commenting in 2024, im not sure why this model isnt selling well for hamilton, it's fabulous! i thought i would like the murph the most, but when i tried it on in person, it's sadly meh for me. i think this aviation 38mm is possibly their best 38mm model, above khaki field and murph

Agreed! I had my eye on the 38mm Murph originally for a field watch, but when I found this model it was a no brainer ... the bezel and dial texture are subtle but brilliant ... no regrets with this one

I just bought the 38 mm after lusting over it for nearly 2 years. This is my third Hanmilton and It's just beautiful. Classy yet sporty, too bad it didn't get the success it deserves.

Strong agree with you about "don't put an automatic on a dial". Keep the dial clean, please! (shout to every watch brand).

This is a perfect example of where the dial size matters more than the case width. I tried on the 38 mm version in a store, and compared it side by side with my 40 mm diver, and the dial on the 38 mm was actually bigger. I really would appreciate it if going forward you would include a precise measurement of the dial left to right. Great presentation by the way!

I have the 43mm and love the style. I agree about the screws, it would look fantastic with a little bit of decoration and blued screws in the movement. And the clicking of the winding is the most satisfying ever. I am getting mine to an official service shop to hopefully get it regulated to a bit better result - mine is at +25s average which is really not great.

would have loved a hand-wind 40 mm with small seconds and a 12 hr bezel (much more usable than the countdown bezel). I think I'll go with the 38 mm.

I like the small seconds version. I would have been all up on it already. But the size at 43mm. Wth?! I understand it could be the limitations of that mechanical pocket watch movement. Perhaps if they had used a different one like the 7001, I believe that's it? They might have been able to squeeze it into a smaller case. I would say so because I have a small second stoea coming in that's 36mm with a small seconds. It's a similar kind of disappointment regarding the size of the watch when I look at "the Murph". A really good looking watch, but a tad too big especially in the lug to lug length.

I didn't realize there was 43mm model. All the press was around the 38, which isn't surprising. I agree about the blued screws. That would have been a nice touch, especially since it's in the 4 figures territory. Just look at what you can get from Stova around the same price point. I think this is a nice looking watch. I could wear the 43mm, just barely with the 52mm lug-to-lug. I am content with my "Cooper" though. I have a friend with a 7.6" wrist that would never wear something as small as 38mm though. He'd probably like the 43mm model. It's nice to see some AR from Hamilton too. I'm not surprised about the lume, as Hamilton isn't known for having amazing lume, and the faux patina type lume never seems to do as well.

Lovely watches. But should have saphire crystal. Seiko manage it on their Alpiner line at a lower price point.

I have to agree with your view on the bezel FT, 48 click is a GMT bezel, it's totally at odds with the countdown markings. Otherwise both look great, I'd consider a look at either but that bezel is off putting.

They should have done a second time zone bezel, then the 48 click would make sense (or even a 24 click since it is only 12 hour). I also find second time zone bezels to be more useful than count down bezels. Everyone knows that each hour marking is 5 minutes, so you can still use a time zone bezel or count up or count down, plus it is actually useful when traveling to keep track of a second timezone.

@@NathanKrick I have to agree but the 48 click bezel has the advantage for covering cities that have an N +- 0.5 hours that would be handy for my work. It's my main whinge with hand only GMT's that tend to move in one hour intervals.

They fixed the bezel. It's 60 click now. Hamilton also says it's a sapphire crystal- not mineral. Great watch and pretty versatile. The countdown timer bezel is super useful. But for the 38mm the included 18mm leather strap is pretty hard, thin and uncomfortable. Just got it and love it - but am searching for a more comfortable strap.

Too bad the regulation is so poor on the larger one. Those movements are capable of very fine timekeeping, When freshly serviced, they can be tuned to better than +/-2 seconds a day when regulated by a competent watchmaker.
