I know I'm really late to this thread. I purchased my SIG Sauer P226 MK-25 9mm Luger pistol, used, from Sportsman's Warehouse, in North Phoenix, AZ, in late 2015. Mine came all stock, except it came with the Short Reset Trigger already installed. I paid $730 for it. Since then, I've swapped out the original steel Siglite Tritium Night Sights for steel Trijicon HD tritium night sights with the rear sight U-notch - they have a little higher profile than the original Siglites. I've replaced the original plastic P226 grips with a much more aggressive grippier set of G10 grips. I've also replaced the original OEM factory stock trigger shoe with a Grayguns, Inc. 2-Way Adjustable Straight Trigger. This is a great great pistol. Smooth, highly accurate, flawlessly reliable, and so very well made. I love it. It's the one pistol I own that I'll never sell or trade away. It will stay with me until my time on this Earth is done, at which point it will go to my son. Good things! 👍

You forgot a few things. The Legion has more of an undercut trigger guard, so your hand can sit higher and tighter on the grip. Also the frame rails are completely different. The Legion has the typical Sig frame rail whereas the MK25 has the milspec picatinny rail.

as an owner and shooter of the same SIG P226 for 30 years now I will offer just a few insights. Yes, I paid about $ 1,000.00 for mine back in the mid-late 1980's. It fits a full size " mans hand" best. It is a bit heavy. Mine has had very few firing problems, all appear ammo issues. I've shot maybe 6,000 - 8,000 rounds thru it. I only purchased factory magazines. Because of neglect and usage some of the original blueing is worn away and some is ruffed up. I have never adjusted the original setting of the sights. The Double action trigger pull is an effort, and the single action has more travel than modern pistols. The factory trigger springs and mag springs have NOT relaxed over the past 30+ years. No replacement parts have ever been installed into/ onto this gun. I over oil and over lube the slide and innards when I do clean it. The Springfield SD is about 80% as good as this pistol. This Sig P226 has always been my "go to" home defense pistol. Additional pistols I own, Ruger SR9, Bersa Thunder 380, Browning Buckmarks, Ruger 41 magnum Single Six, Beretta 9mm.

People never give that curve to the x-ray rear sights enough credit. It really changed the sight picture and makes lining up that front sight much more natural and easy. They're fast but very accurate sights. The large block on the rear of sight of the mk25 is more traditional but not as good.

I have a P229 Legion chambered in .357 Sig. It’s a tank. Heavy enough to make it feel like you’re shooting a 9mm. I don’t own any other Sigs so I can’t speak on comparison but the Legion is a fantastic weapon.

Thank-you. If you are wanting the Legion for what it is (a cool looking high-end special-edition Sig) and don't intend to use it hard, it would likely hold up quite well for you. If you were wanting it as a major upgrade over a P226 or P226 MK25 then you can likely save a few bucks and get a great gun.

The newer Legions don't have the finish issues that the early models did and this guy is wrong in my opinion about the trigger. I have a MK25 that I installed an SRT kit on as well as a Gray Guns straight trigger and competition spring pack on and the trigger isn't anywhere near as nice as the one on my Legion P226. The reset is unbelievably incredible! The DA pull is smooth and breaks clean without hitting that wall that some do right before it finally breaks and fires. And the SA is crisp and breaks like glass at 4lbs, I dare say even slightly less than 4lbs. Like I said I have both the guns and I carry my Legion and the biggest reason is the trigger. I have an earlier Legion and mine has issues with the PVD finish wearing/rubbing off due to daily carry, which a gun at this price point shouldn't have. I'm having it cerakoted for just the cost of the materials so it will give me the chance to have it done in two tone which I really like. I wouldn't hesitate one bit on the Legion over the MK25 especially now that the have fixed the PVD finish problem.

Sorry but this is no question. You simply get more features on the Legion than the MK25. It's more of a question of which is worth your money more and if you want one frame over the other. The Mk25 is basically a base model P226 that has OEM polymer grips, anti-corrosion coated internals, a 1913 rail, an engraved anchor and the UID label. That's about it, both have 3 mags. SIG should've offered the MK25 with SRT as standard like the M11-A1 so that you don't lose the coating in the internals once you make the swap. It's a well-made gun and a great performer, no doubt. But far from being the best variant out there. Legions have a "lesser" finish, but its got that elite beavertail (legion medium sized) frame with the checkering (plus under the trigger guard checkering), SRT as standard, elite slide with front cocking serrations, xrays, g10 grips and an overtravel adjustable trigger. Definitely more features, but the trigger shoe itself isn't even the best being that there are dual adjustable triggers out there too. Coin and case is a plus too, I guess. Best thing to do would be to probably get the variant that has the features you want for the best price (there are more sub-models anyways) and make it yours. Both are solid stock guns, but have very great potential with SIG's aftermarket support now coming alive.

I have a 226 legion sao, in 2016 i put 15,000 rounds thru it, no failures, and the trigger is superior to any other, even gray Guns say they cant emmulate it. after the 15,000 i put a new recoil spring, and it keeps on going. wear on the outside is minimal. if you are going to get one, of the two, go for the 226 legion sao. the trigger is the $500 difference. the shooting comparision of 9mm vs 357 sig is not a good comparrison.

I just bought the SAO Legion... all this talk about finish wear had me worried. I like my guns to look nice. So, after 15k rounds, your finish still looked good ? I don't plan to holster it so, hopefully that was the main problem that most people had.

Even Grayguns said they cand emulate it? Lol you know thats literally a Grayguns trigger in your Legion, right? Ever shot a fully worked over GGI pistol? They're outstanding, the Legion is just a well done nice TDA trigger, a full GGI is something else!
@corey640
@corey640 5 жыл бұрын
Well, Grayguns has two triggers, non-adjustable (which I believe he was wrong and the Legion comes with), and the double adjustable trigger for $10 more ($60) I think. Also, the difference isn’t $500. I think currently a non RX (which I’d kill for) Legion is $1428 msrp, and the Legion case alone is worth paying an extra $100 for, plus the finish, better night sights, SRT, and the Grayguns trigger. Well worth the extra $300 or so I think it is over a MK25. Either way, I’d prefer my DA/SA 226 Legion, but thats a personal choice. As long as it isn’t that DAO bullshit, which I don’t think they even offer the Legion with. Lol

This is my first SIG,. My first gun was a gen3 G19 - I do love that gun but the SIG is just far superior. Both really nice guns. I would worry about the finish holding up as well on the Legion. I KNOW Nitron is good to go. But damn it is beautiful. I have the Mk25, but I put SRT, the GrayGuns P-SAIT Trigger, and a GrayGuns solid steel FAT black guide rod in it, and man, once you get the overtravel screw set just right on that P-SAIT plus the short reset of the SRT, and dang that reset is quick! And the trigger pull is very smooth too. The only things I like better about the Legion is the frontstrap contouring and checkering, and the grips. Id be happy to own either though.

I have also seen the solid slide tube (recoil spring below barrel) mentioned on the Legion, versus the hollow tube on other Sigs. This important...or, much ado about nothing? I've also heard the Sig "Select" series gives the best of both. Great G10 grips (nice color IMO), low profile controls, great SRT, while...skipping the PVD, extended beaver tail, and the glow front sight (you can add later). The Select also features the Nitron proven coating, and comes with 2 USA-made magazines. No medallions or club membership, tho. Several hundred dollars less too...

The guide rod takes relatively little stress, it really does just "guide" the spring. Solid rods do add a little weight up front but in my testing it has little or no impact on recoil.

I could live with the Legion though I'm not a fan of John Browning designs. The military screwed up getting the 320, if they had to have Sigs it should have been the 226. But since they don't know how to shoot or maintain guns, that plastic throaway thing was probably a good choice.

Despite all comments about trigger, controls and finish the legion remains "only" another special edition of the sig p226. The mk25/sig p226 navy on the other side is the iconic gun of the navy seals, used and abused everywhere in the world. These two firearms are clearly quite the same gun, but the mk25 has the rugged charm of an old warrior that the legion and other "special edition guns" will never have.. mk25 for me! no doubts..

As far as I’m aware, the MK25 doesn’t come with the Grayguns trigger, nor does it have an optional RX model with the Romeo1, which makes for a near perfect gun out of the box, which speaking of, when you buy and register your Legion, comes with one HELLA nice case they send for free compared to the cheap plastic bullshit of every other P226 model. I have the DA/SA .40 Legion with a SilencerCo 9mm threaded barrel, and wish it was an RX, but other than that, it’s probably one of my top 3 favorite guns I own, which is a three way tie between the Legion, FN Five-seveN, and even though it’s not even remotely similar, my M&P 15-22P. I’d take the Legion ALL day over the MK25. You’d just have to feel it in your hand with the G10 grips, 25dpi checkering, and larger beaver tail to understand how great it feels compared to a typical P226.

i have a 1995 P229 in a 40SW (paid 885$) and I was considering selling it and getting the NAVY or the Legion, checked them both out and I decide to get the conversion 9mm kit, I am extremely happy that I did that (money wasn't an issue) I used to have a P226 and I like the compactness of the P229 better, it fits better in the hand, the Legion in either 226 or 229 slide release was a deal breaker for me (bad move if you ask me) and the trigger on the Legion wasn't all the different than the older made in Germany lower which is what was selling back then. So who cares if you have a anchor or a logo on it, if your concealing it no one is going to tell the difference, it's all individual preference ...SIG makes good firearms...thank you for sharing

I was just revisiting various 226 videos and had not seen this one before. Having/had the MK25, an Extreme and a 229 Legion I just like the MK25 best. Not that it's better than the others and was lacking a few pieces the other two came standard with, being better grips, different night sights and a standard trigger vs the SRT trigger. I installed the SRT in the MK25 and it was actually shorter reset than the two that came factory with that trigger. I like the larger white dot night sights being they're easier to pick up quickly for me. The best grips of the three are on the Extreme. They are G10 multi color and look fantastic as well as having a grippy surface without being too abrasive. I ended up letting the 229 Legion go due to it not using the same magazines as the two 226 use. Had three, wanted to keep only two so that's how it went. They're all top notch and would easily make great SHTF or "If I could only have one" guns.

I think the reason for the pin hole on top the Legion slide is for the different extractor. The short extractor on the MK25 is machined steel, the Legion is MIM. Most MK25s came with a chrome lined barrel and a exterior phosphorus coat, but not all.

Back in the day when I started shooting competition the standard handgun was a double action revolver, there were all kinds of custom gunsmiths who could smooth out and action so you didn't even know you pulled the trigger. The real test of a great trigger was to place a dime flat on top of the front sight and try to dry fire six times without the dime falling off. I now shoot a lot of Sig Sa/da semi autos, I have and old 9mm West German 226, a 40 S&W 239 and 229 and a 227. My first and favorite is my 226, I only paid $500 for it used in 1990, but it's the only one the will pass the dime test. It probably has at least 100k rounds through it with never a failure! Thinking it was time to retire my 226 I tried a new Legion yesterday, it felt so good I was ready to buy it, but it couldn't pass the dime test. Guess there's a lot to be said for old world craftsmanship!

A few years ago I bought a P226 MK25 and a P229 Elite Stainless both in 9mm. After shooting them both side by side at the range 3 or 4 times I sold the MK25. The wood grips on the P229 Elite stainless were more comfortable and for some reason the P229 always shot more accurately. The P226 MK25 wasn’t inaccurate but in comparison the P229 Elite Stainless was more accurate and more comfortable for me. I sold the MK25 and a Beretta 92G Elite and just held on to the P229. The Legion looks nice, I wonder if it shoots any better or if I would find it more comfortable than the MK25. I may pick up a couple more Sigs and see if I prefer one.

I'll have the MK25. Sig struck out on the Legion finish. The nitron is a better finish. The other differences aren't enough to matter.

I find the P226 9mm legion's reset to be very short when compared to my other p226s(MK25, Combat, P226 Navy, classic (made in W Germany no rail) with SRT installed. I really like the P226 SRT but personally I like my legion's trigger the best. I think it's almost a case by case comparison that is very subjective. I suggest that if someone is considering any of the other Sigs vs the legion is to try them, if you can, side by side. Not always possible I know.

I have carried a P226 stainless 9mm on duty for about a year and have had minimal wear from a duty holster. The trigger is standard without the SRT. Not a bad gun and definitely my favorite pistol. I now have a Sig Legion 226 9mm. I will say only having it on duty for a month, there is significant wear on the front of the pistol where the logo is. Very unfortunate for an expensive pistol. The grips are a good balance between the larger grips and the E2 styled grips which are a little too small for my hands. The SRT in the Legion is good though. Its a great pistol over all but at the price point, your probably better off getting a standard 226 and putting the SRT trigger in it yourself with whatever grips suit you.

I'm really surprised to hear him say the standard SRT trigger is better than the one on the Legion. I have a Mark 25 that I installed a SRT trigger kit on as well as a Gray Guns straight trigger and a competition spring pack from Gray Guns which includes both the 17X and 19X mainsprings, uprated firing pin return spring, new-style competition safety lock spring, and competition sear spring. And with all that I've done to my MK25 it's not as nice as the trigger on my Legion P226. The reset is incredible and the double action pull is smooth as silk without that feeling of hitting a wall before it finally breaks and the single action breaks clean at 4lbs. I've never felt a better trigger on any Sig I own or have ever tried, competition Guns or pro shop guns excluded. My only complaint is the PVD coating isn't all that great. It's nice if you just go to the range but for daily carry it runs off a lot easier than it should for a gun at that price point. I've read that newer models aren't as prone to this problem as the early Legions but still shouldn't happen. I'm having my cerakoted which will take care of that and give me the two tone look I prefer.

They are fantastic handguns in that caliber... I only wish I had been able to shoot it before my son chose it from a total of 12 semiautos that I own as his 21st birthday present. He was nice enough to allow me to shoot a few rounds from it. I think it is the perfect gun, perfect weight, perfect balance and with 40 S&W it has that extra punch that 9 just doesn't have.

Salty Steel I own both, a MK25 and. Legion P226 DA/SA and even with all the work I did to my MK25 (SRT kit, Gray Guns straight trigger, Gray Guns competition spring kit etc.) the trigger is nowhere near as nice as on my Legion. The standard trigger on the MK25 is not as good as it should be for a gun at that price point. But seriously, you prefer a gun because the Seals use it? The 226 is just what they are issued, most of those guys carry a variety of different guns other than Sig. There are two Seals in the church I go to and both of them say a lot of guys they worked with prefer HK's, Beretta's, 1911's and CZ's, and those guys get what they want.

If you are choosing a gun because “the SEALs use it”, you should probably rethink your priorities. I’ve heard that if you buy a 226 MK 25, you will have a sudden urge to write a book and sell fitness supplements... Lol, you can’t go wrong buying either of these though.

I own the MK25 and my son owns the 226 Legion .229 Legion and SAO Legion......his 229 Legion has about 2000rounds thru it and the finish is starting to fail.....its going back to Sig( excellent Customer Service) and they are giving him a new gun. On my MK25 I put G10 grips on it and my son is going to do the SRT for me. All in all if I was going out now to buy....It would be the 229 Legion ( nicest gun I ever shot) however I haven't shot the SAO Legion but my son says thats the best of all

Check your Sig guns for seized seer pins in the frames. This is a manufacturing error and there is no effort to fix it. Sig is no longer the German company. It is now American and comes with American manufacturing issues.

The Legion Sao can most definitely be a c.c. Gun especially with the Legion blackpoint holster. That’s how I carry mine quite comfortably. The holster carries high & snug against the body. Need good gun belt to make it work. Also the Legion p220 sao works in the same holster, so only 1 holster needed.

How does the legion differ from the elite?
@nursesteve12
@nursesteve12 5 жыл бұрын
I have both guns in 9mm. Most of the differences are cosmetic. the decocker and slide release is small on the Legion and difficult for me to use. I have preferences with some of the details for both guns but I lean just a bit toward the Mk 25. If you can afford a Sig than you can afford to pay the difference if you want a Legion. The short recoil trigger is a bit faster but I always release the trigger all the way before the next shot. I have owened Sigs since Browning first started importing them from Germany and they all shoot well. A normal shooter won't be able to shoot one out. Get the one that fits your hand.

IMHO if you're a sa shooter, get the Legion in SAO 9mm, if you're da shooter, get the MK25 in 9mm with SRT pkg. I'm a sa shooter and the trigger on the Legion SAO is just as good as any high dollar 1911. As far as looks and beaver tail, that's personal preference. I prefer the G10's on the Legion. No issues with PVD finish. No "thin spots" on tac rail or trigger guard and no wear on finish. I believe the finish issues were with earlier produced Legions. Seems like Sig finally got that figured out. If you preference doesn't matter between sa or da, then you can't really go wrong with either one.
