Jason, this was by far my favorite video on your channel. It feels like Yaesu built this radio for me and my EmComm and field use cases. I have been looking for a 2m/440 analog rig with a dedicated data port for awhile. If it had SSB, I would have bought 10 units. The owner from ARMOLOQ put this on my radar a few days ago as we have been talking about the perfect VHF/UHF manpack, so I placed my pre-order last week. There will be a manpack build on my channel when this bad boy arrives. Again, great work with this video! It's great to hear that Yaesu is not stuffing digital down everyone's throat. 73, KT1RUN

Thanks man! Agreed on the SSB feature, I would like to see a radio with that soon. Building a manpack sounds fun too, I look forward to seeing it.

I like this radio, I just got it and it is perfect for my wife's car. The build quality of the radio and mic is excellent, it is very easy to operate and has what I need for basic operation. I am big into zones on my IC-2370A and by HT and mobile anytones, but at $233 shipped (as of Oct. 2022) this radio is a great value. The 5 channel PMG bank is sufficient for my around town/county needs and more than plenty for any of the numerous public service events I do each year in my region. This won't work for any event or emcomm situation where I run net control, but even in those types of events, as an operator, I very rarel need to monitor more than one frequency, and if I do, I can just listen on an HT in my car. You know how many times I have actually used crossband repeat on ANY of my other radios: zero times.

I just picked one of these up. I appreciate that it’s analog without digital. With the detachable control head, I’m still trying to figure out how to mount to take advantage of this feature.

Sir- Is the micorophone on this radio a speaker mike? I ask because I will be mounting the radio in the trunk and wonder if I need an extension speaker. 73 WB2LBQ

I have the 7800 and really like it, have it in my truck, but in all honesty, I was going to buy the 7250 as a cheaper alternative for digital, but I had seen it was discontinued, bummer.

You're not forcing digital on anyone. That's what the mode select button is for. Maybe if this radio was arounf $150 there would be an actual place in the market for this radio. But for this price, you'd be better off buying a Kenwood TM-V71A and get dual receive. I feel like Yeasu really missed the mark with this radio.
@HamRadio2
@HamRadio2 3 жыл бұрын
THe V71A has been discontinued. And it is older tech, no way a brand new radio would be the same price as that model.

Absolutely. Yaesu cannot argue people complained about paying for features they did not use and then offer Bluetooth. I laugh when they talk about fiddling with the radio driving… with little activity on repeaters as there is who’s fiddling? They’re more likely fiddling with the mic [extension cord] that should be located at the head unit.

the only thing I do not like about my old FT7800 is the RJ11 mic connector - use a standard 8 pin round or an RJ45 for easier connections to other input systems. I do not do digital vhf/uhf, so this is a great option

@@HamRadio2 Jason, I bought my first Yaesu 2m handheld in 1987, it was made in Japan. The last handheld and the 2980 mobile I bought from them were marked China. I will be pleasantly surprised if the new 6000r is made in Japan. I grew up watching Japanese consumer electronics taking over the American market and some the American brand names started having their products made in Japan. Now I am seeing China starting to do the same thing with Japan. It is hard to compete with almost slave labor force in China. I believe all the new hams I have met in the past few years all have Baofeng uv5r's. I have bought several Chinese mobiles and handhelds as they were the only people making 220 equipment. I am wondering if Icom and Kenwood will start having their analog radios manufactured in Japan?
