I agree with him. I have been studying eastern religions and I was awestruck to find the depth of spiritual and metaphysical knowledge they possess. It is highly unlikely that our prophet saw could have ignored it, but I believe it is virtually lost by the dominance of orthodoxy and salafis.

Yeah, I also think it is lost due to Islam being relegated to a mere identity rather than what it actually is: a spiritual path. Somewhere down the line we lost the essence of Islam. Its been reduced to "what day is eid" and "where do i get my halal chicken from". Its basically just a list of halals and harams for us

Metaphysical poetry is not a valid concept. Metaphysics is an explanation and poetry is not. Poetry obscured and must be interpreted, which is the opposite of an explanation in most ways that matter. "Fire or ice" has literally no relation to the interpretation "appetite or spirit". This is metaphysical nonsense.

You are speaking too arrogantly. 1) Metaphysics isn't an explanation; it is everything related to the first principles of existence. 2) And poetry imitates existence. Poetry is the Metaphysics of the tongue. 3) who told you poetry isn't an explanation? It is the greatest of explanations of reality; it is a timeless explanation. How DARE you say they, the founding fathers, did not have understanding like the intelligentsia? That they were not philosophical? WHY are you teaching your students FALSE HISTORY? This is upsetting! He's talking about the modern world's neglect of the liberal arts and how we now live in a time of appetite. Relax and breathe. I think you didn't fully grasp what Shaykh Hamza Yusuf was addressing. Please watch again with an open heart and with patience. No need for aggression towards what he is saying. He is focusing on the human condition and believe it or not but as much as the great advancement that we see from the West, the people are not well and in need of peace and true knowledge. In addition, he is not forcing nothing on anyone, rather he is educating with wisdom and truth. You should know by now, we are not being taught real history in the current education system. If you study Islam, it encourages one to work and provide for family. Islam did not come to prepare someone for jobs, Islam is there to look after the human condition.
