In my mind, a simply dirt road should be easily traversal by nearly every vehicle on the road. I've taken early 1990's 2wd Dodge Caravans onto forest roads which were not maintained and in the 15-20yrs since are now ATV trails. After a failed field day digital attempt today, where I had so much trouble trying to get FLDigi to talk to my G90 that I gave up after a couple hours. Considering Ham Radio Deluxe, but as it's currently Windows only and I'm primarily a Linux user with 1 Windows 11 laptop I used for Windows needs, Not really thrilled to have all my eggs in one basket if that laptop should fail(I've got a stack of laptops running Linux, and a Chromebook)

So what do you consider QRP vs QRO? I have seen some think anything over 5w is QRO, others anything over 20w, and yet others anything over 100w.

QRP is generally 10 watts and lower. If you want to take a hardline, 5 watts and lower.

HRD phones home on startup to validate your software license. If I'm in the field with no 'Net connection, will HRD still work?

Yes, absolutely. The software checks-in with the license server when it launches to update your entitlements (that's how new features get enabled). But it works perfectly fine offline. As far as this is concerned, it works exactly the same way as Microsoft programs (Office, Visio, Project, etc) to validate the entitlements. Additionally, the system we use now for authentication activation keys is a product by Soraco called "Quick License Manager (QLM) and it is entirely made and managed by by Soraco. We put this in place in mid-2019 to get rid of the old one we had in-service from 2012 to 2019.

That fact that you pay for the software and then have to pay an additional fee is crap. I bought this software but abandoned it due to not being able to do bulk lookups. GARBAGE.

I don’t you understand their license model? The fee is for a years worth of updates and support. After the year, you still can use all the updates that came out that year. Want the new updates? Pay for a new year. Not sure what you mean by bulk lookups. I asked that during the show and you can.

You used to be able to select multiple log entries and do a lookup which would fill in names, location etc... for all those selected entries. The the "new management" took over and after that when you select multiple entries and click "lookup" you get an error saying the following: "Feature not available, A renewal of Software Maintenance and support is required in order to access the bulk callsign lookup feature." Even if you only select one log entry it gives that message. I brought this to their attention but was ignored. In my eyes it was a bait and switch. I won't lie, I like the software package. But without that feature it's a no go. I can't imagine why they are so greedy over a feature that should b standard. 🤔

@@WC6Q Sorry. But the software has never been able to do bulk lookups (via QRZ etc). That was just added a couple years ago. You may be thinking of "bulk editor" (which has been there for years; but it doesn't fill from QRZ, etc). And no... you don't get that message if you select just one entry. We pay developers to build these features. We do appreciate the feedback. But as Josh says, "I don't think you understand the license/pricing model."

@@HamRadioDeluxe Look. I know what this software does as I have had it from the beginning when it came out. There is no way to look up multiple entries at the same time or even one for that matter. Don't try to say it doesn't. It used to work until shortly after you took over. As far as I am concerned this suite is useless and I am not going to pay a fee to do a basic feature like lookups. Doesn't matter anyway, I don't use it anymore because I am disgusted with your "company". I don't think you even know what your software does.

@@WC6Q Ryan, the only thing I can conclude is that you haven't tried Ham Radio Deluxe in 10 years. I'm not aware of a time when single lookups did not work. We added bulk lookups a few years ago (on 15-Nov 2020).
