1950 and beyond military Jeeps had a 100 amp alternator system as an optional charging system. If you wanted to jump start tanks, you would use that to give the the tank a quick battery charge, and then a boost for starting.

Hello Hank, if you ever plan for a trip to Germany, how about a little detour to the Tank Museum in Munster? This facility is close to the Bergen - Hohne military exercise grounds in the North - West of Germany, and they have lots of WW II iron to crank, e.g. what about a Sturmgeschuetz (StuG) III, or a Skoda 38 (t)? Cheers, and keep on! Oh, I forget: riding a tank is also offered over here by some bloke somewhere east of Berlin; he's got tanks without turrets, and you must of course pay for the fuel, which is about 300 - 500 €, if I'm not mistaken.

The T34 is the ONLY WW II tank fitted with a Diesel engine! It was one of Hitler's weird decisions to have this same Maybach HL210TRM gasoline engine fitted on ALL German tanks! It's as weird as the fact that throughout the War the Luftwaffe never had a four - engine strategic, long - range bomber! Sadly, Adolf was so eager to start a war that he did it way before the Wehrmacht was to be ready for an armed conflict! The OKW put this readiness at 1941 or 1942, so up to three years after Hitler's attack on Poland. It could also have been 1945, but I'm not sure. This was a result of the Versailles treaty which caused a serious delay in the development of military key technologies, e.g. fighter planes! However, gasoline, unlike Diesel, was readily available in the 1940s, which counted against Diesel engines. And what came out of the refineries that made fuel out of coal was mostly gasoline, too!
