Mercedes is locked into 4th in the constructors and not threatening any driver places above, so what does it benefit the team? This idea that they should prioritize race position and potential wins for a driver leaving in 3 races is silly, what other team would do that, do you see Red Bull doing that with Perez? Why wouldn’t you believe Lewis about his car? MB uses totally different strategies for his car compared to George’s such as tires, tire temperature, upgrades, floors etc… why? They are supporting Russell since he will be there in 2025. How would MB look if Lewis outshines George in 2024 and leaves for Ferrari? Lewis is still a great driver. His talent didn’t drop off that quickly. George finally has more points than Lewis after the Brazil GP even with sabotaging that has been going on all year. Three races left. It is common practice that leaving drivers are not supported as well as staying drivers. The leaving driver is not overloaded with information on the car anymore, so it’s a natural process. Schumacher was burning the midnight oil with his engineers and mechanics, spent days on end on the test track in Fiorano... while Hamilton deems even a bit of simulator work (the modern equivalent) beneath him? And never have we heard Schumacher blaming Ferrari when things went south in 2005. Man kept his head down and performed to the best of his abilities with the car and tyres he was given. The teams employ reserve drivers and even sim racers for a lot of that but there is no substitute for the race drivers getting into the simulator themselves as much as they can. Simulator testing is a crucial part of modern Formula 1 since track testing has been radically curtailed, its importance increasing evermore. Wind tunnel and computer simulation is pretty much all the engineers have at their disposal today. Heck, even Pirelli tyre tests and "filming days" are strictly regulated regarding the use of newly developed parts so the teams do not gain any valuable insights or advantages. You think the engineer sat Ferrari (and the other teams) don't use wind tunnels and computer models to develop their cars? ;)
