My situation is just like yours...NO warm/hot water in the barn. I REALLY appreciate this helpful video!!! 🤩

I started taking hot bleach water back out to the barn after milking. It was such a headache. I started doing it this way and it saves time and muscle power. Great video.

Catscratch Farms it took so long to haul everything back out to the barn. Nearly defeated the time saved by the machine.

This is the milking system we use: www.hoeggermilkingsystems.com/shop/hoegger-dual-35lb-goat-machine We were asked to do this video because cleaning milk equipment can be daunting when you are new to machine milking. Remember, the cleaner your equipment, the cleaner your milk, the better your cheese. Now go watch some of those cheesemaking in Transylvania videos to see that you can make good cheese with even the most rustic of equipment! 😂

I have the gallon mason jar milker from Dansha Farms and in one of their youtube instructional videos they advise not using soap or bleach because it will cause the plastic tubing to harden over time. Do you feel that to be true? Have been just using white distilled vinegar. Also, where did you get your nice long dish gloves? Love ALL your videos!

Shannon Seiffert I have never had issue with my lines hardening. My friend cones from a commercial dairy background and they are required to run Clorox through before each milking. I can’t imagine they’d require that if it ruined the lines. We replace our lines at the beginning of each season. This year I switched to the silicone lines. They are thicker walled but more flexible and seem to repel the milk. I am liking them. Thanks for watching!

Dansha farms doesn’t use silicone lines. Pretty much all of the branded bucket milkers will use food grade silicone lines. That being said. I use a vacuum claw cleaner to clean my milker lines. Works very well. U hook up any lines u want cleaned and it cycles the water thought it.

Do you do this regiment twice a day, every time you milk? This does seem cumbersome. We have always hand milked, but my MIL can’t milk enough with her arthritis, so we bought a machine. However, I’m now so intimidated by the cleaning! 😯

If milking with two lines do you have a milk filter on each line into the bucket or do you combine them somehow to only use 1 filter. I have a bucket milker 2 goats was wanting to add inline milk filter and a milk meter, not sure how best to do this.

I love that you made this video! Thank you. Totally off the subject question. I’m using siggis as a starter for my yogurt. I use your process with the instapot etc. I thought last time I maybe used too much starter so this last time I was very careful to measure. My yogurt always comes out gummy though. Almost presents ribbons when you lift a spoon out of it. I hope that’s descriptive enough. Any thoughts?

Jaime Nieto it’s normal for the whey to be a bit thick. Do you drain yours?
@rubygray77495 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I had this problem when I started making yogurt, it got to a slimy stage but never really thick. Yuk! So I contacted the supplier of the yogurt culture, who told me that my incubation temperature was too low. One of the cultures was working at the low temp, but the culture that thickens the yogurt, needed more heat. So if I find that my yogurt turns out like this now, I increase the heat a little and give it another couple of hours. I now get wonderful thick yogurt. Carefully spoon the set yogurt into a fine strainer after it has cooled down, without breaking up the structure, and allow it to drain for really thick Greek style yogurt. Or just make a few vertical cuts through the jar of set cooled yogurt, leave for a few hours, then carefully pour off the whey. The Indian method is to first simmer the milk to reduce it by half its volume before adding the culture, to make sure it is thick.
@jnwgatap5 жыл бұрын
HammockHavenFarm hi! Yes, I do. Usually for a few hours. I notice that after about a week the yogurt becomes a little more normal in texture. It’s plenty thick too.

Which system are you using? I have a belly pale and I'm getting junck in my milk when I have to dump it after every 2 goats.
@HammockHavenFarm5 жыл бұрын
Cedar Gait Farm that’s what I started with but we just have too much milk for that now. I bought the 35lb pail setup from Hoegger to add to my existing system. Then we started having too much milk to fit in one pail so I bought a second.
Wow thats really the hard way. I worked on an goat dairy and they used an bucket of water with bleach and vinegar and sucked it through just like milking and then dump. I have my own milker set up and do the same with only 2 goats. Your way take forever milking twice an day.
