FEMBOY: n. a (traditionally) adolescent male whose appearance and behavioral traits are regarded as conventionally feminine.
I was asked a few times why certain characters were left off the cypher (namely characters like ruka urushibara from steins;gate). Femboy is a pretty broad umbrella but I didn't want to include characters who are trans unless I had a trans person represent them. I was also asked why I didn't just call this the 'trap' cypher. This is directly related to the above reason. The words 'trap' and 'femboy' are essentially interchangeable but trap has been co-opted by transphobic people in oder to describe trans people that (according to them) 'trap' straight people by catfishing them, making the other person believe they are a woman when they are actually not (and are doing so with malicious intent). A combination of referring to this as the 'trap cypher' while also including characters who are trans sends a potentially harmful message not only to trans people, but to cis men AND women who enjoy crossdressing or naturally present as androgynous/the opposite gender. At the end of the day, this is supposed to be a fun celebration of a relatively common anime trope, and I don't want to ruin that fun for some of my viewers for the sake of being edgy.
