A review of the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical. Model: H69419363.
A mechanical watch that is an homage to the field watches of Hamilton's past. Perhaps the best pure field style watch. Swiss made, with a Sapphire crystal.

Thanks!. They are great watches. One of the cool things about Hamilton, is as a collector, they are some of the most filmed watches in movies and tv. Even going all the way back to Elvis. So it can be fun to watch some of those tv shows and movies, and see a watch your interested in.

Just bought this watch with the upgraded movement which gives it 80 hour power reserve. This is my fist mechanical Watch and have truly enjoyed it. I really liked the olive green dial. At times it looks black, other times grey, and other times olive green. It gets the most wrist time among my collection. Im pleasantly surprised about how accurate this watch is. It’s about +2 seconds per day. Truly the best “value” watch one can get.

This is the first time I've actually went hunting for any kind of reviews on this watch. My great-grandfather left his son, my grandfather, his Hamilton 992b railroad pocket watch, which was left to me, and from there on I've always been most interested in Hamilton's history as that piece still ticks today, that's saying something. With this watch, I've daily wore it for a super long time, and it still gives me that fizz handwinding it. There's just something about winding a watch throughout my work day that gives me a time of reflection and to take a breath. The primary thing about this watch that I like, outside of it being mechanical, is how easy it is to read. It's not fancy. It's not bloated with a bunch of design markers or anything. I can take a glance at this watch, and bam, I've got my time. Watches today are primarily smart based for notifications and whatnot, but I still enjoy the yesterday of watches, reason I still daily this even today. I got mine for $260 on a sale, which is a lot of money for a watch in my book, but it has been worth it over these years. All the key points you had on here are quite in-depth, and they just made me cherish this piece even more. If I lost it, I'd go buy another tomorrow. :-)

Although Hamilton is not 100% Swiss due to its origins I fell in love with the brand, I have a Ventura Elvis80 Skeleton, a Matrix PSR MTX, an Intra-Matic Chrono and a few days ago I added the Khaki Field 50mm ltd 550 green edition to my collection. Btw you gave me a great idea for my 50mm review in your video ❤ Great video thank you! ❤

Love this watch. I'm a sucker for field watches, but this one in particular is really well done. I remember first seeing this when I just started with the whole watch bug and at the time wasn't comfortable spending three figures on a watch (that changed quickly ha) so I got the TImex Expedition Scout which is a dead ringer for this Hamilton.

I've seen them, but never really looked at the Expedition Scouts. But this is a very classic field watch look. I've been trying to find more field watches that sit price wise in between this and the Seikos. But surprisingly there inst a lot.

Good review as always. I picked up a 38mm version in black with the ETA 2804-2 movement. It’s kept time as well as my Khaki King auto but not as good as the Khaki King quartz by a small margin. All of them are very good regardless. I can not hear my watch ticking so I’m not sure what’s going on with yours. It runs just shy of two full days between winds and takes maybe 30 seconds to fully wind. No worse than shaking awake a sleeping automatic. These may be among the last chances to pick up a new Hamilton with a high beat movement. That lollipop second hand is a joy to behold as it makes its rounds smoothly around its track. I’ll admit to having a soft spot for Hamiltons but honestly this is a great watch. Thanks for the tip about passing on the green dial. The black is a strap monster.

Here's something I'd like you to review. I got myself this watch mainly out of curiousity, because I liked the field watch like look, and I was positively surprised. Timex typically, the second hand (gear) has too much play and the hand doesn't always hit the index markers, which is something I usually can't stand. But for an ordinary central second hand on a watch that is not a chronograph, that's not a big deal. Asides that, the shape and especially tip of the hands makes it precisely readable, the date window could be bigger though, the lume on the hands is ok, on the dial is none which isn't a problem as the watch has Indiglo - which was another argument to get the variation with the creme dial, other colous make it shine to weakly. The strap is very comfortable, smooth and hard to feel at all. What surprised me the most is the little deviation of the movement - only about +1.3 sec in over two months. Try to find this exact model on Amazon or eBay, from the UK or Germany if not found in the US. www.amazon.com/Timex-Expedition-Scout-Metal-Watch/dp/B00QMSQA80 www.amazon.de/Timex-Unisex-Armbanduhr-Expedition-Analog-NylonT49963/dp/B00HF49WXK www.ebay.de/itm/Timex-Mens-Expedition-Scout-Braun-Uhr-T49963-Uhr/222472271867

See I am really not much of a green dial fan. When I bought this watch, I did t realize that the dial was green because I’m an idiot. I like that this dial has some grey tones to it because it goes with more straps. It also looks different in different lighting. Sometimes you see grey, so,ego Ed you see green. Kind of like the new Midnight Green iPhone 11 Pro color.

I really like the drab olive dial colour. It looks more authentic to me in that colour. As for a totally mechanical movement, that sits well with me as well. I have watches with both mechanical and automatic movements and frankly, unless you are wearing an automatic watch all the time or placing on an electric winder, it’s going to run down eventually. Whereas with a mechanical watch, you simply pick it up and wind it. You just remember to rewind it at the same every day. Technically speaking, if you want an automatic watch, you have a great reason to buy a quartz watch instead and for a fraction of the cost and with less hassle.

I am digging that green face and olive green band. It is retro and is a flashback to the 1960s soldier watch. It is supposed to look like an old watch. It defeats the purpose to change the band. I never tried a mechanical watch so I can't comment about that. I was debating between this watch, Seiko Series 5 field watch and Citizen Eco-Drive BM8180-03E ($84.99).... I picked the Citizen because it looked better than the Seiko and it was much cheaper than the Hamilton. I am still interested in Hamilton.
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 5 жыл бұрын
The Hamilton is going to be a bit of an upgrade from the citizen in fit and finish. Although the bigger thing will be the sapphire crystal. Should help to reduce scratches in the long run. Although you could always swap the crystal in your Citizen to a sapphire one as well.

I have heard they are easy to service. But hopefully I wont have to experience that for a while. Relative Time I currently wear Victorinox Infantry Automatic w/ 2824-2 which runs around 15 secs faster per day, Hamilton uses 2804-2 handwinding movement of ETA. Both 28.800 beat movements, but you got absolutely better results when 2804-2 gets regulated by a watchmaker. Regular ETAs are less complicated than H-10 movements with 80 hours.

I have the black dial version and I mostly live it. The case is blasted and not brushed though I just thought I would point that out. To me it being a handwinding only is no negative. In fact t that is the whole reason I actually bought this watch. I was looking for a swiss handwinding, or mechanical, and this was the least expensive one, so I bought it. The lume sucks on these watches though. They only last for a few minutes before they go out. The hands are a little better than the pips though.

Have you seen the new no date version of this watch? Very nice on a new nato strap. I have the Seiko snzg in black and love that watch but no doubt the Hamilton is a step above. I maybe get one if my Seiko ever breaks which it probably won't. What is the water waiting? The Seiko if 100 meters but I am guessing the Hamilton is pretty much just for washing your hands and that is about it but I could be wrong.

I haven't seen it in person, but it looks nice. Hamilton is definetly a step above the SNZG. But the SNZG also costs about a third of a Hamilton. I bought this watch 12 days ago, received it 10 days ago, and returned it today. It quickly became my favorite watch in the collection ahead of my Omega Seamaster and Breitling Superocean but unfortunately the winding stem couldn't handle a typical wind and broke after 8 1/2 days. I know what you're thinking-- "you wound it too hard you jackass." I read the same reviews telling of the same issue and I felt the same way about those reviewers. But the fact is that I have mechanical watches from the 1960's that are as old as some of your grandfathers that have never broken from a simple wind. These Khaki Field Mechanical's really just are that brittle, and it's not a surprise really because it is a cheap watch. Everything else about it screams quality though and it's a real shame, I will miss it. I am giving Hamilton one more chance, however reluctantly, as I've purchased the Pilot Automatic Day Date just this morning. Let's hope this one's solid!

Unless the watch has a power reserve meter. You usually don't. Older watches you could damage by over winding. Most new watches have a mechanism to prevent this. Generally you just wind it about 20 or so rotations every morning. Maybe a little more in the Evening when you take it off. Hope that helps.

Relative Time thank you much. Seriously considering buying this watch for my daily.

No problem. It's a great watch, as long as you don't mind hand winding. But that also makes it nice and thin. Urban gentry also did a good review of the black dial version if you havent seen it. If your unsure about having a straight mechanical, and your not in any rush. You could always look at getting something like a Vostok Komandirskie first. They are fairly cheap, and give you a good idea if you can get into the habit of winding it every morning.

Which one should I get a Hamilton field Quartz or a Hand wound?
@RelativeTime
@RelativeTime 6 жыл бұрын
Between the two, I would say the hand winding mechanical. I like the dial of the quartz a little better. But generally speaking, the resale value of higher end quartz is horrible. So if you don't like it, or decided you want something else and want to sell it later. You should get more out of a mechanical. Also in the watch "enthusiast" community there is a fair amount of vocal people who hate quartz. Personally I like quartz for certain things. It's accurate, inexpensive, and convenient when you don't want to wind a watch yourself, or buy a winder. I also think a nice quartz watch is great as a gift for someone that isn't a "enthusiast", and just wants something nice that works. But I personal won't buy normal quartz watch for myself if it's over $200 US.

Hand wound, but make sure you know how to use one (don't break it).

Dislike the green but I do like the Hamilton. I had to settle for an SNK though

hand winding is the reason I bought this watch... Id consider it a pro (not a con). I find the weight/winder mechanism in my automatics distracting when every movement I make causes the thing to flop about, sometimes audibly... and it also adds 2-3 mm of thickness and additional weight. I'll take a mani wind Nomos or Hamilton over their automatic counterparts all day long.

The rotor doesn't bother me at all these days. I used to have a Seiko Kinetic... now that things rotor was loud. So everything else is quiet in comparison. Although I am starting to appreciate thinner watches. Which as you said, is where a mechanical has an advantage. Or potential advantage. Recently covered a kickstarter watch by Vario. Beautiful looking mechanical, but still kept it a little tall. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoqqo5eYfNl9nbs

All is well apart from the lug length and the space between the case and strap or creates. You could park a car in there, to me the whole design looks disconnected and flimsy.

It is a rather huge gap, not sure why. Makes it easy to put a thick nato on it, but that's about it.

I've had a few people tell me they love mechanical hand wind. That it's a zen like experience hat helps them prepare for the day. I am definitely not one of those people, but I can understand the appeal to those that are.

Damn that's ugly! Ridiculously long lugs, with crappy AR coating and horrible lume. Not to mention the most boring dial and an ugly dull finishing on the case. 🤢🤮
