Great Video! These definitely are great tools. We have been making these tools since 1992 at Make it Snappy Tools and they are one of our most popular items. The ones linked are not ours but they are a similar design. Very useful for all sorts of hardware. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!

CMT makes great ones and it holds a bit in the sleeve so you just pop a collar and flip it around to drive the screw. I think the #10 is the one for normal sized hinges.

Bought my first VIX bits over 10 years ago from Rockler. Works great for any hinge, door, piano, transferring hole patters onto jigsetc. Just make sure you use one that centers in the hinge hole, and is not bigger than the thickness of your screw. The drill bits are generally replaceable as well. .

Maybe a dumb question but: is there way to control/limit depth? We're all familiar with putting tape on a bit to control depth, and I'm trying to think of how you'd do that with these. I'd like to pick some up--but do need to control depth on my project(s).

Great info as I’m a beginner and redoing an old desk! How do i know what type and size screws to use with the new brass desk hinges I bought as I want the screws flush with the hinge? Thanks in advance! Love your videos!

Thanks so much. The Ryobi hinge router template comes with a self-centering bit but they didn't explain what it was for.

I picked up one of these at Home Depot that's made by Ryobi and it says it's for screw sizes #8 to #12. But the drill is one size so not sure it will work for all sizes between #8 to #12.

Using the smallest one in the set you recommended on Amazon, I noticed the nose that the bit comes through has no taper to center the nose guide into the hole of the T-hinge I'm using for my cabinet. Shouldn't it be tapered like the rest? The bit size is already smaller than the recommended pilot hole size on the hinge package. Suggestion?

It allows you to remove the bit when you need to change it out.

Should be mentioned that....while hinge drilling is the perfect potential problem, there are also MANY other types of hole drilling where this remedy makes sense. Doesn't come in handy JUST for hinges! :)

i think the jinges sound to small for this tool. probably better off using a Awl, or something with a point to help centre your screws

I bought a set of the bits that you linked to about a year ago and today I just dumped them in the bin because they were garbage. However, the bits that you used in the video looked like they were better quality than the set I bought so I don't know what happened. Typical Chinese inconsistency I guess. Do you know of any no-Chinese manufacturers?
