Hamilton Street Railway - The Electric Years - 1892 to 1994

The Hamilton Street Railway was one of the first electric streetcar systems in Canada. When electric trolley buses were retired in 1992, and the system dismantled in 1994, it marked the end of over 100 years of service. Rare 30s B&W film from Art Ellis & 50s colour film from John Mills capture the action. David Ashley’s 60s movies & Jeff Marinoff’s 70s movies chronicle the last days of the Can-Car Brill trolley coaches and the introduction of the Western Flyer ETBs.

I remember taking the Brill bus as a kid when there was standing room only. Remember, during the summer there was no A/C and people smelled very ripe on those hot humid days. Great video

Great video. And some of the last electric hsr trolley busses are still sitting at the Halton Radial Streetcar museum! Thankfully not quite all were lost to the scrapper.
