“Hammersmith Is Out” (1972), certainly is a cinematic oddity. Directed by Peter Ustinov and starring himself as doctor of a hospital, as well as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, the movie is said to be one of the most unusual projects Taylor and Burton could have agreed on - maybe that's why they did. The mixture of the plot contains parallels of Goethe’s Faust and (yet to be produced) “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest” (1975) (especially its dark humor)… and it works. Musical accompaniment was given by established composer Dominic Frontiere, who had very fruitful years during the 60s and 70s. For “Hammersmith” he goes full 70s and a fun ride it is. Enjoy!

Great post Fred! I had not heard this "groovy" Dominic Frontiere score before. One of my favorite Frontiere scores is for Cleopatra Jones & The Casino of Gold. Keep groovin' Fred!

I have known of Dominic Frontiere since the 70s..he also composed the theme of Vega$, a TV show with Robert Urich. Great sound by the way

Grazie Fred❤ I didn't know Dominic Frontiere, but this music of his is cool.👍🏻 Crazy comedy and unusual variation on the theme of “Faust”. An attempt at satire towards the consumer society. At the Berlin Film Festival, Elizabeth Taylor was awarded the Silver Bear and Peter Ustinov nominated. In Italy, the film is called "Una faccia di c..."

Hello, Fred! Dominic Frontiere 's albums outside of cinema showed a certain affinity with the style of colleagues Mancini and Riddle. Several times, within cinema, this also happened in films such as " Billie "(1965), " Popi "(1969) and " Hammesmith is Out " _ in this case with a parameter that's very difficult to measure, but... Even when the films didn't do well at the box office, the music worked on the screen and, because it was " fashionable ", it sold in stores. Despite greater abilities ( " Outer Limits ", " Hang ' Em High " ), for Frontiere it seemed to be enough. On the other hand, what would have led Burton & Taylor to go from " Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf " to " Hammesmith is Out ", frankly I don't know. Maybe trauma... Thanks and bye!!

This one is right up there with BOOM! on the list of cult Liz and Dick film ventures. Unlike BOOM!, this one is hard to see and has never really seen the light of day in high definition, and that's a shame because it's funny. The soundtrack is what I'd call groovy 70's easy listening and it's a fantastic collection of music cures, including a rather melancholy love song for Liz's trailer-trash character. Fontiere's soundtrack albums were all good back in their day, so check them out if you have a chance. Thanks for pulling this one out of the vaults.
