Nice finds there 👍, The little acorn piece looks like an end fragment of a medieval strap end.

Hi Tom, the little acorn looking artefact at 11 mins into the video looks very much like a knop (finial) from the end of a spoon handle. I was researching a pewter spoon bowl I found the other day and saw something similar. Thanks for the videos by the way. Rich.
@TheDiggerofDorset Жыл бұрын
Thanks Rich, someone else suggested it could be part of a strap end. After a bit of research it could be either 🤣 ill have to retrieve it from the shed and have another look lol thanks for watching mate 🙂👍

Whoooaaa. Imagine the people who had that roman coin in their pockets or purse. I wonder how much wore over the years in the ground or if 1,000,2,000 years ago if the sides were legible. Wow.... that is amazing man. Congrats!
@TheDiggerofDorset Жыл бұрын
Thank you buddy, it really was a strange feeling. Cleaning it and holding it, then realising the last person to hold it was a 'roman' looking out over the same landscape, kind of eerie lol. Also found in the same field as the Celtic bronze stater, the Durotiges tribe that stater belonged to were known to have fought the invading Romans. Fascinating history being pieced together 🙂

Hi mate, Ive not been that far north so wouldn't have been me. Had to check Google maps to see where it was 🤣 I'm usually found in the fields of Dorset unless tempted by a group dig (rare these days) or invited some where else 👍🙂

Just seen the id. I was right! I’ve found a couple but not as nice condition. My bucket list is a Bronze Age axe head or Saxon or a stater. Any will do.
@TheDiggerofDorset Жыл бұрын
Yep, was a nice coin! Bronze age axe head has been at the top of my list for awhile now. I have held a few and there is just something very special about them. Heading back out tomorrow to look for deeper targets with the Detech, fingers crossed 🤞
