What a cool idea, I'm a little wary of those CF PETG mounts due to the leverage on them, careful in windy conditions. Best part about 3D printing is you can easily make spares

Hi Alex. We printed your 45 deg mount, and are going to use an Alaskan Arrow antenna with it. I'm going to try to use a PVC (Schedule 40) cross boom as the Alaskan is longer/heavier, so I'd like to have it balanced. Hope I can fit the mount inside a 1in (Inside diameter) PVC pipe. Haven't gotten that yet. For now, not going to have RHCP but will look into how you did yours.

I LITERALLY just bought one of the Arrow antennas to use for Field Day! 🙂 - And like you, I've beem running fixed polarization (vertical in my case) for satellite operation, with the resultant fading issues you mentioned, so I'm VERY interested in seeing how your project turns out, I may do the same! 73, Tom WA1LBK

Very nice! I just received my antenna rotator from Sarctrac in Australia. It’s a wireless rotator that does azimuth and elevation. I will be using a dual band elk log periodic beam antenna. I am also waiting for a wireless controller and a stepper motor that will enable me to adjust for horizontal and vertical polarization. I will post a video when I get this project together.

Great video! Lots of great info.. Do you have a write up on the project? Wondering if you jotted down a bill of materials and such? I have the “Alaskan” Arrow and was thinking of buying a second and doing the mods to make one for UHF & the other for VHF, like yours. :)

Very cool I am dreaming of something like that in my futur., Question I have a similar set up but with one 2m arrow vertical and one 70cm amazon brand yagi horizontal. I noticed your gamma match are upwards and not downwards. I have mine mounted downward is that a flaw in my install?? Thanks

Very glad I found your channel. Great video, very impressive hope to make contact with you on the satellites. I've been thinking about installing an HF beam under my antennas like the 6 meter one you have and was wondering if they would interfere with each other. I have subscribed and looking forward to more videos.
@va3ase Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind note, glad you liked the video. The antennas probably do interfere with each other, but there are a lot of compromises I've accepted in this setup. I'm sure there are calculations or simulations you can use to avoid any interference if you're very concerned. In my case it hasn't stopped me from reaching VUCC on 6m and satellite.

Nice one Alex, I’ll be watching this with much interest as I’m planning on a portable EME system to get away from all the QRM at my home QTH. I wonder if you’ve considered scaling this up at some point for EME/p cheers and 73, Richard. G0NAD
@va3ase Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you asked, I've been slowly assembling an EME station for a couple years that will be portable and mounted to a trailer. I plan to start with a 6' dish on the 23cm band. But I'm also considering a 2m or 70cm build. I have lots of ideas but never enough time! I've been blown away with the amount of interest in this project though and will be diligent about making KZbin videos on all my future projects.

Yes, all other things being identical, bigger is always better.

Of course, but what about when other things are not identical? Spoiler alert: bigger is still better. Part 3 coming soon with my conclusions.

I've found that the ham radio community can be very generous when they see someone who is passionate about the hobby and wanting to try new things. Making these videos is one way I've tried to give a bit back. Glad you enjoyed watching!

Nice setup. Not for me, too pricey.
@va3ase Жыл бұрын
I agree it is an expensive setup which probably doesn't make sense if I was buying everything new. I've been very fortunate to know local hams who enjoy my antics, and they have generously donated some of the high value parts like the G-5400 rotor and preamps. Also this setup is really just an experiment and I wouldn't really suggest others copy it. I've been distracted with other projects recently and behind schedule for posting an update but I will address all of this in the future. Thanks for watching!
