Hanami Dango is a popular Japanese dessert made from 3-coloured rice dumplings. You need only 2 ingredients to make it. This dango is super chewy and soft. I recommend to heat them up in a microwave for 10 seconds before eating to achieve extra chewiness!
Hanami Dango is especially enjoyed during the hanami, cherry blossom viewing. According to one of the theories, pink, white and green colours symbolize the process of sakura blooming. Each colour represents a certain stage: pink is like a bud, white is a flower and green is for leaves.

Hanami Dango
For each color (makes 8-10 balls):
☆ about 40 g hot water
☆ 2 tbsp sugar
☆ 60 g glutinous rice flour
★ 1 tsp matcha (for green color), red or pink food coloring

① Mix all ☆ ingredients for the white dough.
② Repeat for green and pink doughs, adding food colorings.
③ Divide each dough into 8-10 balls of the same size.
④ Put the balls in a pot with boiling water. Cook for 5 minutes until the balls float.
⑤ Place the balls in a bowl with cold water for several minutes and add on of each onto a skewer if you want.
