I was interested to see how the joke about the voice cracking was handled when the players arrive. Originally it was directed to the boy actor Hamlet ironically calls a lady. (Because he played female roles.) Changing the gender so that the "lady" actor really is a woman is okay, I guess, even though I am no fan of gender-swapping roles, but the joke is probably better cut then. Even if, like here, it is directed to another male actor it becomes pointless, since it is totally unclear what is so bad about his voice cracking.

Thank you very much for watching the video and your sharp observations of gender swapping for particular roles. You've highlighted a very interesting point. In the context of our theatre group, the director cast members based on their expertise and also the balance of genders that are available for audition. I suppose it could be the same all over the world for any theatre group. thanks again for watching. You have a deep understanding of this particular play and we are grateful for your comments.
