Thank you sir for this episode. Not everyone can afford Rolex or Tudors. To see you review and give a Hamilton watch your blessing is a good thing for the masses.

I have a Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic in 38mm with the black leather strap. I bought it earlier this year directly from Hamilton for $695 USD. It’s handsome, rugged, highly resistant to scratch’s or scuffs (8 months on of daily wear and it still looks brand new in fact). It keeps excellent time with virtually no loss of time, even over the course of a month. My only complaint is that the advertised power reserve of 40 hours is pure marketing. The true power reserve is about 20-24 hours. It short, it is a great looking watch if you like serious, sober looking timepieces with a refined military aesthetic. It’s also a highly capable and dependable automatic for its price. A great everyday watch that performs best when worn every day.

The power reserved should be 80 hours? Especially if it’s one of the newer models.

I recommend the tudor ranger, it was bought for me as a wedding gift by my wife. Its currently running 1.2sec slow a day, above cosc specifications. Its alot more money though. The other alternative is Christopher ward, they make some beautiful watches. They are also less expensive than tudor.

Rather less busy - take a look at their 38mm "Murph", as featured originally in the film Interstellar. This one crosses the field / suit & tie conundrum, it works as a dress watch much better than the all out Field Watch that is the Khaki. Good video & discussion Ash.

I got my Hamilton khaki Field auto 38mm about 5 years ago for my 30th it was my first automatic watch and hold close to my heart as it was a gift for a special birthday it is a great watch wasn’t a fan of the strap I currently have mine in a sentinel strap from uncle seiko which is a great upgrade for the watch I love this watch just as much now as I do when I got it 5 years ago, Great video

Hamilton yessir! Fantastic episode. I got my brother a 40 mm Khaki quartz 2 years ago. He´s not a watch guy, only wants this watch and loves it and not a word about it. But he´s a fragrance guy - he got me a Tom Ford Oud Wood eau de Parfume. Im not a fragrance guy - just love this only fragrance and not a word about it.

I have the 38mm and bought on a leather strap as I didn’t like the bracelet design with the split down the middle. I’ve recently bought an Uncle bracelet for it, around £80 with postage from USA to UK. I wear it with the bracelet more but still use the leather strap and a few different NATO straps too. It’s also worth asking for a discount, I got mine from WoS with a 20% discount. I’ve l had it for a year or so now, very impressed and sent me down a little Hamilton rabbit hole adding an automatic Ventura and a 42mm Murph since.

I wear a khaki field mechanical 38mm on the bracelet. It's perfect put on and forget. At a glance, when Ash and I met at the Gentlemens Gazette dinner in London in September, he mistook it for a Tudor. Such a gent Ash! Julian

Brilliant watch and one I intend to purchase at some point. Of course strongly tied to the US military where it was issued for a long period. Personally I will be buying it here in the US from Jomashop who are a grey market retailer, because it’s available for $555, or around £441 (I believe they do ship to the UK though import tax would apply). It’s a slight increase in risk on the servicing, but a big discount on the price. I’m also tempted by the hand-winding version which is slimmer but has a lower water resistance for some reason. Certainly the 38mm is the size to go for as the 42mm wears very large. All the best!

Superb watches! I've been sorely tempted by the 'Bronze Mechanical'; I like the idea of having to hand-wind the watch and the connection that process brings to the piece and to time. However, my lifestyle would require a great level of water resistance than the 'splash-proof' 50 meters - if it were 100m I'd already be wearing it. Another great video, thanks

Hi Ash, great vid as per, thank you. I've had my 42mm KFA for about 4 years now, and love it. Even with the slightly more full dial information it does sit well with everything from blazer, shirt and chinos, to jeans and shirt. The 42mm doesn't wear as big as you would imagine and sits fine on my wrist. Accurate, tough, and very sharp looking it's one of the best out there beating many more expensive brands in my humble opinion. Keep up the great work Ash. Ad Astra.

Love my Khaki Auto 38, it’s what gets most daily wear. Useful fact - if you don’t like the bracelet, it shares identical dimensions to the Seiko SARB017 Alpinist. I ditched the original bracelet for a stainless Jubilee bracelet with micro-adjust and it’s absolutely stunning 🔥

Good vídeo. I love a lot Hamilton..but maybe my chioce would be a Mechanical one. Hand winding. More historic reminds, it seems true a militar watch..And the model with bronze case is simply marvelous. Over time it acquires a patina that makes it unique.

I have the khaki field automatic 42 mm titanium. 7 inch wrist so it works great for me. I think it’s my least expensive mechanical watch by a longshot, but one of my favorites and gets a lot of wrist time. One of two Hamiltons I own. Don’t think you can go wrong with that choice.

Hamilton Khaki is a great watch but a bit overpriced at over £700, or $700. I would advise to get one on the used market for $400 or so. I wouldn’t worry about wearing with a suit. On a leather strap it looks presentable. The Seiko alternative to the Khaki is the Alpinist.

12:04 I have a Citizen Garrison eco drive with the blacked out dial and the black canvas strap. It is considerably thinner than many other 42mm cased watches, and doesn't feel quite as chunky as the numbers would suggest. For reference, I am a decidedly average American man at 5'10" and about 215lbs, or 178cm and around 98ish kilos... though I don't know the measure of my wrist.

I thought about a Hamilton but the H10 movement varies wildly in price depending on case etc. A basic model with the same movement is significantly cheaper. I bought a CWC mechanical (Mellor 72) for around £500 in the end as prefer the aesthetics and also has a quality movement. I also have a quartz Traser p59 essential with tritium dial which I'd highly recommend and significantly cheaper. Personally I think a NATO strap is more of a homage to a field watch.

Good afternoon Ash, I own too many watches in my wife's opinion. Several, like my GMT II are too expensive to be taken into the "field". Yes I know that many of the popular Rolex Tool watches are designed for uses other than telling the time therefore the moniker "Tool Watches". Here and now I am going to offend many people. Forgive me. My field watch of choice is capable of handling rough service. It is quartz powered therefore if it is one of two or three watches in my luggage it never needs winding. It has the 24 hour face. The face and band are a khaki colour. The date window is not magnified. Here we go!! It is a TIMEX INDIGLO model. Cost around $60.00 cdn on Amazon. No thief would even think about removing it from my wrist. If I damaged then off to the bin it would go (removing the battery first). The strange thing is because I hold it in such low regard it never picks up scratches.
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide 24 күн бұрын
The Indiglo is a superb choice sir and more in tune with my own leanings. I personally favour the Lorus field pieces in titanium, which present a similar look, and are also fiendishly affordable.

Dont like the Date Window. Their are many companys selling watches in this style for much less Money. If you dont daily wear the same watch i would recommend a quartz watch or at least a mechanical watch witch can be hand-winded. I even like the cheap timex more than the hamilton. Maybe the "Bulova 96A259" is an Option too. But of course: Everyone has to make his own decisions.

@@Frank-om4fc You exposed yourself that you know nothing about watches. Even Rolex has made a quartz watch. Their are very expensive watches with quartz movement. Most expensive Quartz Watch costs 55 Million Dollar. Their are very good reasons for a good qualitiy quartzwatch instead of a mechanical watch. If you dont wear it daily you have to wind them or redo the time and date settings. Quartz is more accurat, more shock resistant and so on. Very good models for acceptable prices: Longines Conquest V.H.P ~ 1000 Dollar Bulova Precisionist ~ 500 Dollar Grand Seiko SGBV207 ~ 2200 Dollar Citizen Chronomaster ~ 2200 Dollar But its not about the price. Its about quality, reliability, accuracy.

Swiss brand (was American at the beginnings) owned now by Swatch . But that means nothing, Hamilton is still solid for the auto entry level people or people that don't want to spend a fortune on an mechanical watch. Also Hamilton had a huge impact on popular culture , was worn in many American movies . I personally own 2 Hamiltons (not only) and the popular Murph which is missing from my collection it will come soon. Christmas. Cheers all the best

Personally, I think Hamilton is the most overpriced of the mainstream watch brands. I mean $1000 for quartz watch with a mineral crystal and a friction fit clasp is a total rip off for me. I don’t care if Elvis Presley used to have one at most that should be $400. Same with your tank style watch that they jack the price up just because it was in an Indiana Jones movie.

@ in my opinion that depends on if you’re able to get it at retail or not, and which model you’re getting. For instance, if you’re talking about the submariner, I 100% agree it is overpriced, especially compared to say the sea master professional, or the sea master 300 from Omega. But the oyster perpetual I think it’s fairly reasonably priced.
