Yeah, I think Takei wanted to avoid unoriginality by making new shamanic concepts to play around with, so that Hana's journey is different from Yoh's. But he did say that his ideas weren't the best at the time of writing flowers, but in superstar he goes crazyy, does stuff we've never seen before, completely new concepts.

Same production values aside, I'm really liking Flowers so far. The benefit of adapting the sequel manga is that it can be paced better since it doesn't feel like they need to rush through stuff we already saw before.

Honestly the production is better. I'd say the amount of animation has doubled and every episode has been polished. Ep 10 unexpectedly being very very nice.
