I’ve been cooking like that my entire life, (62) now. We never had much money growing up, and still don’t. We raised 4 children on dishes like you been showing. I had to laugh at the hotdog buns. I famous for my bun garlic toast. God Bless you and the Kitty Crew this Thanksgiving 🙏🏼

It's always good to spend time with you and your calm common sense, Mr. Tom. The casserole looks hearty and tasty. This is so much the way I cook! I pull a chunk of meat out of the freezer and end up putting a couple of meals back to freeze. By the time I've added vegetables and rice or pasta or potatoes, or a bed of grits, the bulk is four times what it started at.

I would have eaten it without the cheese lol..Hello Mr. Tom! Love it when a man is able in the kitchen! Mr. Tom can "burn" !! Bout them mushrooms- I remember we would used to go for mushrooms to the forest. My uncle is an expert identifying a lot of them (we never had any problems) I myself can identify bout 5 different kind but those 100%...dehydrated then used for gravy and other dishes -so so good and flavorful! What you cooked today is sort of a "Boeff Stroganoff" looks so good! I bet it tasted great! Thanks for showing it your way Mr. Tom! God bless and stay warm! (29F here last night (Tue/Wed night)

The only time we had fresh mushrooms was in spring mushroom season. Otherwise, we always used canned. If I don't have fresh celery, I'll either use cream of celery soup, or some dehydrated celery dices. Also will sometimes use sausage instead of the ground beef. It's all about what I've got on hand to put in it. Love to see you make these old tried and true meals, Mr Tom!

That looks delicious! And thank you for taking the time to do a video -- even though the hour was late and you were tired and hungry. Now that is kindness. There's a part of me that hopes you never ever remodel your kitchen. I truly love the high gloss paint, the glass knobs on the cabinets, the formica counter tops and the tile floor. No remodel could ever look that cozy. I have a feeling that if a dietitian took a look at your meal, he/she would say that it was totally balanced and healthful. Somehow our moms knew just how to do that -- without even having to calculate how much potassium or iron might be in each meal. How did they do that? Your kitchen looks familiar. Could that be because we have the same salt and pepper shakers, same bamboo spatula, same striped rung in front of the sink/stove, same wicker paper plate holders, same ladle, etc. etc. I think we Dollar Store shoppers all probably have that deja vu feeling when we're in each others' kitchens! Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family, Mr. Tom and to all your subscribers, the Kitty Krew and Stella, who is hopefully staying close to home these days. Blessings!

Looks amazing Mr.Tom I remember my late Gram used to make this exact dish when we were growing up for all of us grandchildren. It was one of many that she'd cook up when she had all 13 at the time at her house at once..Because it would stretch She was a big believer on eating left Iver's as well for lunch or dinner. I'm just like her when I was raising my girls and still to this day There is another I can remember her cooking for breakfast it was fried taters onions with crumbled sausage then add scrambled eggs that too is an amazing meal I still make as well....Hugs loves and many blessings Mr.Tom

Dear, Mr. Tom! This was similiar to my mom & grandma Hill's recipe, but honestly- your family has added quite a bit more flavor including seasonings & then adding the mushrooms!! I've been making spaghetti lately, & meatloaf to use hamburger (ground beef or bison here) more often. I'm excited to try this recipe, I've still got some spuds from the garden. My mom made a white sauce, rather than the cream of mushroom soup, but I've got a lot of that soup in my preps, so this will be fun to change things up a bit. We use the cream of mushroom soup in our tuna casserole & I already know this will be great, because that soup adds so much flavor & creaminess. Yum, on adding those frozen bright green peas!! During the depression, my grandparents & yours were very ingenious coming up with delicios fare. Spokane is up north, so my Grandmother probably had different resources than east coast, midwest, southern families. Its so interesting to learn about these things. I can't believe how 'poor' we have suddenly become in the last year...these recipes will be our saving grace. (It costs an added $14 to fill our gas tank). Thank you, Mr. Tom. God bless you & the kitty🐾 crew. 💞🙏p.s. Mr. Tom, my other grandma was nearly vegetarian & had a huge garden as she had survived stage 4 cancer & she was so careful making everything herself, homemade bread, & she ate chicken once a week, it was crispy southern fried for us kids, but hers was baked or roasted. I guess she was careful in such extreme degrees, but it paid off for her. She made preserves, canned fruit, & canned almost everything, so she taught my mom canning, & I learned some from mom. All these old fashioned ways are back now, of course some of us never stopped using them. Ok, enough of my rattling on. 🐾🙂

Hi Mr Tom! I made a version of this tonight for supper (I ‘veganized’ it 😉). My ingredients were slightly different, but the basic principles were the same. It was delicious and there will be enough to feed me all week. Thank you so much for sharing! Blessings from the land of ice and snow 🇨🇦!
