Absolutely the best done tutorial for Amateur Radio I’ve run into to date. No long verbose unrelated introductions. No hubris. Just a fellow ham who figured it out AND shared the knowledge. Perfect. In my situation the USB to USB would not work. Fortunately I also bought the USB /CAT cable (FTDX-10 manual reference page 14, item 12 that has one USB end and the other “funky looking” end - check the diagram pic on page 13 labeled “12”.) My comm port numbers were different as can always be the case. But now it works effortlessly. Thank you for your editing and camera work also - easy to see and follow you with the help of the pause button. I immediately started going on the air and stopped. Just had to send this comment before playing. I owe you. Great job! De kr4bg/Matthew - Virginia- ex Wb2lar.

Thank you for saving me a weekend! After spending a couple hours on the N1MM official instructions I was able to control my rig but not send CW. Did not know about the PC Keying setting on the rig (okay, I should have, I'll admit it but nonetheless, I didn't). Tnx for showing me that and the rest of the settings. Now I'll figure out how to slow down the sending speed to my normal snail pace and I'll be set! 73, Wayne de K4WK

Hi Tom, DTR and RTS are lines that are set high or low as needed to allow serial comms, these are originally from the serial port RS232 comms DTR Data Terminal Ready, RTS Ready to Send, the 9 way serial port on the device is a cut down verson of the original 25 way RS232 serial interface, so in short, this is legacy serial interface terms, still in use, with the Yaesu USB, hope this helped in some way. Seems the firnware still uses, if needed Thx for this Video, 73

Hey, Tom, thanks for the comment. I put these out there to help others avoid some pain hopefully. Tnx fer the Serial instruction. Seems like there's some history behind these ports...that I don't know.

i solved my trouble with interaction between FTDX10 and N1MM setup, because first time i cannot have CW modulated but only single tone. Thank a this video i discovered my error in the setup due to inversion between RTS and DTR... Now all run all right.

RTS DCS CTS are old legacy pinout to 70's RS-232 and RS-432 . Over the decades, Hams used RS-232 pins to TRICK a radio and computer to behave and play nice-nice together.

Just watching this video to learn about cat cables and my new ftdx10. FYI - DTR (data terminal ready), RTS (request to send) and there is one called CTS (clear to send). These are serial port methods from way back to determine if your port is going to send data or to wait. Usually one is setup by the manufacturer to sync with both pieces of equipment. The computer can do all of them, but likely, the setup and drivers for the radio may be limited.

RTS and DTR refer to the RS232 control lines. www.electronics-notes.com/articles/connectivity/serial-data-communications/rs232-signal-voltage-levels.php. The FTDX10 series works best with just USB control, especially with wsjt-x.

Am I correct in understanding that you were able to use N1MM+ to key your rig w/o any external (e.g., MORTTY CW, WinKeyer, etc.) keyer interface? I've been trying to copy what you did using a SERIAL (not USB-Serial) cable. I've been able to trigger the rig's TX light, but not to actually key. Also using FTDX10. I may have to go the USB cable route.

Witaj, fajny film.

I wish I could say I was completely successful. Unfortunately when N1MM keys the rig and send CW the character spacing is horrible and Dits and Dahs seem to be all the same length. What did i miss. Thanks for posting a good video though. - Rick, W2JAZ
