And I will say, Japanese deathcore is top tier. Crystal lake, jiluka, dexcore, acme, and of course deviloof. I remember hearing them about a month after their original ruin ep came out and I’ve been hooked since

Great reaction! HANABIE. (pronounced "Ha-na-bi-e") is a harajukucore (metal, hardcore, harajuku fashion) band from Tokyo, Japan. They've been doing covers of Maximum the hormone when they played in high school. In 2018, they released an EP called "Cherry blossoms are blooming" and this January, they released their first full length album called "Girl's reform manifest". Yukina is the lead singer doing growls (and rapping in some songs). She write the lyrics. Matsuri is the guitarist and she's doing the clean vocals (and rapping). She's the music composer of the band and she also write lyrics. Hettsu is the bassist and she only does the vocal parts in "We Love Sweets". She recently switched for a 5 string bass. Sae is the drummer and she joined the band last year. Please check out their song "Reiwa Dating Apps Generation" next. It's a song taken from their full length album (like "The Love Sweets") and it was the first one featuring Sae in a music video. Thank you

Amazing band, thanks for checking them out! Their current other MV's in chronological order: Envy L.C.G Reiwa Dating Apps Generation All the MV's are amazing so pick whatever you fancy from them next! Envy being earlier the MTH influence is more apparent, L.C.G is pretty crazy and all over the place and Reiwa Dating Apps Generation is more slow chuggy grooves with fast rapping over the top. I'll also suggest taking a look at another Japanese band called Gacharic Spin. Either of their recent MV's is well worth checking out. One of those MV's is for their track "I Wish I" which is a real musical journey with amazingly intricate vocal arrangements, whilst the other MV for their track "MindSet" is like an extra funky Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Yes mash-up.

Hanabie are pure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 This is about the battle of cravings for sweet things and the marketing that justifies eating junk. In the end, it’s up to you if you cave in to temptation, that’’s why Yukina crushes the cake. Three vocalists, six changes, two minutes and thirty eight seconds of awesome - you should check out their album “Girl’s Reform Manifest” - it’s all equally good or better than ‘Sweets. They have two more MVs from this album, “L.C.G.” (Lollipop Candy Girls) and “Reiwa Matching Generation”.

First time hearing this band, pretty good, but cant help thinking they are kind of a spin off from the OG originators BABY METAL (the band that upsets so many pretentious up there own arse metal heads haha) "Karate" would prob be the best place to start with BABYMETAL

If you listen to the rest of their stuff it's pretty clear that their direction is completely different from babymetal. I would say that babymetal's music is more normal and fusing the genres together and they also focus more on the idol visual aspect. Hanabie seems to really amplify how much the styles clash together and instead of choreographed performances like those copying babymetal tend to do they play instruments.

“Ha-Na-Bi-Eh” (はなびえ) are Yukina (Vo.), Matsuri (Gu., Vo.), Hettsu (Ba.), Sae (Dr.). Reiwa Matching Generation is an amazing song, with a creative video. The real ear worm is their metal cover of the mind blowing pop song Odo (Dance) from 18yo vocalist ado. . I would translate the title of this song, Amai Mono Ga Tabetai, more accurately as (I/we) WANT TO EAT SWEET THINGS, emphasizing the DESIRE/CRAVING expressed therein. (My Japanese wife concurs.) Especially when Yukina sings, “tabetai, tabetai, moto tabetai!” (I want to eat, want to eat, want to eat MORE!”

Awesome! I have loved Hanabie since the moment I encountered them. Try Reiwa Matching Generation, Envy and then their cover of Ado - Odo. They don't have a video for it yet, but Sunrise Miso Soup is amazing. They formed in high school as a Maximum the Hormone cover band in their rock music club then went on to place second in a national music contest as the only high school band. Matsuri, the guitarist and composer met Gaku Taura, the drummer for Crystal Lake and he seems to have taken the band under his wing. I am sure I am butchering the details but that's the gist. The spirit of metal shines bright in Japan even though it doesn't seem to be any more commercially popular than it is here. All the more respect to the women and men who make it their passion.

The length gives it some impact though huh! FYI bands sometimes put the lyrics in the video description, they're not always translated but sometimes there's a lot of English anyway. My Japanese ain't great but I was curious about this one so I translated some bits, it's basically about sugar addiction and being someone who relies on that feelgood rush to lift their mood and be able to concentrate, but knowing that's a problem and struggling with it (one of the shouted lyrics during the breakdown is "thanks oligosaccharides!") During that low-key spoken word bit Yukina says "my drug: sugar addiction, mind comeback, changing vision" before her tone changes and she starts listing sweets. She's also the only one who doesn't eat any and destroys the cake at the end - there's a bit more depth than you might realise and I wish I could understand their lyrics more, but that's the price for getting to listen to cool stuff from around the world I guess!
