Hi there. It is so helpful to see a home farmer do this. It is good for me to see what can happen during a blood draw. The moving of the goat, the amount of blood, etc. Thank you so much! I will probably be drawing blood on my one year old next week for his first CAE test. Thank you for taking time to film this.

Chad Free good luck! I’m so glad this helped. There is a little bit of a learning curve with it. Don’t be worried if you mess up the first few times.

I like 1/2 inch needles better, too. I worry about what I might accidentally stick through with a long needle if the goat is wiggly, and also worry about the needle bending or breaking off.

Your goats are beautiful. I have LaMancha's too. I am breeding for mini's now. The last two years were my first. The first doe had three, 2 bucks and a doe. This year will be my first Mini Bred to another Mini. I can't wait. Thanks so much for the video. I will be trying for the first time tonight. Sending in for pregnancy tests. Wish. me luck. I have enjoyed your cheese videos too.

Thank you for this video , we have had goats for a few years now and it's always the worst to draw blood lol. I've never seen this collar trick or even thought of it. I am definitely going to try it!

I've had goats for almost 25 years, and always had the vet or someone else do the blood draws...after seeing this video of yours, I'm going to do this myself. Thanks for the great video!

Watched multiple videos on drawing blood and was having a hard time getting it when I first tried. Watched this video and realized that I had her collar at the top of her neck, moved it down and the vein bulged out, got it first try!

Thank you. I’m a retired nurse s and have done blood draws a lot but not in goats. I think what I learned most in this video is to train my assistant on how they can help me. The holding pressure for 45 second or so afterward was something another goat friend recommended. I have yet to draw but it is coming up soon

Thank you for showing a few difficulties with this process! All the other videos we watched make it look like a piece of cake and it’s totally not. You gave some really helpful tips and I appreciate that even someone who does this a lot might need two or three tries. Thank you!!

Thank you so much for posting this, even with the mess-ups. I just tried a blood draw this morning and it was an epic fail. I feel more equipped to try again now!

Out of My Element that was the hardest part about learning. I expected I needed to get it the first time. I know you feel bad jabbing them more than once, but there’s a learning curve.

@@HammockHavenFarm I just went out and tried again. Using the collar as the tourniquet was pure brilliance. It was SO MUCH EASIER! Thank you! I just successfully drew blood on 3 does. Wooot!

And she bucks and headbutts so I can't get in vein at all ... and I don't got a fancy stand just old fashion tie to a wall or post.

Why not go straight to the vacuum tube? That's how they do it on humans and it seems to be more effective.

magana559 I just use supplies I have on hand. I don’t keep the kind of needles around you need for drawing into the tube. I honestly have never seen them sold at the livestock supply companies I frequent.

@@HammockHavenFarm Very true, seems like it might be easier but I'm unsure. I'm not knocking the video in any way. You definitely have got the job done with the supplies you had on hand. I'm just thinking outloud.

Yes, he really needed to have his arm firmly under the goat's head and hold it against him, away from the needle, to expose the neck and immobilise the goat.

wrong! - do not follow this bad advice - i do this by myself and never have this problem - tie the head up - remove the tourniquet as soon as you get the vein!

By all means, upload a video with your technique. You do realize that there is something to be said for not being afraid to learn a new skill. If you expect perfection from the start, who would ever try?

There are many ways of doing something . This way is not wrong its just different. Your way is not wrong ,it's different and works for you. We need to support each other and bring all kinds of ideals to the table.
