This was one of the best detailing videos I’ve ever seen , probably the best. What made it so great was 1) your personality 2) someone that actually finally did a thorough problem solving video. This is the part of paint correction people don't talk about. Often I see new detailers entering the industry & already offering paint correction & wanting to charge what the guy who's been doing it for 3+ years is charging but don't realize you need more than a da/rotary, pads & compound to make a car look beautiful. Great job chelsea

I have to add, Your mentality on paint correction is spot on. Love your attitude towards the reality of dealing with people's daily drivers and not garage queen car show vehicles. Even though I have been detailing for own cars for 30 yrs, I love learning new ways to work smarter not harder to keep my vehicles looking their best while being realistic at the same time. Your videos are helping me with this struggle.👍👍

By far your best video as far as just showing the struggle that you can come across in correction. It’s especially good for those detailers that think they can only stick with 1 brand of compound and polishes because what works on one car might not on another.

Chelsea, when you were sitting on the side of the car staring at it in frustration, I think ALL of us professional detailers felt that 🤣 I’ve lost count of how many one steps I’ve turned into 2 steps because I needed the extra finish. Beautiful work as always!

At the shop I worked at, 99% of the time, for any correction scenario, we used 5 things. Sonax perfect finish, Jescar correcting compound, Rupes yellow foam, Meg's microfiber, and Lake country thick red foam finishing pads. Whether it be a 2 step, single stage, or enhancement, those 5 products either met, or exceeded the expectations that were given to the customer. 60+ for single, and 80+ for two step. Most of the time for singles, we were getting 80+, and two step were darn near perfection. That last 1% were rare instances where we'd have to go to a Rupes blue/yellow wool, or Carpro essence.

Once again you share your transparent emotions and issues detailers go through and you keep it real. Our eyes are 100x more observant than 90% of your day to day client. It's hard to separate the customers content than the detailers. You said the video is long, I don't think so. The longer keeps it real sharing what a good detailer goes through. It's frustrating being a detailer it's like being in the Army as an NCO I would see all the dirt, and the little things when doing inspections. As a detailer we must have our own realistic expectations and like you stated a 50% improvement for the amount of time and the budget of the customer. It was painful to see your frustration but you are a Professional and want to give your client the best results for their money. I have to tell myself that the client's carpet, paint, interior shampoo can only get so clean and I have to limit my expectations. Keep up the hard work and Thank you for the video!

The butter soft paints of KIA and Hyundai usually need a 2 step. If the budget is tight a 1 step finish process works excellent with the White or Yellow Rupes pad in combination with CarPro Essence. Crystal clear paint and already prepped for a coating.

Wish I could show you but I'm not sure how to put a photo of my 12 year old car on KZbin. It's on Instagram and Paul from Miranda Detailing gave me a thumbs up. This was absolutely invaluable. Thank you. In December (my last polishing job of the year), I had a flat red Golf GTI with similar coverage of defects to surface area as your Elantra but many years more of drive-thru wash swirls. It’s uncanny, your experience was nearly identical and I just had to dial it back. Anything more aggressive than Rupes Yellow and Sonax Cut & Finish was leaving hazing/micro-marring. And not even getting that much more cut tbh. It broke me 😅 They were over the moon but I think they wanted more swirl removal. The price I charged is still tugging at me a couple of months and customer has gone dark (we’d previously agreed to do his other car). It was a one step correction process with set budget. I spent too much time on test spots and going crazy haha. I spent the entire day on it and make no mistake, I put the work in! 2022 was a great year for polishing for me with excellent results. And this one just upset the Apple cart! Anyway, your video was brilliant. We need more of this. God bless 🙏🏻

I admit I do model my business towards and attract more of a clientele that is looking for and does appreciate multiple step corrections. With that said, I am 100% with you on this. Even in my business I have often suggested he or she may be happy with a single stage. Or I have said lets hold off on the two step until the next time I polish the car, for us both to see where things stand with their new wash habits and how they feel about the paint afterwards. I definitely appreciate how open and human in these situations. It really brings to light what we go through to provide a quality service for our clients. You're awesome!

Regarding your past Turtle wax Ceramic Acrylic Black polish that using a damp microfiber towel after the polish helps a lot that's what Pan, Miranda and Turtle wax suggest. I myself don’t usually give a percentage of swirls and scratches to be removed because you never know how hard that will be to achieve(as stated in your video) I usually just say that we can polish it to give the paint a deep clean, remove some light imperfections and prep it for the coating. What is a struggle when you want things to look their best is to remember you are not really "Correcting" the defects in the pain. You are removing clear (2 stage) to remove the defects. So you have to realize how perfect you want the finish to be? No coating on the market can take the place of the Factory Clear. If you chase every imperfection you may compromise the clear. Its a constant battle of the wits on determining what products to use to get the defect removed, but not going over board. I always like to ask professional detailers (just a DIYer here for many years) what products they like to use on certain types of paint. Mainly DIYers don't have the variety of products on hand or knowledge. It saves money and time by asking people that do this stuff everyday. Common sense goes a long way here.

Great video! I cheat. When I get a car like that, I ask my customer to wash the car and only paint correction. I work within 5 hour, no two hours on that type of car. I do a 50/50i microfiber pad with D300 and finish with a microfiber polishing pad and most of the time an AIO. And top it with a good sealant. One thing that makes this process work is that I use a 8mm throw polisher. The cut on the is very minimum. There not much loss of clear coat. Oh yeah, I will like some of that home made Spaghetti. 😁👍👍

Sometimes when I start thinking about this battle I start to wonder if it'd be a better use of my time doing a super quick more aggressive pass or two tops (I mean sensibly aggressive), and expecting the haze or micro marring is just going to have to be handled by a second step to refine it. I just start to do the math in my head even though I know it doesn't actually workout this way and think: "okay well if I'm doing 4-5 passes with this specific combo to get an acceptable result, how is that going to be so much different than 2 passes with this step and 2 with another step? But I know in those times I'm also purposely ignoring other parts of the equation just to feel less frustrated.

Man…. I felt all that stress in the video. I’ve tried a lot of things and strangely come back to 3D one. Oily but it’s a staple that works well on most paints, unless it’s super hard paint. Looks incredible !
@dustin37002 жыл бұрын
Your 1st test spot far exceeded 50% correction and clarity, that's where you stop especially if the next step up gives you issues, you just add a pass to get more correction. Micro marring can be from a squishy pad like a thick or pliable black or yellow pad. That's why rupes changed the design of there pads. Also cycle time can be adjusted (usually shorte) to help with marring.

It would have cut nicely but marred badly requiring a second step. 95 or 100 correction on anything other than a brand new, high end vehicle is so much harder to achieve than most people will ever understand. 60 to 80 percent on a somewhat newer vehicle in good condition is one thing. Perfection is a whole different universe. Your prices are phenomenal by the way. Around me in Palm Beach FL you're looking at quotes of $1000 to $2500 for any sort of correction / Enhancement and a coating. And that " Correction" is going to get you 75 to 85 percent depending on the before condition.
