On batteries. There are two ways to connect more than one battery. One is "parallel" which is/ + to + and - to -. The other is series which is - to +. If both are 12 volt of similar size-- Series doubles the voltage from 12 to 24 VDC. Parallel doubles the available current . (amps)

Instead of using multiple batteries with somewhat "questionable" health with all of those jerry-rigged cables and connections, why not just put one good battery on the machine and run some jumper cables to the running truck? That way you'll get ~13-14 volts, and the truck's alternator will pump in any extra current needed to turn the Cummins over... Beats having four crappy batteries in parallel any day of the week.

Case Cummins CDC 8.3 were used in everything at one time and thats one of the good east moline made cotton pickers If memory serves its a 200 horse engine in that machine and the CDC engines were built in Whitakers, NC, USA and made engines for Case and the cummins B and C series and ISL engines .... CDC was phased out in 2008 and Fiat buying Case formed the European Engine Alliance which used the 8.3 as the Basis for the new line of engines under the Iveco Name for Fiat and CNH now use a 6.7 NEF and Cursor 9 ..

Stud those batteries with allthread and use wingnuts. You'll be able to utilize any wiring configuration and save the wear and tear on delicate lead. Ohms law is against you because of resistance and the length of your cables. Even 4AWG will have limitations and you'd be lucky to see 200amps at the starter with all that length. I bet you'd peg an ammeter at the starter posts. EDIT... LOL, damn.

The missing fuel line on the ground, maybe used to burn the wasps. That engine is a pain in the a## to work on, very difficult access. Battery heaven LoL ! That engine firing up on 4 out of 6 fuel lines was amazing, it sounded that the engine was part seized or the starter brushes completely worn out. Sometimes it is good to check the outer casing of the starter in this case, if that gets very hot, very quick, there is a lot of current going through the starter, as it tries to turn the engine. Great video as always. Good running 6-banger.

TECHNICALLY, Neither AMPS, nor VOLTS drop. The resistance increases. If left aver a long enough time, heat would damage the portion of the circuit that has the most resistance. Smart to clean all the fittings, that reduces resistance and allows the amps to get to the starter. ALSO, you can connect 12/24/36 volts and it will spin, but it is built for a certain voltage. Too many volts often damages a motor not built well.

You will probably want to re think your battery system, to save yourself a lot of grief in the future. I personally always liked to work with 8D batteries w/combination terminals. A practical setup for you would consist of all group 31 batteries, and removable post adapters. Use cables with lugs whenever possible, and get some real heavy duty jumper cables with 2/0 or larger wire, and not too long. Voltage drop with a 1200 amp load is horrendous. When trying to get one to crank, check voltage at the starter under load. You'll be amazed. For my money, welding cable makes the best battery cables, and seems to last forever. 30 years ago or so, I made myself a set out of 4/0 cable, scrounged from a scrap pile. Still have them. No clamps though, just lugs.
