Is there a modern 400-520 mhz model, particularly for GMRS 460- 470mhz? Can't even find these 1708s new from what I'm seeing

If you watch the video with CC subtitles turned ON you can actually see the 781 performs better as the subtitles are generated on the audio quality , and are more readable on mic A rather than mic B . I also preferred mic A on the audio quality 73 de Ricky G0LZX

I just got at2k so what mode is the radio in if your tuning ? and is internal radio tuner on too and connection between radio and tuner is tuned ? Just wondering if anything can happen to radio when I’m sending 20w into tuner to tune with high SWR on the tuner

really stepped up my ability to hear better on the 705 and on my FT-991a even see the waterfall better and re-read the manual since RF gain acts differently on that radio... but principles the same ! didn't hurt that I went from a 1/4 wave loaded antenna to a EFHW that latter hears way better than the compromise antenna.. and noticed blobs on the WF... which were multiple signals close together :)

Thank you for this demonstration, and, while I apologise for the late comment (or query), may I seek your advice on why I could not received a local (UK BBC radio 4) 200KHz AM broadcast, while it is received loud and clear on vintage Selena, Sony ICF-7601L and on NRD-535. All these radios are placed in the same location, using the same antennae (long wire and other). In fact, the portable radios pick up this broadcast with hardly any antenna extension, while the IC-R8600 renders nothing but (50Hz) noise, and this is despite trying all the permutations on turning on 'noise reduction', attenuation, reducing RF gain. Am I doing anything wrong? Thank you.

Thank you again for this demonstration. Seeing how nicely and smoothly you rotate the main dial, I apologise for asking: I can find no where in the manual how to adjust the tension on the main dial. The Instruction Manual only briefly points (1.1) to this barely visible knob, but it does not give any instruction. The knob seems stiff and I wonder if it has a catch, detent or other mechanism to release so as to allow it to be slid across the adjustment arc. Thank you.

9.99 out of 10 YT videos featuring some kind of radio show the radio at full gain. Most times it doesn't matter tho, because the SNR is bad anyway and if it isn't, well, moar signal must be better, right? The concept of trading surplus signal levels for more SNR hasn't really caught on in 120 years of radio, or it was forgotten as it seems, and losing <GASP> not only the S-meter reading but also the waterfall is maybe not helping with that.

I love my IC-7100. It has so many cool (and practical) features such as multimeter, SWR graph. I do wish that it had a color screen and maybe a band scope that works better. If they ever upgrade this radio I will definitely buy the new version. I love the small footprint on my desk. Awesome.

Hi there, you can see the scope much better if you touch the exp tap bottom right. also on section 2 at the bottom of the scope if you touch REF and turn the tuning dial to say minus 10db, it will get rid of all the noise on the scope, although it wont effect the incoming audio from the speaker, but its easier to see the lines on there...from Fred g4vvq in Uk..

It is important to know that the modulation is better because MH36 uses electret capsule while MH 31 uses dynamic capsule

I love the curved meters on the 7610 and it would have be nice to have this option on the 7300. The 7610 looks impressive but I don’t need two receivers, The 7300 is my first and only HF rig.

I remember hearing the TV screen when I was a kid with fresh ears, my slightly younger relatives said the same thing. Are there any modern technologies for public use that make high frequency noises that kids and humans with good ears can pick up?

This is unfair! To have two Yaesu radios on top of the two Icom radios! Most of the people will say, the Icom radios are the better radios, ... ! Even if it is not true, ... ! (Hi Hi ! ! !) I have a FT-817 (made in 2001, now 'out of order', a retired radio now) and a fairly new FT-818ND, now replacing the 'retired' one, ... ! Tnx fr the test, es gs dx de ... The 781 was made for icom radios , This is what I was told from the main man Bob Heil , So it would work better on any icom radio . The pr40 works better on other radios like the kenwood & FT 9000mp & others .

Hello Jared, first off I really appreciate your informative videos! On the 7300 monitor function, as we know doesn't give the true representation of the TX audio, while compression levels are set per the manual, even sometimes lower (5-7db on COMP meter), the monitor audio sounds tight and distorted...is this also inaccurate as far as hearing the raspy sound and distortion with only 5-10 db of compression? I haven't had a chance to listen to a web sdr as of yet. Thanks!
