Not everything in our religion is complicated and needs a twist. Historically, regime sponsored "scholars" who advocated for capitulation in oder to have "peace", had never been able to deliver Muslims from the grip of oppression and subjugation. Seeking friendship and normalization from a brutal entity while it is fighting you in your way of life and driving you out of your home, is a sign of moral bankruptcy and defeat. From a pragmatic standpoint, the non violent "march of return" by the people of Gaza responded by a deadly massacre by the IDF in 2019, did not free the Palestinians from occupation; neither did it sway world public opinion. Many prophets of God were shunned and received little sympathy from their own people, but never swerved from the path of struggle towards justice.

He said he never supported normalization. He also said that he invited the speaker Chris Hedges, who I’ve seen giving speeches very critical of Zionism. What specifically do you take issue with? Forget your talk about what happened historically. Do you understand that that Morocco pursued normalization in exchange for recognition of its claim over Western Sahara; Bahrain pursued normalization so that it can purchase war machines; and of course KSA pursued it for the same reasons. These countries all sold out the Palestinians so they could by more weapons or otherwise oppress people. Why don’t you write long paragraphs about that instead of the nonsense you posted.

What do you think Muslims did when the Mongols invaded and ransacked Baghdad, killing almost all the inhabitants and making skull pyramids? Yet, within couple of generations Mongols became Muslims. This was not achieved through armed resistance! There is a time and place and this is not it.

Even this isn't the whole talk. I was at the event and the short clip makes it seem as people got angry at what he said. That's not what happened. The people who interrupted him (only a few) were there to protest. That was their plan regardless of what he said, but the audience rejected them and supported Hamza Yusuf. When no body cared about them, they triggered the fire alarm, but we still refused to let them ruin the talk. So we waited for 15min until the alarm was resolved and he continued the talk. So that short is very misleading.

I am still confused about hurling of accusations and lack of clear responses. It looks like I missed another awesome opportunity to get clarity about the accusation and his position from this video. To be honest it was a long cryptic answer at best and one had to decipher his speech to figure out what exactly he was responding to and where he really stood. Anyone know about Sheikh's position on: 1. supporting and endorsing Abraham accord (does sheikh support it or not), 2. accepting the state of Israel without a two state solution as a precondition (does sheikh support it or not), 3. supporting the stance of a dual-face governments like of UAE to establish friendly relations with oppressors (does sheikh support their stance or not) 4. whether he or his affiliations has ever received any funds from these governments (yes or no). Instead of making assumptions about the motive of this comment and hurling accusations in ignorance, if Sheikh or someone that represents him can articulate the answers in an official video clearly then everyone will know his position clearly and there won't be any fitna. Otherwise, I am afraid, the confusion and accusations will persist. Umar Khattab (ra) was interrupted, while he was giving a talk by another companion, and asked about how he, Umar (ra), was able to make an upper garment (long kurta/kamees) for himself as there was not enough cloth in his share to so that. Umar (ra) answered the question directly and clearly to satisfy the legitimate objection. Sheikh is advised to follow Umar (ra) in dealing with this matter. Jazakallahu Khairan

I don’t mind people having a genuine and well informed different strategy for Palestinians or for any place really. But, when you have allied with people who support normalisation, when the whole world is on one side with a clear genocide taking place, you lose trust of the people because they can’t tell whether thats you speaking or your friends in high places speaking.... Those blind supporters of HY, he’s right, whether he’s right or wrong should remember the Hadith of helping your brother when is wronged or he is committing a wrong. Or the Shias in Afghanistan. Or what’s happening in Congo everyday for us to use these phones. Where’s the same energy? The world is full of hypocrisy. They just speak about the issues they like to. The world picks and chooses. If I mention ahmadi community to Muslims they always say oh they are non believers. So what their areas of prayer are destroyed all the time in Pakistan. We call out to ALLÃH for justice, first! Justice comes from ALLÃH alone, through human beings, and through forces and agents such as angels that only do as ALLÃH wills. ALLÃH never wills injustice to anyone. In the name ALLÃH, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful, we then preach to, appeal to and call out to the people of justice and the unjust people amongst us, exhorting all to be people of justice. We call out to all, in order to fulfill our duty to ALLÃH, not because we have an expectation that the hard-hearted and unjust ones will hear us. ALLÃH alone knows what is in the hearts and minds of the people, and whether or not they will ever hear us, or will be responsive to our pleas. The unjust and the hard-hearted among those whom we preach to, cannot hear us unless it is the Will of ALLÃH, but our duty is to address them, while having no expectations that they will hear us and favorably respond to our righteous pleas to be just. Our duty as fathful Muslims who believe in ALLÃH alone, is to work for, strive for, preach and call for justice within ourselves, and preach and call to everyone, and know that everyone will indeed receive justice from ALLÃH. This is what the Qur'an peaches and teaches. This what we believe! Ameen.

It is most certainly not a good time to suffer in silence right now. Especially, given today, we have so many allies in our pursuit for justice, and given that our voices has such an impact. Suffering in silence is the weakest level of eman. So we should test the claim that we have free speech with our voices, and if we are denied free speech, they will expose themselves and if we are allowed free speech, we will expose them with our voices.

That interview with Kim Iverson was disappointing, apologetic and I could not bear to hear him go through hoops to explain jihad. @narmi218

@@nedflndrs3680while you may offer the linguistic interpretation of jihad as struggle, you also should mention that it absolutely does include fighting in a just war. We are not pacifists and if the circumstances dictate, then jihad becomes an obligation. Numerous fiqh books have entire chapters on jihad specifically in the context of fighting. When jihad is mentioned in these chapters, it refers to fighting a war and not some spiritual struggle against the self. Netanyahu lost his brother decades ago in war. To suggest that is somehow a contributing factor to his policies against Palestinians is beyond simplistic. This power hungry zealot has dominated Israeli politics for decades, undermined any peace process, expanded settlements and waged war on Palestinians multiple times in an ongoing nakba of continued expulsion, dispossession and killing. When babies are being blown up, buried in rubble, limbs amputated, water, food and medicine denied, excuse me if at this moment we don’t exactly want to know about the death of Netanyahus brother (who let’s get it right, was killed as a soldier conducting a raid).

He is showing too much ego and is coming off as elitist and condescending in my humble opinion. I also notice most of the followers of him and the other sufis are getting more extreme with their treatment of fellow Muslims. To the point it’s becoming cringe and uncomfortable to be around. Many of them treat non believers and other religions so nice but label any Muslims who don’t follow their exact way as wahabi and Salafi and the act like they are all ignorant and beneath them . I’ve seen it way too often.

The task of one's life should be moral clarity, not intellectual nuance. This seems to be a problem for Hamza Yusuf; he can't unequivocally condemn what is obviously an ethnic cleansing campaign because it would put him in trouble with the UAE which has a preexisting financial and military/intelligence relationship with Israel and it would compromise funding for his college. I think it's better for people to ignore him on issues related to international affairs. He has had difficulty articulating his position since 9/11 and I don't think that will change soon.

Says "it's sometimes necessary to suffer in silence." Then mentions the Irish (who never ever stopped their freedom struggle). Then because he's not backing his own opinion, he waffles about the flaws of reacting emotionally (to genocide). And unironically mentions that a time will come when people will be arrogant about their own opinions. I notice he waffles a lot about the metaphor of illness & treatment; considering the frequency he must feel clever about coming up with the comparison. But you can use his own analogy against him: if individual treatment is worse than the illness then the disease's transmission becomes the focus of public health; likewise, if Pals fighting Israel is so dangerous, then he should at least be advocating for the Abnormalisation of Zionism. It's because he doesn't, that feels so disgusting to people.

What exactly did he mean by that? That Palestinians civilians should prepare to be decimated and oppressed for centuries to come?
