I love these videos! Short and on-point, not a lecture, and the attachment of the semitendinosus corresponds to a knee pain I've had, and makes sense in light of my activities that led up to it. Now I have something to research. Sweet!

I've been getting a burning sensation behind my knee from cycling so I've been looking at knee anatomy diagrams and they're all so confusing.. lead me to believe I had an MCL injury, but this video helped me figure out that I probably just have a strained hamstring, so thank you and great job on this! fascinating stuff

Much needed! I am trying to figure out why when I straighten my legs they rotate medially and even more noticeable when I bend forward while doing this. My reasoning tells me it has to be a muscle attached to the posterior side of the ischial tuberosity, and either the femur or tibia, thus rotating my leg in when bending down. I think this is the reason. I may need to stretch these!
@AnatomyLab
@AnatomyLab Жыл бұрын
Could also be the shape of your acetabulum and your femur that force your leg in a rotation,.. have it checked by a Physio or osteopath they can tell you what it is exactly,.. have a good one and good luck!

Awesome top quality educational videos. You deserve a lot more views and subscribers. A common question regarding labelling in all your Hamstring videos - Shouldn't the straight legged forward bending movement (2:19) be labelled Hip Flexion instead of Hip Extension?
@AnatomyLab
@AnatomyLab 3 жыл бұрын
thank you for your message and your input! I will check it out and correct it in round 2! that’s exactly what these animations are for,.. we can reflect and sooner or later get a better understanding of what is actually going on,.. believe me I make a lot of mistakes, so if you find one let me know ! thanks so much and stay healthy!
@Mthompsonwv

It would actually be hip extension. Though the animation shows more of a flexion of the hip, the muscle actually functions to extend the hip. It would lengthen to allow hip flexion but it’s actual function would be hip extension as it is used to bring the hip from a 90* angle back to a straight line. So when you bend forward at the waist, the muscle will engage to stabilize the movement, and then shorten to extend back to its original position. The quads would be the functional hip flexors as they would actually flex the hip and decrease the angle of the hip. The video is a bit confusing as the start of the movement IS hip flexion, and then the second part is the hip extension, but this is the part the Semitendinosus aids in. During the hip flexion it actually fights to extend the hip to slow and stabilize the movement. Hope that helps!

I have a unilateral curvature in my right leg. Will it help if I strengthen the semitendinosus muscle of the inner leg?

@@nadir.mamedov99 so I assume it’s your femur that’s broken? If your goal is to straighten out the curve by training the semitendinosus I highly doubt that this will help- but you should contact a surgeon and ask this question, because maybe I m wrong or something else can be done,..

The hamstring muscles can be so dysfunctional. I'm finding this out now, ouch ha. I believe for bad posture and anterior tilted pelvis, the individual may need to strengthen these muscles, and for bad posture posterior tilted pelvis, the individual may need to stretch these muscles.

(2:17 / 2:37) Not a function of the hamstring muscles. this movement is to stretch those muscles. The axial flexion hamstring muscles cannot function. in my opinion
