@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones You can get the holy ham trifecta right now in a $160 BTECH UV PRO. Obviously that's a VHF/UHF HT and not a DX shack-in-the-box. But I think the ability to do APRS on a smart phone connected via Bluetooth to an HT is even more impressive.

WiFi was the only thing making me consider grabbing a 705 before the Yaesu drop. I have my pre-order in the Yaesu, but I've seen several slick setups using the 705's WiFi feature. The FTX-1F with the fan and tuner is going to be great IMO.

Agree :)

It seems like it may have a few plus points over the IC-705 and perhaps one down side. It will be very interesting to see how they price it in relation to the Icom.

Wow, you really were close on your guess of what it would look like, to the point where I am certain they took your design into consideration. I mean, look at the dual speaker ports on the bottom and all the main knobs are exactly the same! You should sue them lol.

Nice but just cant see how you can fit the atu with the battery. There's no terminals on the atu or battery to connect them together. Think you will be using the atu module only on an external supply to the radio. Think this may have been miss sold if shops are taking deposits
@Valkyrie1911Ай бұрын
Yeah, looks like you can only use the fan and tuner together. Not a huge deal really IMO. I think everyone putting deposits down is well aware there has been little information given, so you're taking a "risk". I paid $35, if I don't like it, I'll throw it up for sale and easily make my money back.
@michaelscott2592Ай бұрын
@Valkyrie1911 that's what I was thinking. I know the deposits are refundable it's a great shame really wanted it to be fully portable with the atu may have to look at the x6200
@Valkyrie1911Ай бұрын
@@michaelscott2592 There are some pretty small LifePo batteries out there. I guess it all depends how you plan to use it. I'm planning to use it in a pack setup once Armoloq releases their frame for it. I THINK it should fit in a PRC-117g pouch and if that's the case, there will be plenty of room under the radio for a decent sized external battery.

Nice rig but really needs 1.25m. I'd also like to see an answer to Icom's 905 for microwave (SHF) and amateur TV. One that uses internal batteries which the 905 does not.
@HamTechRadioScannerDrones4 күн бұрын
Does anyone use SHF ?
@ChatGPT11114 күн бұрын
@ The Icom 905 FB page has over 2,000 members alone. Other amateur microwave pages have over 1,000 members. It needs to be bigger, to be sure, because it is the only RF format that cannot be intercepted without being line-of-site. Plus it is the best frequency for amateur television.

IC-705 issues: a) CAT/sound card control is easily lost due to its own RF, inadequate isolation; b) micro-USB, pff; c) micro-SD very difficult to insert-extract plus danger you'll have to open the rig to recover the micro card if not inserted perfectly aligned; d) according to its operating manual danger of 'reactive force' (amplifier relay) on PTT used for amplifier. Got rid of it after 6 or so months. Gust ON6KE
@HamTechRadioScannerDronesАй бұрын
Sorry but 705 is amazing the items you mention are trivial compared to the thousands of functions it has rf isolation what proof do you have ? , USB C you can use an adapter, microns cards are always fiddly sound card works great .

Good to see Yaesu giving an alternative to the IC-705. Yaesu seem to be copying Icom. Icom came out with the SDR 7300, Yaesu copied the SDR technology with the FT-710. Icom came out with the all in one HF/VHF/UHF QRP SDR IC-705, and now Yaesu are copying with this FTX1F. But, I won't be buying this, I prefer and will keep my IC-705, Icom actually have a clock on display, not with any of the Yaesu's, Icom has multi meters - ALL of the meters on the display at he same time, Yaesu Nah. Only thing I like about this Yaesu is 2 x BNC antenna connectors and dual (but NOT full duplex) RX
