I agree with him. I have been studying eastern religions and I was awestruck to find the depth of spiritual and metaphysical knowledge they possess. It is highly unlikely that our prophet saw could have ignored it, but I believe it is virtually lost by the dominance of orthodoxy and salafis.

Yeah, I also think it is lost due to Islam being relegated to a mere identity rather than what it actually is: a spiritual path. Somewhere down the line we lost the essence of Islam. Its been reduced to "what day is eid" and "where do i get my halal chicken from". Its basically just a list of halals and harams for us

Metaphysical poetry is not a valid concept. Metaphysics is an explanation and poetry is not. Poetry obscured and must be interpreted, which is the opposite of an explanation in most ways that matter. "Fire or ice" has literally no relation to the interpretation "appetite or spirit". This is metaphysical nonsense.

Poetry is the Metaphysics of the tongue. 3) who told you poetry isn't an explanation? It is the greatest of explanations of reality; it is a timeless explanation. It is explaining life through smile, identifying it with metaphor, sympathizes with it with personification. Dancing with it with meter.

How DARE you say they, the founding fathers, did not have understanding like the intelligentsia? That they were not philosophical? WHY are you teaching your students FALSE HISTORY? This is upsetting! Let them go to religious meeting on the weekend but TEACH them PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE so that it APPLIES TO LIFE and they can be accredited at educational institutions and so EMPLOYERS RECOGNIZE THE CREDENTIALS at the end of your course! You made FALSE statements about North American society. It is NOT going to help them having separate education that continues to perpetuate FALSE thinking or your inability to comprehend christian society at it's origins and founding of the Nations here. If you teach them WRONG information then they do not understand how to function, how or WHY things in society works they way it does. IF they were integrated into regular schools and classes and learned with everyone else then they would adapt and excel but as is if you keep instructing them with wrong facts BECAUSE OF YOUR BIAS AGAINST CHRISTIANITY AND ITS SOCIETY than they are perpetually at odd with all here and that is why so many FAIL to ADAPT and you have ones who still commit acts of terror because they could not fit in because YOU as teachers think that teaching them to REJECT the society HERE is okay. IT IS NOT! THEY NEED TO LEARN WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS LEARNING SO THEY CAN BE ON THE SAME PAGE AS THE REST OF SOCIETY! SO THEY CAN PARTICIPATE AND THEN THEY WON'T BE FRUSTRATED AND ACT OUT VIOLENTLY! STOP TEACHING THEM FALSE FACTS ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF THIS SOCIETY IN NORTH AMERICA AND STOP TEACHING THEM TO REJECT IT'S CHRISTIAN ORIGINS AND HISTORY! Seriously, HOW do YOU expect to earn respect as an educator, if YOU refuse to teach accurate information. You degraded the capacity of the founding fathers abilities or education and taught that they were NOT the intelligentsia of their day, and how wrong you were on that,and you said they could not have been as YOU as a MUSLIM are BIASED! That is HARMING YOUR STUDENTS! It does not teach them REAL HISTORY! To give you an analogy, MUSLIMS excelled at math, algebra, the coming together of all parts of a thing, the islamic society in history it was among the greatest mathematicians and scholars, but if I as a christian REFUSED to acknowledge this FACT and REFUSED to teach someone in my society about the truth and REJECTED IT, MATH and ALL THAT IT IS simply because I hated Islam would that HURT or help a student? IT WOULD HURT THEM RIGHT? So if I as a christian those teachers teach MATH and acknowledge persons among its origins that excelled and value their contributions and TEACH it to a student then that benefits them. IF I instead REFUSED to acknowledge ANY contribution of Islamic society simply because of the fact I am a different religion then we would be sitting here without architects or engineers etc and so forth, so if the actual TEACHERS HERE in NORTH AMERICA are doing their JOBS AS YOU SHOULD BE then they teach REAL HISTORY! The same applies to YOU at this so called school. He's not forcing anything on anyone. Those students have travelled world-wide for this SPECIFIC education, that many wish to have. And I honestly don't think you even understood anything he was saying. As evident from your comments. Its okay , its because you don't know the context. He's talking about the modern world's neglect of the liberal arts and how we now live in a time of appetite. A lot of Americans religious or not will agree with what he is saying. and he never said they weren't philosophical, on the contrary, he said we underestimate how much knowledge they had, but he said it wasn't as advanced as what we know today , which is true. its much more organised with categorises and sub-categorises etc.. now where as before they may have known it but didn't have a name for it. Relax and breathe. I think you didn't fully grasp what Shaykh Hamza Yusuf was addressing. Please watch again with an open heart and with patience. No need for aggression towards what he is saying. He is focusing on the human condition and believe it or not but as much as the great advancement that we see from the West, the people are not well and in need of peace and true knowledge. In addition, he is not forcing nothing on anyone, rather he is educating with wisdom and truth. You should know by now, we are not being taught real history in the current education system. I suggest the book, Neil Postman, the end of education.

If you study Islam, it encourages one to work and provide for family. Islam did not come to prepare someone for jobs, Islam is there to look after the human condition. With the condition being looked after, it will will grant the person a positive mindset to excel in every aspects of life such as your work, your family and friends and with society.
