I have one, and if I decide to get the body kit, I would probably use it for all around use as a show car and drifting. Then again the stock body lines are perfect enough for me. I already am aiming to upgrade the motor to around 350-400 at the wheels. I have most of the necessary cooling upgrades, along with an Re Amemiya intake inlet, HKS downpipe, and an Apexi N1 exhaust + coilovers,. As far as future upgrades I'm keeping it twin turbo sequential with BNR stage 3 turbos, twin oil cooler, better intercooler, possible ac delete, Apexi power fc commander, full tan Recaro & Nardi interior. Also going to reduce the overall weight and rotating mass.

The reason why this RX-7 was iconic was def because of the bodykit. If no one told you it was a RX-7. No one will know the base car was a FD3S type R. It def odd that the car has a good turbo but they prob limit the boost in fear of uncontrolled drift and crashing it. For the scene where Han was T-boned by Jason Statham. The crashed and flipped car was a stock RX-7 with bits of the Veilside bodykit bits. One shot where you see Han before the car blew up. You noticed the Big brake calipers are missing. No way a T bone crash will make brake calipers go flying off. The directors seem to love big explosions. Because that explosion was basically not possible with normal cars even with the NOS tank

We were street racing in Seattle in the early 90s. I drove a street legal 64 Chevelle SW with 12,5-1 compression, roller cammed 396 as a daily driver. It ran 11:40's all day long , shifting into 3rd crossing the XXXX's with a top speed more than the 160mph sportcomp speedometer could handle. Enough torque to push you into the seat anytime the accelerator was pushed. It sported a fully built 350th, Moser 9" Ford with 3.5 gears, 28/10.5/15 rear tires and a six point roll cage with dual five point harnesses.

I think people are interested in the Veilside RX7 because it is so crazy and interesting looking. When I first saw it in the film as a kid it was unlike anything I had seen before and I couldn’t even tell what kind of car it was underneath. I think if you were going to actually make one (which I would love to do one day) the only realistic usage you could get out of it, other than a show car, would be a high horsepower roll racing setup as I wouldn’t want to risk drifting something with a $30k body kit.

This was a very interesting car and the color scheme was attention calling. Most of us have always been interested in that car from the movie. And when I became more of an enthusiast I became interested in watching movies or games about cars I’ve viewed or played in the past when I didn’t know much about cars so I can relive my curiosity this time with new found knowledge. For myself at least I was always interested in knowing more about this RX7!

I get that, it still was a really low number and the torque wasn't even good enough for drifting. And the T04Z is capable of really good whp numbers so I was suprised a car equipped with that turbo had such low numbers

@@TheRacingJoker The reason RX-7's were so popular in the downhill drifting scene in the 90's and on tracks is actually because of the lack of torque. True drifting, which really isn't shown at all in this movie, not relying on the handbrake and instead using clutch stabs and weight transfers actually made the RX-7's (particularly the FC Turbo II and the FD3S) lack of torque a huge benefit because it was so easy to break traction and flick the rear of the car out, and you didn't have the a lot of torque fighting you. It was a lot like why the AE86 was so good for drifting, but on steroids, with better suspension and weight balance. They needed the extra torque for the movie because a lot of what they did was on either flat surfaces, or not moving very fast at all. At speed, there are few cars that will out-drift a well tuned FC or FD. That is also why rotary swaps are incredibly popular for Miatas. The RX-8 (briefly) in this movie would actually be an interesting car to look into, as the version of the 13b in it was notoriously prone to blowing up, due to emissions restrictions, the removal of the turbo (which had actually helped the FC and FD stay cooler by venting the exhaust, rotaries run EXTREMELY hot), and trying to make it make more base horsepower. I doubt the drifting scenes with it were real, and if they were, it was a 13b-tt under that hood and not a 13b Renesis.

Little truth behind the car, all the sounds for the car were used from a Pro AM Drift RX7, not the Hero Car, as the Hero car had a basically stock motor, while the one we hear has a Bridgeport(the famous rotary brap brap brap sound). The car only made 300rwhp because it was limited to Stock injectors(550cc primaries and 850cc secondaries) which are really only good for 300whp running at 100% duty cycle. It also did not have a functioning Nitrous system.

The car did have NOS and was at 400rwhp when it was built. It also had heavy wheels, stock oem engine, 2 10”, and 1 15” alpine subs, and 2 alpine amps. I built a lot on the car as well as finished the molds for the subs and NOS. We built 2 of them in 5 days. A blue one was built and sent to France for their show, and this for TAS. You can see some of the build photos in my tuning japan vid. It also has the yellow NSX that was in hans garage in the show, as well as the veilside 350z demo car with the first version 3 kit and supercharged. I have done a few projects with yokomaku San and other Japanese tuning shops back in the day.

another big mod this car has is its engine is bridgeported. you can tell by its lumpy and loud idle. its when you enlarge the stock intake port in the housings with a grinder to allow more air to be sucked in from the apex seal. and thats why it idles like that because thats the sound of each rotor making its exhaust stroke

Truth be told, I want to find an FD shell, get a 5 axis mill, learn how to be a machinist, and then try my hand at building a non-wankel rotary motor, based on Liquid Piston's DARPA prototype motor. I may not end up with an FD like I want, but no matter what I have plans on trying my hand at making one of those motors from scratch, possibly even from recycled metal smelted down in a home built, solar powered induction foundry. Hey, a man can dream, can't he?

I remember before the movie came out, there was a rumour that the RX-7 was originally going to be a yellow NSX with a wide body kit. I don't remember where I had heard that, but I do remember arguing with my brother about whether or not this car was an NSX until we got a computer lol. If I remember correctly, that rumoured NSX did end up appearing at the start of the movie.
