Fldigi - Trouble Shooting & Tips

Autostart works okay with the ic7300 (latest revision Oct. 2024). I keep a shortcut to Sounds on the desktop. Once it's close, I tweak it in the digital apps and rarely have to adjust it ever again. I also set up different mic and speaker for a couple of different apps, works well that way.

Hi KW3KW Congratulations for your videos, they were very useful for me. Until now I have used RTTY directly from the FTDX10, but with FLDIGI it is much easier. I followed all your advice and everything went well. But... to be able to transmit I have to set PSK on the Yaesu! If setting RTTY-L the Yaesu always transmits only a tone identical to the Tune. Sorry for my googl-english 73 and All the best!

Thanks for your time! Setting the Yaesu on PSK the rtty QSOs work fine. OK, my problem is with the fldigi on (one of) the club's computers (the version on the other computer seems to be fine); when I start it, it seems to start normally, but then whenever I go to change a setting (Config) or edit a macro, it suddenly crashes and shuts down for no apparent reason (version 4.2.00). With some of the older versions, when they install, it's a full directory with all of the .ini files, etc. Now, it's just the "locale" file (different languages), the flarq and the fldigi executable files and the uninstall file. I remember one forum where I asked about it, they said to rename the .dat and .ini files (forgot specifically which ones), but since that's not in the download any more, how do I fix this issue? We (meaning the club) recently got a nice IC-7300 and even though it's got a decent RTTY decoder built-in, I like using fldigi for it and other modes, like PSK31, but with this issue on the club computer (it's running Win10)...........

Short way: Uninstall the Fldigi, reboot the computer. Then reinstall. See if this works. IF a RESTORE POINT was ever set on the system. Go back to that restore point and restore. It will go back to a previous version of Windows that may have the files intact. Medium Way: Do the same but delete the USB Audio Codex Driver, reboot the computer and reinstall the driver. Long Way: Go to "Reset this PC" and reload Windows. It will keep all the files but not the program and apps. You will have to reinstall them. I just did this and it solved a host of issues for me. Takes 4-8 hours to reinstall all the programs and apps etc. Start on the easy one but you may have no choice but to do the latter one. Let me know how it works out.

Excellent video! After switching from fldigi ver. 4.1.23 to 4.2.03, the new one will not drive my IC-7300 to transmit more than 9 W of output power no matter how I set the RF power or PC sound card volumes. I did not uninstall 4.1.23 before installing 4.2.03 in case there was a problem. The old version of fldigi is still installed on my PC and it continues to work properly. I'm using the same configuration settings as before. Any thoughts on what's going on?

Couple of thoughts. First, IF you ALC is below the meter line, kick it up 2-3 bars. What I have found is the PO drops quickly and you may need to kick it up higher on the newer version. It won't make a noticeable impact on increasing distortion. I still get full decode. What is your rig make and model? Second, increase you DT Gain slightly and see what happens (FT-991A- this is a common practice). Let me know if this helped.

Your thoughts on the app fldigi starting momentairly then closing after just a few seconds? Several clean installs on laptop. No issue on desktop computer. TIA

Are you using Flrig or direct CAT control? Try Flrig settings instead and see if anything changes. Also: Firewall issue? Conflict with another open HF App program at the same time. Try Rt Mouse Click to launch the program. Sometimes when we double click the icon, two versions open and messes it up. Does JS8Call work ok on the laptop? Let me know if any of these helped and if not, I will try some more possible answers.

Your videos are great! keep them coming. I have a question, for which I have not found an answer in the help docs or online. info: my friend is in Kentucky, I am in Alabama. We normally leave fsq running which works fine. FLMSG works when we are both at our stations, using the same modem and manually sending ics213's. My question is this: Can we have our radio modem set to fsq. One attended station send's a 213 to the unattended station and have fldigi recognize it, then change the modem to match the sending modem and rx the 213? Then switch back to fsq. Is this possible?

There seems to be a time lapse from when I hit transmit and the actual transmission? Also power is less then it is set until the rig un keys? Thanks

How much of a delay and with Fldigi? Power Output is driven by your ALC settings. Too low ALC will reduce the power, too high will cause "overdrive" and results in signal distortion. Make sure you have the ALC showing just on the other side of the low end of the meter on your rig. You want to see a little activity.

unable to get fldgi to reconize line in for port audio. sound card config capture dialog box shows line 0, but windows says everything is working. any Ideas, would be appreciated?

Any thought as to why fldigi slows down with flmsg open? I could leave it open and running without a problem then suddenly the waterfall starts getting really choppy and even freezes, and when I close flmsg it flows smoothly again. I've uninstalled old versions and put the new on there and while for a few hours it'll run ok, it eventually will get choppy again.

What are you running the App on? Windows (version), Linux or Mac OS? How much RAM on your PC? Just a shot in the dark, if this is on a PC with Windows, check your CPU (Task Manager) and see if you are at it's limit. Let me know.

@@hamradiomadesimple It's windows 10, I think it's 8GB. I'll check the task manager. Something else has gone weird about it as now it won't transmit from FLAMP. If I have missing blocks and hit report, fldigi says it's transmitting but it's not keying the radio via signalink. So strange that it was fine on Monday and since yesterday it's been a mess.

I installed FLDigi on a Raspberry Pi 5. I find that the mouse cursor is painfully slow while running FLDigi. Any ideas? People seem to have run it without issues even on Pi 3, so this shouldn't be happening on a Pi 5.

Bill, you really can't so that is why I take the time to screen print and put notes on all my various HF Digital Software Apps. Easy to restore once I have all the correct settings in my 3 ring binder.

Intente activar JS8Call primero, ya que es más fácil de configurar y probar. Adjunto está mi guía de configuración. También hice un video sobre JS8Call A-Z. No tengo ningún documento sobre el FT-10dx, por lo que no tengo ninguno. Aquellos con quienes he trabajado tienen problemas al respecto. Le pediré a alguien que tenga uno que me envíe la configuración de su equipo.

Great information 👍👍. I assume that FL-Digi is not expected to work with "USB SDR" type receivers ??. as when I try to Receive a Weather Fax map.. ODD things happen with phasing.. see an example if you wish.. (link at bottom) Note how the map will shift at random times. I need to be lucky to receive a perfect map top to bottom.. any information would be helpful in resolving this issue..I use FL-Digi for RX only.. No TX is required and audio is ported through (VB Audio) Virtual Cable Software. Example of Map Phase Shift Error: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZDZlKWnYr2KZq8

If it is a SDR Receiver then it will only receive. IF you mean a SDR Transceiver, then it is suppose to be able to receive & transmit. I have talked directly to several who own the SDR TX, they can't figure out how to Fldigi to TX. Since I don't own one, I can't play around and see what the issue is. I would suspect it may be due to not using the right Silicon Lab driver. With certain radios, I find this to be the case.

Yup Receive only not a problem (understood) Simple answer to this is a timing issue.. But..So much is going on in the background and (Foreground) many Tasks that just a simple HICK_UP of milliseconds will mess it up.. (Not sure if just one thing) or more.. just was hoping that someone had this issue and solved it, and could help point to a solution for me I did try to disable "Antivirus" background tasks.. to see if improved but nope.. (need to be lucky) to Rcv top to bottom 100% @@hamradiomadesimple
