You don't have to have an American or English accent to be considered good at speaking English. Her vocabulary is large, and she didn't need to pause to formulate responses. I'd say that she speaks more proper English than all of us in the comment section. Just because she gained a Korean accent does not cancel out her fluency in her first language.

+Hello Lola It does't indicate level of education, but more how integrated someone is into the country's culture and interact with the people from that country. We have Koreans that came here (NZ) when they were very young but still have accents because they speak more Korean than they do English, and mainly socialize with one another. Of course not ALL of them are like that, but quite a noticeable percentage.
@MFLOVEify9 жыл бұрын
+AlCooper exactly. this is why even thought it might sound rude for me to say this, but I try to stay away from those kind of groups cause it really affects my English pronunciation and such. Don't get me wrong I still speak my native tongue(mandarin) and I definitely would communicate with anyone whose first language is not english. Just I have definitely noticed a significant difference.
@AlaCooper9 жыл бұрын
MFLOVEify In a way it's a waste, to move to a country but integrate very little of its language and culture into your own. So good on you for doing that. Immigrants from any country should integrate themselves into their new society to some extent.

Since she moved to Korea after college, I expected her to sound completely American. Tiffany and Jessica moved to Korea when they were pretty young, but they still sound straight up Californian. I guess it depends on how much you get to speak English
@frygile10 жыл бұрын
Dude they're young and they get interviewed probably everyday and maybe 3/4 of it is in another language, they know how to control their mouths when speaking another language because in Korea they don't use as much sounds and letters as us (in America) - meanwhile She's an actress who's acting in Korean which is probably why she isn't use to English (even though she went to school in America- It's hard perfectly pronouncing the words after getting use to Korean) . And i don't know how you can compare people like Tiffany and Jessica to her? They both sing and they explore in different languages- while practicing it. Not all celebrities have the time to do that- An actress' time is very busy and it's very different from idols and singers even though they may have some similarities.
@Zeighla10 жыл бұрын
MissInfinitySwag You must have missed the part where I said "I guess it depends on how much you get to speak English." And I stand by my surprise because she must have moved to Korea when she was already in her 20s. Usually at that age, people tend to retain their established speech patterns

I like how she still has a light Korean accent and her way of speaking clearly shows her Korean side. Some people choose to keep their accent to show the world a part of their culture, like Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Priyanka can speak English fluently in Quantico but she always speak with a hint of accent in all of her big interviews to empower her Indian root. I'm not saying the reason Han Ye Seul has accent is the same as Priyanka Chopra Jonas. I merely like when people speak English with a little bit of their accents.
