Why do people keep the standard coils ? Are they better then the upgraded coils ? And why the catch can on the 2.0t r engine ?

You can`t tell is it standart coil because there are tuned black coils. And yeah, in my opinion there is no point to install tuned coils. About catch can - EA888 have very big issue with carter ventilation system on high boost. Even on IS38 you can have some oil in the turbo. So people install this kit that blocks PCV valve and catch oil if it ever fly out

It would be interesting if you'd talk about head design on this engine. I suppose its the EA888.3 which comes standard in these cars. They have an integrated exhaust manifold design which make the cars sound very raspy. When you don't have the integrated exhaust manifold it opens up to the opportunity of having tubular manifolds which this car has. That's what makes the car sound so good, not the screamer. The tubular manifold will align the exhaust pulses differently and make a much better sound without rasp, it also makes more power because of the scavenging effect.

This actually still retains the twin port cylinder head internal exhaust manifold - it isn’t tubular, we instead ported and opened up as much as we could feasibly go right down to the valve seats and also opening up the exit by 3mm circumference along with 2mm oversized exhaust valves

Definitely a haldex system from either Golf R or RS3, but I think even the haldex from the Golf R and RS3 are the same so doesn't really matter which car it came off

Originally the turbo setup and original engine yes, but it blew the engine - at the time it was using a stand alone boost controller The only thing left from that build really is the turbo and intake, and intake manifold

He is doing the tidying up himself, it is all down to budget when someone is building a car, he wanted to focus on getting the car to perform and hit the brief that was set out. He is very handy with build work so his budget with us was to build an engine and supporting mods to hit his target He bought the car as a shell with boxes of parts and handed it to us - and yes it was already tired, but now he has an engine to build around

DQ500 box has long ratios. ZF8 is shorter ratios that’s why they go though the gears quicker. 140 would be shifting into 5th at 90mph where this would be in 3rd
