I just bought one used at the Tampa ham fest. $50. Works great. Your video helps me how to use it.

I've decided to make this part of my Xmas stocking this year. I love handheld radios mostly for commercial stations. I can get a cheap DAB unit but this gives me a huge range of station and frequency options and is likely to last me a good few years. I like the fact it runs of a Nokia battery and has an external antenna port. I'm a Ham operator but haven't picked up a radio in years. I think SWL is better for me as I love the strange and unusual so I'm imagining nights in the yard looking for far off transmissions. For this price it's well worth it for any radio enthusiast.

Thank you for your review. I am thinking of buying this radio. I would like to listen to AM radio stations here in Italy. The 'external antenna seems inefficient to me. What do you suggest for me to use the Tucsun PL 368 at home?
@markplott48202 жыл бұрын
hamrad88 - Actually the Tecsun PL-368 / CountyComm GP-7 has a 4th Antenna for Shortwave/AM , its the Roll up clip on Antenna by Radio Shack / Sangean , you can use it in your Radio Room , with Push Pins to support the Wire , or a Bush or Tree. CountyComm also sells the Roll up Antenna too.

Nice video Tom. You can plug in a random wire antenna into the antenna socket as well for MW/LW. Here in the UK I can pick up over 50 MW stations at night on my PL-360, some from Spain and France. I use a 50 feet EFW, grounded through a 1:9 balun then into the radio with a 3.5mm mono jack. It also works on SW and FM, this range of radios from Tecsun are some of the most versatile in my opinion. Are there any other pocket radios that have an external antenna jack that works on MW? I can’t think of one, be interested to know if there are others if anyone knows? 👍🏼

Thanks for your report. I know of no other radios that can do that. Have a great day.

Thanks Tom, same to you. I’d love to pick up one of those PL-368’s but not seen any in the U.K. yet.

Great demo, thanks. I do think a 49:1 Unun (Transformer) coil wil drastically enhance reception. You can wind those yourself and they give incredible selectivity on a lot of bands. The big problem with these telescopic antennas is the resistance in ohm (Impedance) of up to 3000 Ohm's. This Radio want's 50-75 Ohm's to be adequate. The 49:1 Unun Transformer coil wil adjust those values to a normal 50-75 Ohm's. That's why the reception is exceptional on all bands between 500KHz - 1750KHz. You might get 100 channels instead of 14. A good Noise blanker and noise filter is what you want to have even crisper audio. Some Malachite receivers have just that.

Short whip antennas can perform extremely well on long and medium wave, provided the antenna employs the design concept of having a FET with an extremely high input Z. One can purchase such antennas, even those employing only a very small patch of PCB as the element. Likely require grounding though.

I have been looking for a small portable and the Retekess TR105 has been high on my list since the Eton pocket requires AAA batts and I feel that is too wasteful. This radio, a bit more expensive but not unreasonably so is very interesting and since I have a couple Tecsun radios, it's really high in the running. Thanks for the reviews of this radio, very helpful and interesting. I do have a question, does the internal AM antenna disconnect when the external is plugged in?
@hamrad883 жыл бұрын
Don't know for sure but my guess is Yes.

Thanks for the video, Tom. Hopefully, it's a case in which the RFI ambient of your office (at least at this time of day) is sufficient to cancel the effectiveness of the "T" ferrite antenna. (Otherwise, Tecsun would surely not have gone through the trouble of including it).
@hamrad883 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think it makes the radio too sensitive and therefore picking up all the rf noise in my office. Will need to test it outside.

Tom, does the t-shaped antenna, knobs on end move (arrows), like a tuning capacitor. ?
@hamrad883 жыл бұрын
I thought may be turn but I could not find anything in the manual about it. It does have arrows on the ends and it does turn but has no effect that I have noticed.

Another variable in the reception of MW stations is the wattage they use to power their broadcast transmission.
@hamrad883 жыл бұрын
Very true and some stations vary their wattage output during the 24 hrs.

Lovely radio but I have a serious problem with my PL-368 with fw version 3682, the other day I had it on charge, when I took it off charge and turned it on the AM section (MW,LW,SW) was completely deaf...even using the "hidden" feature by long pressing 3 for internal vs external antenna made no difference, it's completely useless now (except FM is fine) so is there was way to reset this radio?
