for people who know nothing about tanks this might look like an invincible tank, but let's be clear, any tank in the world have weakenesses specially on the side or the rear due to heavy weight on the tracks, tanks can't have thick armor on the sides or the tank wouldn't even be able to move. the trophy system is a great defence system against ATGM like the kornet or the javelin but the system itself have some dead angles which means it can't protect all angles of the tank, and the trophy system can't defend close range projectiles because it won't have enough time to react, not like when being targetted by kornet which can be fired from a distance up to 3 KM. one more thing, the Al-yassin 105 is tandem warhead, it has a piercing armor projectile which penetrate the ERA protection and a second HEAT round that explode right after the armor is penetrated by the first projectile and cause big damage to the crew inside the tank, we might not see a big explosion from outside the tank but be sure the crew inside the tank are being cooked since the explosion happened inside the tank. the merkava have been promoted as the best tank in the world which is not far from truth, it might not be better than the abrams but it's still a tank with good protection overall, but it doesn't mean it's invincible and we have seen that in 2006 war with hezbollah when 1/3 of the tanks that entered south lebanon got destroyed. never forget that urban warfare is the worst environment for a mechanised war machine.

@@johnweir1217 yes the tracks are so vulnerable and some of the merkava tanks that didn't get destroyed they get their tracks broken and that's sufficient to make it useless. A tank that can't move is a dead tank. Some pictures released two days ago shows some merkava tanks that are intact but abandoned, probably because they got their tracks or engine broken and IDF couldn't pull them out of gaza strip due to ongoing fighting.

The Al-Yasin has proven very effective in the close urban combat in Gaza as the Israeli trophy anti-missile system does not have sufficient time to spot and track incoming 105 RPG rounds fired at close range. all the information is general but does not address the fact that Al Yasin RPGs have destroyed at least 250+ armoured vehicles which at least 1/3 are Merkava tanks. Other armoured vehicles also carry Merkava shell so they have the same body strength. The only difference they dont have barral. In urban ruble in Gaza, 2-3 launches within a 1-2 seconds from a few 100 meters will result in penetration even if coming from RPG-29s (and potentially immobilization if they are side or rear hit).

Anti tank weapons are by design very simpel to make, a copper disc is heated up by an explosive and it becomes liquid that can go through steel like butter. You can see that newer anti tank rounds have two warheads, so the first smaller charge takes out the reactive armor and the second charge hits the main armor. Hopes this helps people to understand better why tanks are vulnerable to anti tank weapons but still important on the battlefield.

I have access to the Hamas and related group, websites and from what I have seen so far about 13 Merkava tanks have been taken out of action and a whole bunch of other armored vehicles. So many have been taken out that the IDF no longer sends in tanks alone first. Now they send in infantry along with the tanks to protect the tanks. Personally, I would hate to be inside a tank or armored vehicle in such a conflict.

Who told you there's about 200 El Yassin Rockets? Hamas probably has 3000+ of these weapon, if it didn't have that many it wouldn't go to War with Israel that has 2200 Merkava Tanks, 1600 of them battle ready, I would presume Hamas has made at least 3000 of them. don't forget they also posses the Kornet as well but that's another storey. El Yassin costs around $500 each, Kornet System costs $26,000 what would be the best option to destroy a $6m dollar Tank? El Yassin 105. cheaper and ideal for urban warfare where effective Range 100 Meters can easily be met. most of the times the Hamas fighters actually place the explosive to the tank from Zero Range.
