Good arguments in favour of ham radio supplied speakers. Whether one agrees or not, there's good information in those arguments. Thanks!!

We picked up the first SP2000 second hand, because we struggled with the exact issue most do - they are overpriced for 'what they are' relative to other Audio gear. It was only after using and owning it for a few years - and exploring the different options - that it became apparent why they charge what they do: because they solve a unique problem. The trick is not to get focused on a specific model, but find one you like, at a price you can afford. Thanks for the kind words and understanding the point we were trying to make :). 73, Jarrad VK3BL

you probably dont care but if you're stoned like me atm then you can watch pretty much all of the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of months xD

Great advice all round. I have 2 x Yaesu SP-2000 speakers as well. Love the rich audio. Look forward to the two speaker video :)

Its just rendering now :) Dual Speakers on Dual Receivers is quite a complicated experience; there is a lot to cover! 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)

I use a Klipsch KV-1 center channel speaker with my ICOM 7300. Like all Klipsch speakers, it has high sensitivity that works well with a 1-2 watt input. It also has smooth response and very low distortion.

Great video, really enjoyed watching as I am looking for an external speaker for my FTDX10. I'm not impressed with the "made for" speaker for that radio - the SP-30 as no filter switches as you demonstrated. Would you feel comfortable pairing the FTDX10 and the SP-2000? And what difference do the ohm ratings make when trying to decide on a good external speaker? Definitely going to watch your microphone shootout!!!

I use an old, but still great, set of Sony MDR-V6 headphones.

If my memory serves me correctly, they were also classic studio monitoring headphones :) Sounds like the perfect choice Jim! 73, Jarrad VK3BL

hi,good video, well explained, getting a Yaesu sp 9000 speaker to replace the Icom sp 23 speaker for my Icom ic 7300, hope it comes next week, thanks from Rotterdam.

Thanks Jarrad! I also really like those Yaesu SP-2000's myself, but I'm one of those operators with an oldschool graphic EQ (yeah with the twenny sliders!!) and a nice pair of Wharfedale Diamond MKIII's. Use them for mainly for P.C. audio and can input radio audio too. The Kenwood HS-5 are the cans of choice here. Designed specifically for communications grade audio and really perform well. That softdrink behind you.....what is it and has it got you pepped up to the point of shack fever, with physical symptoms of knocking things to the floor being exhibited?? :)

Laughs, the soft drink in that video is actually Green Tea, Honey and Ginseng :). Its an American import and the brand is 'Arizona'. Of all the drinks I enjoy, it is probably the last one that would make me clumsier than usual! :) 73, Jarrad VK3BL

I thought it must have been one of those "Energy" drinks, the type that enable you to QSY manually like you have a cordless drill attached to the VFO dial. Might have had some side effects ;)

Woohoo our first 'thumbs down' / dislike already! KZbin loves it when people are engaged with a creators content, and even negative emotions are a sign of engagement! 73 to who ever you are, Jarrad VK3BL! :)

Rate My Radio Not need to care much to the 'dislike' . :) Just give an honest view, that matters. We cannot make everybody happy. .

Indeed Bahathir, it is funny, a dislike is good for a youtube channel, it shows people are watching :). This makes me happy :) 73, Jarrad VK3BL

I was joking Jeff; I like to hear from all viewers, whether or not they like the content. I'm sorry if that came across as arrogant. :)

What do you think of the Heil pro 7 or similar? They're made for and by ham radio aren't they? I was eyeballing them for my VKFF outtings :) Cheers for the vid - VK4ALE
@RateMyRadio6 жыл бұрын
They're very popular, but I haven't personally tried one. They are indeed made by a Ham for Ham Radio, so I would be pretty disappointed if they didn't tick most of the boxes. The boom mic especially should have a classic contesting or dxing sound that would be great for your VKFF activations Jonathan. The only question is, do you go with the bright pink ones? :). If so, we expect pictures! 73, Jarrad VK3BL
@JonathanAdami6 жыл бұрын
Of course, bright pink all the way! hahaha To be honest I thought it'd be pretty fun but when the fun wears off, you're left with very expensive pink headphones :/ so probably blue! :) Thanks for always answering all my random questions ;) Much appreciated!

Yet another informative video. My main monitor is IEMs. I have several pair of IEMs with different sound characteristic. I prefered a single balanced armature (BA) which make voice much clearrer. Monitoring with IEMs also a better choice compared to the rig's speaker, when listening to ESSB stations. I hear the big deep bass and clear mid. It is also comfortable, and isolates surrounding noise much better. I like IEMs and this comment is biased towards IEMs., but, I do agreed the choice of mid centric headphones such as studio headphones. Thank you. Bahathir 9W2GNU, 73.

Dear Bahathir, you will have to let us know the model of your IEMs; I am sure there are suitable ones out there but I have not had the luxury of trying them. As you know, Balanced Armature technology is very complicated and hard to get right. 73, Jarrad VK3BL

Rate My Radio My favorite for HF monitoring is Sony XBA-C10. Thiese are the cheapest and very lightweight single driver BA IEMs from Sony. I also have 4xBAs, custom made IEms, Unique Melody Mage. THese are clarity centric Another IEMs are UM3Xs , 3x BA drivers universal IEMs. But I found it too much mids for my listening preferences. Since the Sony XBA C10 had cable damage, currently using PSB EM4U hybrid 1xBA + 1x dynamic drivers IEMs.. .. Good for lower mids an mid. I think that all BA driver IEMs. :) Thank for asking.

My advice is to try the headphones, earphones or IEMs before purchasing it. If it is not possible, read reviews as much as possible and try to imagine the 'sound characteristic' . But, we have to believe the reviewers.. :) because, sometimes it is not what we get.. Try browse headfi.org for some reviews, or just read Amazon;s review. Thank you.

Great video. I have a pair of Sennheiser HMD 300 Pro that includes a microphone XLR connector. They are super comfortable and the audio is great. Do you know where I can find how to connect the XLR to a ICOM 7610?

I have a ham radio dedicated speakers wich are made from a italian ham after thousands experiments , thousands prototypes and thousands measurements by the anechoic chamber. Also the speaker's coils are made (Jensen) by his technical specifications. Yaesu, Icom and so on speakers are a joke compared to this one but hey, there are hams who're happy with (eg) Trust, LG etc etc computer speakers , or even hifi ones. While testing, tweaking here and there they were listened by a "orchestra conductor" wich has the "perfect ear" (he's also a ham) . That said.. if it have to be a speaker it MUST be THIS kind of a speaker. For better info please dig for "Radio Speaker" by IV3GXZ .

Dear Adriano, I have taken your advice and looked at this speaker; it is indeed a work of love by a true artist. One of my other passions is woodwork, and for a long time I desired only to make my own speakers, but with little time and young children, I have not got their yet. Luckily, I have a few more solar cycles left in myself, and one day I will build the speaker for me :). I am glad you have found a beautiful speaker for yourself; many people neglect this aspect of radio. 73, Jarrad VK3BL

When you switch the source switch from A to B on these speakers, what happens to the audio on the A source? Does it go back to the transceivers internal speaker or just get cut off? (Assuming you have two radios, one each connected to A and B)
